  1. Ok, so you have 1000 miles on the combo, how many rear tires have you burned up? Seriously, how does it run/drive/steer/scare the neighbors, etc.? And, where are those pics/videos?
  2. Very nice indeed! Please post smokey burnout pics when you get the Z running. Good luck.
  3. You might try removing the starter solenoid, then putting the starter into place, reattach solenoid and bolt up starter to engine. It sounds a lil' crazy, but sometimes works depending on application. Good luck.
  4. I HATE saabs as well, ugly, ugly, ugly!!!
  5. The cam should have some numbers stamped on the nose where the timing gear is.........check it out.
  6. You might want to pm Alf, a member here on hybridZ. He has swapped an SBC into a 300Z. Good luck!
  7. gasoline + matches, enough said!
  8. You might want to consider the LSX 5.3, can be had for alot cheaper than LS1 if you look around. Check your local salvage yards, 5.3's are fairly common. Some people think of them as a modern day 327, high rev turbo v8??? They come stock with 285 or so h.p. good luck
  9. DAAYYUUMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! That has got to be a most brutal ride!!!
  10. Well, I installed a a 4.3 v6 in an '72 Z using the jtr motor mounts. They bolted to the 4.3 just like they would for a 5.7 or any other SBC. The difference between this and a v8 install is that the distance between the firewall to rear of the v6 is 3.5" or 4", where a v8 would be an inch or less.
  11. it looks like a good canidate for a bonfire...........lol!
  12. I would love to see another pinks Z, although it must be admin controlled. I also agree that all the final decisions must be agreed upon by the admins with input/opinions of the members. In the past I suggested for the project to be built at dr_hunt's place. Doc knows his stuff, has experience, has a worthy Z shell, and most of the resources for a "budget" build. Anyway, just some ideas. I too watched the Pinks Z reruns last night, and despite the loss and all the crap that happened after the show, I wear my Team hybridZ pinks shirt with pride.
  13. I have used the JTR kit more than once and like it. However, I did move the engine/trans slightly forward via the slotted mount towers for trans dipstick clearance. On another note, I was helping a buddy swap a SBC into a trawling boat once, and his frount mount was a marine motor plate type mount that used the engine mount holes on the front of the block ala '57 Chevy. The frame attachment points had a biscuit type rubber mount for vibration. I think this could work with a few mods. He got it at a marine type salvage yard. He also said he saw various other types of mount systems that could work. Maybe check ebay for SBC marine type mounts.
  14. You gonna get that Z or? I'm just curious. Good luck.
  15. Are you taking orders for the meat? Let us know. It would be a good exscuse for me to drive down. Good luck on the hunt!

    283ForMyZ

There is nothing wrong with a nice 283. Sure, the 350's, 400's, etc., are better suited for more h.p., but maybe 283formyz isn't looking to run 9's either. Maybe he has a nice 283 already. An old buddy of mine had a 283 with mildly ported 462 camel hump heads, 1.94/1.60 valves, roller rockers, comp cams 292H magnum camshaft, eddy torker II intake, 1 5/8" headers, 650 Holley d.p. It was no prostock engine, but sounded wicked, and had a very nice top-end. To each his own.
  17. I almost bought that Z, but had no place to put it. You got it from a guy in Arvada right? It looks like a very nice project. You are so lucky to have a son interested in a project such as this, especially since it's a Z. I always wanted a father/son project, but my Dad is not much of a car guy and is very "mechanically challenged". I love him dearly though. Maybe when my 2 sons are old enough, we can do a Z together. Anyway, good luck on your project!
  18. Bill Mitchell over at http://www.theengineshop.com offers some nice shortblock assemblies using this block, and has some nice heads as well.
  19. Yeah, I have seen it before. I believe the guy is from Sweden. The Z sounds very nice.
  20. Slow is ok, because slow and steady wins the race! It's better to be slow and have it done right.
  21. Yeah, anyone can go and buy a new or turn key car. But, there is something to be said for building your own.
