  1. I just came here from that "other" thread. I feel much better now.
  2. Yes. Please don't ascribe black hoods to ricers. Black hoods were used on rally cars long before most ricers were born. Now raw cf... Buy cf and paint it flat black. Let them think you cheaped out untill you lift the hood and let them see the raw cf on the bottom side. I also think a 4" cowl is a little severe unless you absolutely need the clearance. I prefer the SubtleZ or the SS hood.
  3. Why is it you want to narrow the rear track? Is it to fit a wider tire? If that is so the limitations are not the track but the wheelhouse and the rear strut. The position of the hub and the tire can be adjusted with the wheel backspacing.
  4. Dang! Stevie G, ...the final word. Is there nothing in the Z world too obscure for this man???
  5. I have to agree. I test drove one of the LS1 GTO's that made it to Able Chevrolet here in Rio when they first came out. What a kick, and a real sleeper. I must have spent an hour and a half doing mental gymnastics trying to justify why I needed to buy one and how I was going to pay for it. I gave up before I got to the "explaining it to the wife" exercize. Cest la vie nouveau GTO.
  6. Thanks guys, My new sender arrived today. I got 19 mpg on my first tank buzzing around town. That was before the tune-up. It's fun having a rag top again. This nice NorCal weather we have been having is just perfect for dropping the top. Timing belt! arg. '84 NA, doesn't this thing have one cam in the block with gears or a chain driving it?
  7. Here you go: http://www.zonc.org/travis06.html
  8. Amazing how many things can go wrong with a thirty four year old car, eh? Keep at it and get it running for the Travis meet next month. Hope to see you there.
  9. Your right it is shorter. I always thought it would be longer. I just measured the two, S30's. The 2+2 is about 2" shorter.
  10. Now that's good first hand info Terry. Have you got a bigger shot of the two halves?
  11. Did you see DavyZ said, "...I'd offer you a ride, but the project is still underway... Call me in another year or so...". Yeah RIGHT! That was May of 2001. A year or so! :lmao:
  12. Thanks Sparks. Did a search on Z31.com. From what I read there it is a very common problem and the culprit most times is the sending unit. New from Courtesy Nissan: Fuel Tank Gauge Assembly For Analog Gauges - 1984 - 1988 300ZX Code:25060-Z31AN Price: $82.66 19 1/2 gallons? Dang, or arg! I hope it's the sender and not the mileage.
  13. I just bought a '84 that sat for a while and has the same problem. The day it arrived the gauge read "E". Filled it up with only six gallons but the needle only went to half. Drove it around a little and after a couple of days it slowly went up to full. Put 100 miles on it yesterday and it's back down to half. Either I'm geting terrible fuel mileage or the problem has not remedied itself (or these Z31 have tiny tanks). Anybody know how much gas fits in the tank?
  14. The eye lashes are still there! Take a look at the close-up of the headlights. Oh baby that's sweet! I think I still like the original better though.
  15. We're back to the "New Posts" only again, eh? I enjoyed all the other new post options too. Are they coming back Dan?
  16. HA! I have that motor in my service van, 1966 Ford/Grumman step van. Lots of low rpm torque, yes, but no power. Tall, heavy, long. Not my first through fiftieth choice for a swap into a S30. But hey, JMHO.
  17. Yes, that's what a motor is. It converts electric energy into kinetic (motion) energy and some heat. Or the same hardware can be a generator and convert kinetic energy into electric energy and some heat. Yes, that's what Toyota is doing.
  18. Do you mean "loss"? If so, that's not true. In fact it contradicts what you quoted. Most of what we think is loss is really converted into heat.
  19. The JTR rad is a version of the narrow f-body rad, hard to find in JY's anymore. I got my first one out of a V6 Chevy full size van. The next one we bought from JTR. The JTR rad is a new, quality, time tested piece and works excellent with the Taurus fan to cool any V8 in an S30. It is also quite reasonably priced.
  20. Wow! Really nice. Now I know what to do when I get bored with my rims:2thumbs:
  21. Not at all. If you love tuning, and your altimate goal is a lower E.T. then stick with a carb. Don Manzo's E.T. actually went up (slightly) when he swapped out his carb for the Stealth Ram. Mt point being that things we would never notice, like changes in air density, can make a big difference in power. EFI measures air dencity, air/fuel ratio (O2), air temp, engine temp, and throttle position every second and adjusts the fuel flow rate and timing accordingly. Carbs can't do that. But EFI has the same limitations as carbs when it comes to the hardware on and in the block. EFI is not going to compensate for a poor choice of headers or a cam. And, IMHO, I don't think anybody designs an EFI system to go drag racing. That is not where the strengths of EFI show up. Therefore, I'm not surprised that a carb beats EFI in the quarter mile, or the dyno. But if I ever drove my car anywhere else... Well, you know what my choice would be.
