  1. Yeah, it's had the 2nd gear thing, he upgraded the trans, john shepard did it, not sure what all he did to it, has some funky gear oil that resembes honey only it's pink colored and smells funny. Some concoction that shepard dreamed up. I think stock they can push about 24psi on the 16g turbo. Pretty quick, about high 12's here. A few bolt on's and it'll do 12.0's here. I think this one will be a low 11 car maybe a high 10. Dayumed quick out of the hole with the AWD. What great Colorado or any snow area car though. This motor is sans the balance shafts (rebalanced 2.1L Dodge D50 crank) has eagle rods, ported head, bigger ferrea valves, custom ground Comp cams, titanium retainers, crower springs, JE pistons, aem, GT35R, custom exhaust manifold, bigger injectors, turbo timer, FMIC, mondo external wastegate, greddy BOV. All that and no stickers! I think it'd be faster with stickers though, alot faster.
  2. I like dependable, I'm with you on that. Went for a ride in the DSM today. It's amazing how much more TQ the 2.1L has over the 2. I would have figured the ported head and big cams to have softened the bottom end, but it actually is a beast compared to what it was, although I have a feeling the other engine builder may have had the cam timing all screwed up which may be the big reason for the increase. Moby, I can see why you like that car. This one has nitto DR's on all 4 corners, 245/60/15's, handles like a dream. If you ever do that engine, try the 2.1L stroker crank The AWD function is flawless and the thing jumps out of the hole. Shepard built this trans with some upgrades, I'm not sure what all he did to it, but it was expensive. As soon as this car is tuned and painted, it will be for sale. He's looking to get 10K for it and he has over 4K in upgrades as of this last build. If he sells it he wants a 427 stroker LS2 in a GTO.
  3. J. I saw your car at SEZ 6 and I met you. For those of you that haven't seen the car, it is truly a nice piece of work. Nice to see you getting it where it's really, really fast.
  4. So is the MS that sensitive to EMI/RFI? I've been reading alot of threads lately about how sensitive it is.
  5. Doesn't have leather, but has A/C, cruise, tilt, PW, PB, and alpine stereo though. Oh, no back seat, the roll cage had to tie into a cross memeber back there so it was ditched.
  6. If I added up the receipts, I could probably put a dent in the national debt. For the Monte alone over the last 13 years or so, which doesn't count the original 305, the 350, and the three 400sbc's that I have run in the car or the th400 I took out. When I bought the car it had 16K original miles on it. Now it has 212,000 350 long block $4000 Parts I had GB turbo kit $3700 C&S carb $1150 SS exhaust $1000 Converter $700 PG trans $1000 Incidentals $600 MSD 6BTM $400 2 step $100 Paint $6000 Car $6000 Wheels $1000 Moser 9 inch $2400 Driveline $300 Roll Cage $700 Interior $1000 Alum Rad $350 Fuel system $800 So, thats about $31K! So quit your whining, cause we see the pearly whites shining in the background! And yes it'll spank the new GTO as well, along with about any other production car.
  7. Thanks, some of the odd things I've done, Buick straight 8, Model T ford (yes, I poured the babbot bearings too), Buick nailhead V8, but they are all kind of neat in their own way. That little DSM motor is pretty trick. The cylinder head is to die for in comparison to others I've seen. Massive ports, generous valve sizes, dual over head cams, hemi head design. I installed larger valves and ported the area underneath the valve to match, then port matched the head to both the intake and custom exhaust manifold. The only thing I don't like is the oil pump arrangement. Has low psi at idle, like 12.5psi. Goes up to 55psi at any rpm, but at idle it's real low. John shepard uses a dry sump, but for this car that was totally out of the budget. It has taken 4 months to get this thing built from beginning to end, but the more tricks you do to an engine the longer it takes to assemble it correctly. Example is you can build a stock 350 in two days easily, whereas a 434 may take a month or more. Well, maybe I'm just slow.
  8. rings won't re-seat themselves. It's time for a rebuild.
  9. The other thing you can do is change motors on a good machine to a single phase motor if the frame is correct. Here we have a electric motor rebuild place called Telco. They can actually convert a three phase motor to single phase. But everything is $$$. I like the accura one better BTW.
  10. He came back tonight with a stumble and occassional miss. Turns out the 2/3 coil pack wasn't firing. Seems the f'n knotheads that worked on it before broke two of the weathertight plugs and they kind of rigged it. Well, it unrigged. One plug to the coil packs and one plug to the transistors that control the coils. So now it's off to alb. to the pick and pull to cut two plugs off and then solder it in place of the old ones. And to think these tuner guys in Alb are supposed to be the best! Morons, you can do that to your own car but you don't do things like that to customer cars! Stock turbo will go to about 24lb., he's turning this one to 35lb boost. Sounds neat, feels good under power, should be interesting.
  11. Yeah, it's all this little $300 here and $300 there, and $1100 carbs that are kicking me in the butt right now. I've got a regular big lens now, but the autodarkening is indispensable really.
  12. I've built all kinds of engines over the years. Yeah, pretty quick little cars, I'm amazed. Last time I saw it run, stock block, head, cam, it ran 12.0 at like 120. We'll see what it does now. It's for sale so I don't think he'll pound on it at all. He wants a GTO, then I can get my hands dirty on the new stuff as he wants a stroker 427.
  13. That's the one I've been looking at, about $240. I've considered the HF ones but one or two sensors somehow always gives me a flash somehow cause the sensor is blocked by my arm or something else. That's the reason I want a 4 sensor helmet. Mig might be alittle quicker, but once you get your heat right and master it, you'll zip along pretty quick.
  14. this thread is over a year old guys.
  15. My buddy tony, he's 23, has an eagle talon AWD. He took it to get it tuned after modding it and they blew a head gasket twice, fixed it twice then burned a piston. So, I went and got it in Alb with my trailer and brought it back where another buddy of his built him a motor which lasted 500 miles. I'd detail what he screwed up, but it was too much to list here. Ended up having to get a new head, balance it, align hone the block, deck it, yada, yada. So, I built him one. It's got a 2.1L stroker crank, Eagle rods, JE pistons, custom ported his head, custom ground comp cams, gt35r, FMIC, manual boost controller. All in all a really nice little motor and I mean little. Who would have thought that a 2.1L is a stroker? His car has been in my shop for 4 months or more. It's just nice to get another project done. I hope it runs good enough for him, he wants to sell it and get a new GTO.
  16. Mine has 2 sensors, which was kind of a pain in tight spots, sometimes it wouldn't darken, making me blind for a few. So the new one I want is one of the higher end models that has 4 sensors.
  17. Been practicing with the tig, really, really like that unit. Been welding my stainless downpipes and v-bands, coming out perfect. Welding along and my helmet quit darkening, kind of switches back and forth, really hard on the eyes, changed batteries, no avail. What I have now is a snap on with 2 sensors that came with my welder. What should I buy?
  18. The little motor that could breathed it's first life today. No leaks, no runs, no errors, set the timing and it's out the door for some road time before heading to albuquerque for tuning on the dyno. Neat little car, nice motor.
  19. I don't know about anyone else, but I wanna play with your gaming computer!
  20. Or you could just stake it in there with a chisel or punch, might not take much to make em stick.
