  1. Considering the detroit 2 stroke diesel engines work well, I son't see anything that makes it so that it won't work. Detroits have a large round expansion chamber and open exhaust and are blown and turbo'd. Ditch the reed valve setup as it's no longer needed. Would be interesting to see how it worked.
  2. I don't know, but I'll get wheels one way or the other.
  3. Well, I have to redo the ladder bars, that'll take a good day or two. I have to custom order wheels since the bolt pattern is 5 on 4.25 which is a cheapo mustang pattern, you know the ones that came with the 4 bangers. Not going to tub it, it'll all fit inside the wheel well as is with alittle clean up work. I'll detail with pic's. Should be nice looking and work better if I can lower the whole car about 2 or 3 inches. Can you say PAVEMENT SCRAPER.
  4. I can't believe it, so you shouldn't either!! My sister backed into a pole today, bashed in the rear door on her Isuzu trooper. So, took it and her to the body shop where the z is, to get it fixed. DAYUUUUMMMMM!!!! What do I see???? Somebody has actually been working on the z!!! I can't believe it!! The other headlight is boxed in now, light skim of bondo on the roof and the RR quarter panel for previous hail damage. Looking good! The tail lights are going bye, bye, dont' need them, just a single brake light in the back hatch is sufficient. Shaving all the markers holes and cutting the rear wheel wells alittle for some more clearance. I have to get over there and get the z, to mod the ladder bars before he gets too far. Anyway, it's actually getting worked on. I'll take pics this weekend and post them up!!!
  5. I'll bet that's a healthy 4.3L!
  6. Why would you want to spin it past 6K anyway? You break things at high rpm's! His graph shows the HP and TQ dropping after 6K. Time to shift baby! Nice engine, great results, enjoy!
  7. I took two original motor mount brackets, cut them so all I had was a flat plate, bolted them on tihe engine, stuffed engine and trans in the car where I wanted it with a jack supporting the trans. Got the driveline aligned correctly. Took 1-5/8" tubing cut to fit between the stock z mount and the center of the chevy plate on the block. Slightly angled back, so two angle cuts and alittle grinding, no biggie, tack welded in place, fab'd a trans crossmember same way with a 1/4" steel angle iron 4"x4", cut it so it has a small lip facing down tapered to nothing on each end, pulled engine and trans, welded engine mounts,, bolted trans crossmember in, voila! Done, cost about $5 in materials.
  8. Too late, already gone! Nope, that setup would have put me in a higher "blower" class, which, trust me on this, you don't want to be in unless your making 1500HP with a blown alky BBC. Sooooooooooooooo, I have a 4 bolt BBC, 427 steel crank, and Brodix BB2 heads. My plan is to build a 427 with as much compression as I can muster, good rods, around an .800 lift roller with 280/290 duration at .050, and spin it 8000 rpm as it's all about tire speed. The block is already .060, so I'll probably have to go .070 or maybe even .100 over which is doable. This is a throw away combination anyway that will maybe run 6 times a year, maybe 8 for 2 passes each through a 100 to 200 foot pit, which hopefully is in the 3 second time area. I've been running 1-2-3 gears in the low side of the T-case which is about 74mph top tire speed. 1st gear in high is alittle higher speed than that and second in the high side would be like WOWSA! I've tried first on the high side several times, but the 350 won't rev out and hit the rev limiter. Just doesn't have the power to do it. If you can get it rev'd out, it'll stay there, just doesn't have the brute like a 406 would or a BBC. It's all bout stroke and bore baby! My other thought was to build a 414 for the z and put the 406 out of the z into the '33. But the 406 still hasn't been worked out on tune yet, I think it has some more potential there. It needs bigger tube headers and with the new tig that will be a reality out of stainless. But a 414 would pick it up about 40 or 50hp which would put the z around a 10 flat here and around a 9 flat at sea level. It's just that the car NEEDS front end badly and to redo the ladder bars in the back to get alittle more tire, 10 inch slick, inside the wheel wells and lower the back ride height, limit the front travel and I think it should run 9.30's on what it has now, so more motor isn't always the solution to going quicker. I think the best money spent on the z right now is front end and rear end mods, lower the ride height and make it safe for my boy who will be driving it in a few short years. The goal is to keep everyone in one piece and have fun. Oh, and no I won't turn him loose with the 406 under the hood right away. He can start out with a mild motor first and work his way up. Besides I may have the little 357 sold, a guy wants to drive the '33 first to see. He's building a '63 ford Falcon with a SBC and a 4 speed muncie M21. He says built ford tough with chevy stuff. If he buys the 357 motor I'll take video of that trans going into pieces with the first drop of the clutch!!!
  9. The fact that a block is out of a vette means nothing. Example, I don't have a vette block and I run 9's. Stock production 350 "379" 4 bolt later model block went 10's. Either the 350 or the 383 would be fine. I like the 400 based combinations, unshrouds the valves better and makes more power, but they aren't laying around anymore like they used to be. Like they said; It's heads and cam, heads and cam, heads and cam, heads and cam. Oh, and did I mention heads and cam?...........
  10. That track is right off I-10 isn't it? Runs parallel with the interstate, drool. I've been by that place alot of times, never been. Awesome best time!
  11. That's what I wanted to do, but I dont' think the z needs that much HP to go fast. That setup is capable of 1500HP but he was only running about 1200! Only!!!, that is, he says his z weighed 2500lb in race trim. Price is cheap, somebody buy it before Cozy Z Cole does.
  12. I sent the guy an email and he sent one back, he ran it only twice in the z like it sits on 20psi boost. Ran 7.50's both times in the 1/4 mile!!!!
  13. I never bought the book, I just made my own mounts for the engine and trans, but I'm pretty sure the book does detail how they are made. I just made mine differently, they work, I can get the engine in and out easily, clears headers, so whatever works.
  14. The 308 holden will IMO not be the powerhouse the 350 will given the same add ons. I'd go with the 350 since the mounts I believe are the same!
  15. For those of you with a chevy V8 wanting to go excessively fast with turbocharged blow through alcohol, here you go! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TWIN-76mm-TURBO-setup-for-sbc-COMPLETE-chevy-mustang_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQihZ012QQitemZ220033356520QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Looks like it fits a z but as far as radiator goes, well, it'll have to be mounted elsewhere. I wonder if he ever got it going in the z and if he did was it too much for it to handle?
  16. You have nice heads, the cam isn't that big and what is the compression? If you really want to be fast, it isn't going to be that streetable, you just have to have your priorities. I'm going to guess that if that's a 350, your around 400ish FWHP and about 300rwhp.
  17. All I want to know is who won!
  18. If I were you, I'd sell that to me, and go find you another toy!
  19. I say it's time to beef up the powerplant because that simply won't do! Go shopping!!!!
  20. Well, I went to one of those places and they had some people doing that tandem jumping. The wifey bought this guy some jumps, several tandem and then on his own. It was his first on his own, we watched. He jumped out the chute came out never caught air and he died on impact. That pretty much did it for me. I'll stick to flying in them and generally being on the ground.
  21. Same here, except no more car period, they impound it, take you to court to confiscate it. You get whatever they sell it for, which isn't much.
  22. With all the money you will be saving you need your z to have an engine like this! You too can have BLING and SPEED!!!!
