  1. 210* isn't hot, if the water is staying in the rad, your fine, even though you might want it cooler. Buy a higher pressure cap, 24lb, 27lb, whatever, it'll keep the water in till 240 or 250. In circle track racing we used to see 230 to 235 all the time! Basics to cooling; 1. adequate air flow, low speeds <35 fan predominates, >35 outside air flow through rad predominates. 2. Good rad, preferrably aluminum aftermarket IMO. 3. proper water flow, you can have too much or too little, both of which cause overheating. Water actually transfers heat better than antifreeze. If you in hot climate decrease antifreeze mix to protect for your lowest temp.
  2. Hanns, didn't you block off the power valve. I'm having trouble right now with that. No vacuum, like 4 inches at idle, runs pig rich, fouls the plugs. Waiting for a powervalve plug and some new spark plugs. Starter took a dump too, Autozone lifetime warranty, it'll be in tomorrow, but I have to work the rest of the week. Practicing with the new TIG, love that, and finishing up all the little odds and ends.
  3. Muhahahaha, your on the top of my list MIKE............ cause you see that yellow bar under my name, that means I donated to keep this site going. I don't see one under your name yet. :
  4. :biggrin:Well, our quota of former zcar.com members is already full. Somebody will have to die before you can post in the technical section. Just kidding, welcome!
  5. Mike, it'll never go that far. One of the things that tips ebay off is really high bids. This auction is obviously a fraud, I had my account hijacked and probably by this same dude, doing the same thing. We've seen that here on hybridz before and we generally have fun and bid it up in the millions of dollars while reporting the seller to ebay. All in fun. Oh, and my life does not revolve around ebay, I could care less about negative feedback, especially from this schmuck.
  6. Guys, bid that thing up into the big $$$ I just bid $2000, see if you can outbid me. Ha ha! I emailed the seller to try to get on the pre-approved list and I also asked for the vin and the location so I could send someone to look at the car. HAPPY BIDDING!
  7. Too late I bought it, hand it over!
  8. A buddy of mine did take a video on his camera, as soon as we find out how to upload that I will. The flames out the turbo manifold were truly awesome since it was at night. Today I'm putting the turbo's back on and I have an oil leak on one of the drainback tubes, other than that is should be ready to go here pretty quick. I ended up buying a new MSD box and the other one came back yesterday, so now I have two good boxes. I had issues with the edelbrock scorpion intake leaking water at the left front corner of the intake and it wasn't sealing around the ports of the AFR 227 heads, so I ended up buying a used victor jr and performing all the modifications to it and slapped it on last night late. It's amazing, with the new intake and msd box it fired instantly and ran like a top. Carb is way rich right now, so I may pull the front bowl and drop the jets until I get the wideband hooked up. It sounds like the '33 dodge motor. Ahh, the cackle of a roller cam!
  9. With the turbo's off, so I can set the valves hot. Then tomorrow it's all together with turbo's and possibly a drive. Sounds meaner than HE double toothpicks.
  10. I worked at white sands missile range for a few years and got to see alot of testing of simulated Thermo nuclear explosions (Minor scale, Major Scale), and testing on EMP. The problem is that they could never simulate EMP cause it wiped out the test equipment. I was wondering how you would test it and what with, simply from the standpoint that how would you know if your work was futile or worthwhile. Seems it would be rather expensive to find out it didn't work.
  11. Just goes to show you that my saying is true. "Life is great until you get out of high school (unless you go to college), then it goes straight to hell in a handbasket! Enjoy the "free" life while you can. My folks bought my sister a car, which she promptly totalled, then they bought her another one, which she did the same. By the time I got old enough to drive, I had to buy my own. Same for college, had to pay for that myselft too since she went 5 years and never graduated. Life isn't fair, since if it's fair for you it's not fair for someone else, it was once back in the day of adam and eve. 50% of the time it was fair for adam, 50% for eve. Now that there are 8 billion + people in the world if you blink you just missed your time for life to be fair to you. There's an old saying also, which is what you violated, called "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" What that means is that you can tell a horses age by looking at his teeth. Don't do that, just be thankfull that you got one! But all these words of wisdom won't ring true for you unless you have the intestinal fortitude to suck it up and listen, understand and heed. That's hard to do sometimes, as it's hard to be "wrong" these days in your thinking. I have that problem, I think everyone hates to be wrong, but we are alot of the time even when we don't want to be. It's embarrasing, but get over it. The important part is to "Think". Think about everything from how people feel, how they think, what they are thinking and why, what you should do, what implications or ramifications it has and why, the more you think about something the better off you'll be and the happier you'll be in life. Let dad fix the car, pay it off in time, it's the cheapest loan your ever going to get. Be glad he's here to help you and "think" about what you would be doing if he wasn't here, like he died or something. Then where would you be? My dad died in '02 and I sure wish he was here now! He wasn't perfect, much like your dad, but he was trying to teach me something called "Stand on your own two feet BOY!" I think your dad is trying to do the same, he may not be perfect but at least he's there for you, I know alot of dads that aren't!
  12. as far as bottoming out, it shouldn't matter which way the spring is oriented, the spring can compress only so much. I've always installed them with the closer coils to the top for the unsprung weight, but if your bottoming out, sounds like you don't have enough spring rate, free height or both.
  13. I would be thinking about finding a living woman to have, and some beer to toast the end of the world. But that's just me I guess.
  14. Jap Tin is correct, I get much bigger wheelies when I leave from an idle. Hits harder, that is for sure. RPM it flashes too? I don't have a clue, I can't be watching the tach when I can't see the track.
  15. Damn that sucks! Bet the wife will be happy, you won't be talking for awhile! Get better would you, and quit doing crapola like that.
  16. I think the problem with emp is that if it's strong enough, nothing will protect you except distance.
  17. IMO your going to have to go 4l80e with a blown sbc if you have any hope of making it live and keeping the overdrive feature. Sans that, why in the world are you running 4.11 gears with a blown car anyway. 3.39 would be much better and would lower your cruise rpm by about 750rpm or so.
  18. IME you will notice a generally higher rpm to move the car under part throttle. With my converters, 4K and 4.5K about 2000 rpm generally under part throttle conditions as opposed to stock 1200 or so in the 3800lb monte and the z. The z maybe 1700 rpm or so. About half throttle bursts will stall mine about 2800 to 3000 but then your already moving faster than about anything on the road as it is and can wax almost any car at that throttle. Exhaust noise is louder than most modified vehicles at that level in my cars so that's about my limit on the street. I only ever see max stall at WOT from a dead stop or on the trans brake. In the z the PG is a very easy to drive trans on the street. The z is soo light that it's relly not a hassle at all and pleasant to drive unless you like shifting gears. In the z I can take off in high gear and run a 10.80 instead of a 10.40 here at altitude, so that ought to tell you something. Well, something besides me forgetting to put it in low after the burnout!
  19. I tried one of those, ballooned it with my 406, no transbrake, just too much HP! If you really want to go fast get a custom converter from one of the good guys, coan or art carr!
  20. I pitched in. My old donation didn't expire until next year, but dan you gotta promise not to buy the cheap beer anymore. Only the best will do for you buddy!
  21. That guy finally shut up and quit. LMAO!
  22. A standard 2 stroke uses the piston travel downward to force the air/fuel/oil mix up the transfer ports into the cylinder. I have and have built several detroit diesel engines, marvelous design IMO. The detroit 2 strokes had up to 4 exhaust valves ala 71 series, and 92 series, I converted my 6-71 from a 2 valve to a 4 valve head. The airbox on these detroits is separate from the crankcase. The turbo was a power adder and the engine kits for a turbo and non turbo are different. Lower compression for the turbo. The expansion chamber is just a round pipe about 12 inches in diameter that runs the length of the motor. I would think that a standard 2 stroke with the crankcase seals maybe doubled would be able to handle moderate boost like aroud 7 psi fine. V8's have the intake and exhaust open at the same time as well, its called valve overlap. They turbocharge fine, but since you can optimize valve timing they can and will work bettter. That's not to say that the two stroke won't work though even with the intake and exhaust ports open at the same time IMO. I always had dreams of a blown 2 stroke v8 like the detroit design 92 series with 2 exhaust valves, but running on gas.
  23. That's pretty good, looks like that will break it into the 10's if you get a full run in.
  24. Those welds look like they've been ground, is that so?
  25. Nope, just something that will work. I have centerline lookalikes right now. Need a 15x8.
