  1. The pieces seem to be bent very nicely. As a welder once said, what makes a good fitter is the one that has to weld it in the end. Fitment and having a clean freshly ground surfaces are the key. Grinding the 1/4 inch from the joint back down the tubes is like having extra amps on the machine, makes alot better weld IMO. Using a scotchbrite in a die grinder works pretty good for me anyway. Until I got my bender figured out I ended up throwing away alot of bent pipe, but it was still cheaper than buying a cage for the z. When I do the next one I have changes in mind that I will incorporate. It's amazing how much thought has to go into one of those. I think yours looks very nice.
  2. I'd love the hear the story behind that one!
  3. Looks pretty nice. You might want to tell whoever's welding to turn the wire feed speed down a little, you won't end up with that raised weld and you'll get better penetration.
  4. 323,000 on the '99 dodge diesel, 222,879 on the '97 dodge diesel and a whopping 15,081 on the '04 dodge diesel.
  5. Well, the lead z might make high 8's, but all I can say is "Move over, I'm coming!"
  6. only if you look at it from the bottom.
  7. HOLY CRAP, BATMAN, I looked at some of those guns and some are over $2K! The self contained units are over $3K almost 4K! What's a good one to get for a novice and how much $$$?
  8. Nope, your all missing the boat. I've got a '97 Dodge regular cab 2500, with a 5 speed and cummins diesel. I get 25mph town and 29 highway. Pulls the house, shop and any car as well. I got it at the auction for $2700
  9. And here I thought ol' Rube Goldberg was dead. Nope, he's making new inventions again and he's in his early 100's.
  10. I'll take pic's with the 39.5's that I have which are on nice weld aluminum wheels. I think I"m going to paint the frame black, I don't know if I'll paint the rest of it or not. Finished rebuilding the front axle u joints today and packed the bearings. Weld the diff tomorrow. I found out today that my wilwood master cylinder won't be here until tuesday next week, so it'll be a week before I get it going. Race on the 24th here in town, so that'll be it's maiden voyage.
  11. theoretically, you can do the math and use the valve event timing. It's half the duration on the intake side for the intake centerline, do the same for the exhaust. You want the difference in degrees between the two for the lobe separation. Or you can put the valve timing events in DD and it'll do it for you.
  12. looks like a nice little hole in his forehead. Lights out!
  13. Oh, I just assumed hypers, sorry. Let us know how it runs.

  15. I checked a KB catalog online and I don't see a KB762 listed, they have a 194, 195, 350. The 350 is a 18 cc dished, the 194 is a 7cc single valve relief trough, and the 195 is a 3.25 cc dome. Compression with your heads should be around 10.5, 11.5 and 13.2 respectively. The last one is too high for a street motor IMO and the second one is marginal. With that cam you should be fine and it should run like a raped ape from the san francisco zoo. I'm sure with a zero deck your quench is fine which is good and will help stop detonation with the compression your running.
  16. In grad school we did air modeling on the chernobyl (sic) site following the nuclear meltdown. For 800 miles downwind there is nothing growing at the time. We did bay water modeling because on the north coast there is a bay where nothing lives for 500 miles out to sea. The whole sea floor is covered in waste, both chemical drums, paints, spent nuclear fuel rods, garbage, old cars, trucks heavy equipment, scrap military vehicles, etc. You'd have to see the minisub video to believe what they've done. The fisherman along the coast have to travel more than 500 miles to catch anything. There are also chemical plants where the vegetation is void for 100's of miles downwind. I can't imagine any worse environmental disasters than what I've seen in the photos. But I've heard about these palaces, where the csars lived that are just unbelievable to see, the architecture is stunning. I'd like to see the real russia and of course the tourist stuff.
  17. Post a link of that weasel getting bombed. It was just a matter of time before they caught up with him and it will be for the rest of them.
  18. Was that picture taken in the parking lot of the Motel at SEZ?
  19. I think that all the people are in agreement, that would be an issue if you had ordered a cam with 44 degrees of overlap. Keep us informed.
  20. I haven't seen anyone build a truck from scratch like this one. Here at least I'm a pioneer and noted for carrying a big lunch box! I have watched this sport for several years and built several engines here for the sport. Lately there have been some out of towners' date=' namely the owner of the Cyborg monster truck and Tough Enough monster truck, Jack, come whip up on the locals with a Datsun truck with a 472 inch BBC and a 250 shot of NOS. I built this to hopefully give him a whoopin' with a little ol' 350 chevy. Catch this, it weighs around 1800lb whereas most weigh 3000lb or more. No, that is some 3/4-inch plate that I cut the lower pitman arm out of. It was a total pain in the a$$ to drill and bevel the three holes where it mounts to the front spindle and the ball joint for the steering tie rod. It took me all day to cut, bend and get the holes beveled by hand using a torch, drill press and a die grinder with carbide bits. Oh, and you notice there's two cut out, that's cause the first one ended up being too long. I used a 2wd chevy steering box and they have less travel lock to lock, so I had to make another one that was shorter. So, I have an extra that is longer.
  21. Well, it took about a year to accumulate all the parts and about 3 months of weekends and most of this week, but I can say it's about finished. Left to do is hook up the trans cooler, electrical wiring, install dizzy, change plugs, fab throttle, install floor plates in cab, replace knuckle ujoints and weld front diff, and bolt the bed on. Add fluids, tires and wheels and we're gone. Here's a shot of the fuel cell, pump and battery location. We stole the fuel system out of the Monte, since it's going TT it needs the new one I bought that's sitting in boxes. The front driveline ended up being 2 piece since it was 68 1/2 inches center of ujoint cup to ujoint cup. That's ok cause the rear was super short. We fabbed our own drivelines, hope they hold up. Looking forward to that alcohol smell again even if it is in the mud. They are starting sand drags in El Paso too, so we'll venture down there for that too! Yes sir, that's an alcohol buring 357 cubic inch SBC dart block, AFR headed, roller cammed, potential pinks 2 motor sitting right there, dyno'd at 630HP on alky, 580HP on gas. All that in an 1800lb 4 wheel drive dodge truck, gee what fun this is going to be!
  22. Rad, trans cooler, a few odds and ends.
