  1. With high energy ignitions "they say" it's possible for a wire to arc to another wire and cause the wrong cylinder to fire. And spark blowout is when there's too much cylinder pressure for the spark to jump the gap on the spark plug. So you tighten the gap a little. I had it on my L28et. At 15psi it would start missing. I closed the gap to .025" and cured it.
  2. Could be cross firing. I'm not sure about na applications but I'm also wondering if spark blowout is possible with such high compression.
  3. I installed coil over sleeves without sectioning the strut tube. I use 12" 80lb springs. I still had to use .500" wheel spacers to get the front down to stock ride height. I would have used 10" springs but they only went down to 100lb.
  4. The ford 2.9L v6 (ranger, bronco2) stem seal is what most people use.
  5. I've seen a 4 cyl ranger engine in a z. But not vice versa.
  6. Yes but buying the most expensive cam doesn't always yield the best results. Get the right cam for your application. Not the right cam for someone else. Talk to Ron at isky. He can recommend a good cam. He will tell you that his $360 new cams aren't as good as his $140 regrinds. Racer brown is another old school datsun cam you should research.
  7. Ok cool it's.540. I think the duration at .050 is 236. I always like going straight to the source when possible. It saves money. And Ron will tell you what you really need. He doesn't push his product. I called him and told him that I needed a new cam. After talking with him a while he felt that I had a valve spring problem. At no point did he try to sell me springs. He just gave me spring specs that would cure my problem.
  8. Isky has a .535" regrind for $140. It would probably do great in most L6s. Why pay almost tripple the price?
  9. Ms2 is what I've been using since 2011. You can do everything but sequential with it. I'll soon upgrade to ms3x because I'm adding a bunch of outputs. I mainly want it dir the drag staging feature. You can always upgrade your ms2 to ms3 or ms3x later by replacing the processor.
  10. I know in drag racing guys say their car ran "a 40" when the first number is already known.
  11. Its not too bad. I use my car for drag racing so when I'm in the staging lanes I use the ebrake instead. My alternator is only 80 amps. Plus I'm using a ati damper with a ridiculous underdrive pulley and a 17" electric fan. Keeping up with demand is tough. I need more alternator.
  12. The vacuum pump is something I found on eBay. It was a new Ford part. I don't know what it actually fits. I have the pump wired to a relay which is triggered by the brake switch so it only runs while pressing the brake pedal. Since the booster is sealed it always holds a vacuum so no worries about an initial hard pedal. Works great.
  13. Mine has two. One to the bov and another to the map sensor with a T to the fuel pressure regulator. Brake vacuum is done with an electric vacuum pump. Wastegate is connected to the compressor housing. I just drilled and tapped into the thicker areas of the plenum. Do you have a picture of yours?
  14. I also agree on a larger turbine air ratio for the street. The more gradual acceleration is nice for traction purposes and pulls hard on the highway. Horrible for drag racing though.
  15. I cut apart an intake and began porting. It wasn't worth the effort in my opinion. Instead I built a custom intake. It was well worth the effort. It runs great, more powerful, and looks cool. I would either keep the stock intake or build a custom one. I only had about $300 in aluminum and a friend welded it for free. A shop had quoted me $600 for welding.
  16. Check the compressor maps and see what will work.
  17. I drove a nova with a 396. It was so slow. The engine is so heavy and the displacement is small for a big block so the torque isn't really available. Sure power improvements can be done but you still have all that extra weight.
  18. Tbi heads dont flow well so a stock cam would be good. I ran a summit 1102 and 1103 cam that worked well. A single 2.5" or dual 2" exhaust would be adequate.
  19. Yes it's possible. If its 4x4 you'll need a 4x4 transmission. The 700r4 is longer so driveshaft length and crossmember may change. Also will need the linkage for the tv cable and it will need to be properly adjusted.
  20. Ive been using the itm dished pistons with the rings that came with them since 2010 running 15 psi boost for the first 5 years and 20 psi since 2015. No problems yet. Just keep detonation under control. I've blown head gaskets and broke a ring land on the stock piston at less boost but was obviously having detonation issues at the time.
  21. My ex-wife worked for a company called isotech in Canton Georgia. You can talk to a sales person there and tell them what you're needing and they will send you a free sample to try. You could try that and if you get it right you may not need to buy the product.
  22. Talk to Ron. He quoted me $140 for a custom regrind. I'll be sending him my stock cam next month. He also quoted $5 each for rocker reconditioning. I'll call him again before I send my cam. I'm looking for something around.525-.550" lift and 230 duration @ .050". Hopefully he'll be able to do that. Ron is a very honest guy. He said that the stock regrind cams are better than the new cams he sells.
