Hey everyone, I don't know if we have a thread like this, but what does every member do as their job and how they got into Z's(I know this second question has been asked)? We have a wide range of people from highschoolers to professional engine builders from all over the country. So For starters I'm a College Student at Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach FL right now, going for my Electrical engineering BA and doing Air Force ROTC. I got into Z's when my friend gave me his 81' 280zx with a blown motor for free! and soon after I got myself a 260z as well. Also you don't have to/shouldn't put any kind of personal info in this if it makes you uncomfortable. Forgot to add I'm 20 right now and I got my first ZX when I was 16 and the 260z when I just turned 17. My brother got me into cars, he drives the Type R in my sig pic.

Crazyoctopus 1972 240z build up (long first post)
BluDestiny replied to crazyoctopus's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I want to know how much your car weighs, and how much weight you've taken off total. -
Talk to Art and Mike at Sunrise Z in Glendale, CA. You can literally go to them and ask them questions. They have tons of exp with Z'z of all kinds and a bunch of people including me swear by them. Mechanically it will be a remove and replace job, but you may need to figure out the wiring like if you want to use the stock harness or just use something like megasquirt.

little confused. any help would be awesome
BluDestiny replied to 82 turbo z's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
You need to ask youself some questions like what is your budget and hp goal and is this a track motor, or a street motor before you just throw parts in your car. If you're getting the port/polish for your head it looks to me like you want to make serious HP. Big Phil made almost 400 on a stock block with a big turbo and no port/polish so I find that an added expense that you don't need/can put to better parts. Also I agree with the whole meth injection thing gollum said, its another extra expense if you can just get some E85. As for what you need in your megasquirt kit, you should call DIYautotune first. They have some pretty knowledgeable guys. Just make sure you read the sticky first in the EMS section so you know what you're talking and more importantly what he's talking about. -
Mechanical fuel pump or electric?

Need a few Opinions on Clutch and Flywheel
BluDestiny replied to GAwes's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
Just being me, I opted to go for stage 1 exedy, not the oem replacemtnt. The Fidanza is well worth it. I am currently using a Fidanza flywheel and Spec stage 3 6-puck 240mm clutch in my 260 which has probably a little less than 200whp and it is way over kill. On my mostly stock 280zx, I have the Fidanza and also the stage 1 organic clutch. It feels just right, almost oem and is very driveable. When I go Turbo with it, then I'll be able to tell you how well it handles more hp. -
When I got my 280zx it had 2 crushed bearings in the oil pan. the engine had 200,000 miles one it. I don't know exactly what the PO was doing.

Some pics of the car: front of hood is filled with foam or something in those holes a Nasty Rust hole near the gas filler: and dents everywhere: ttops are good though: and the engine, with a lot of homemade stuff on it.

Rota RB-R, the spokes look different though. $750 for a set. Also XXR has something. 513 or 507 or something.

Good evening everyone, I'm looking looking at intercoolers for my 280zx, but I'm not really sure where to run the piping. It's not liek the s30 with 2 holes perfect for IC piping so if any have pictures of an intercooler setup on their S130 it would be appreciated. Also I'm going for a 31x12x3 intercooler (core length 24x12x3) and it looks like it will fit when I measured it out. So if anyone is using that size let me know. The brands I've been looking at are Mishimoto and Godspeed for intercoolers. Also I need a fuel pressure regulator for my fuel supply, and I've been looking at this unit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MAA-4305M/?rtype=10 Want to know if anyone is running it and is happy. I'm completely redoing my fuel system with a walboro 255 pump, new bigger hardlines, and all braided lines with a single fuel rail with inline analog gauge and some big rc 550 injectors. Any objections with this plan of mine? Other than this my next big purchases are going to be the megasquirt system and the intercooler+piping and I should be ready to throw it all together.

Does anyone have a pic for their S130's? need some ideas.

tell me how they turn out, That's about 20 min from me. How much are you getting charged and what exactly are you getting done?

Hey Everyone, Picked up a Turbo 280zx 81(auto) this weekend. I'm going to be swapping out my NA 280zx with it and in the process "build" the motor to try and get 300 hp out of it. It actually kinda runs, but the PO said it had an overheating issue or something with the headgasket, etc... either way when I pull it out to swap it I'll be taking the head off to inspect it for internal damage. The car is in pretty bad shape and every body panel has rust holes (at least golf ball size) or some really bad bondo work done to it. he got it with all the holes "covered" but he told me he tried to wire wheel all the rust off and just spray painted it to keep it from rusting more. Interior is sub par, the PO tried to "blackout" the interior and ended up taking random panels out and painting them black ( a few of the pieces look alright) and then the rest is mostly ripped or has tears. Hopefully i'll be able to pull the motor out next weekend, when I can ask my friend to bring the engine hoist over. Good thing is that the car only has 96xxx miles on it and the turbo has been "rebuilt" (showed me a receipt from a garage with a $300 'turbo rebuild' on it). Other than that i'm trying to part out the car. Now down to business,so far the things I have/will use are the engine(block, ex. mani, turbo, downpipe, dizzy, oil cooler) and an N42 non egr intake. I am looking to get an intercooler, and single fuel rail from pallnet (unless anyone want to sell me one) some supra injectors, and Megasquirt. My NA zx now only has what's required for the engine to run(took out AC, cruise, etc.) so hopefully it should be easy to get my engine out. Pictures soon to come. If anyone has any advice or words of wisdom please chime in. (feel free to tell me I'm doing something wrong as well)

About to get megasquirt and have a few questions
BluDestiny replied to BluDestiny's topic in MegaSquirt
no it isn't, I have a backup and plan to keep the car garages for about a month. Noodle, with the MS setup do you run a MAF and some type of ignition box? what is your setup like. The plan is to be minimalistic, less stuff in the engine bay, only what needs to be there for the car to run. -
Hey everyone, I've never dealt with MS or anything like it so it's going to be a huge step for me, anyway I want to know if implementing megasquirt will allow me to get rid of my MAF. Also will I be able to use my MSD 6AL with it? This is going on my NA 81 280zx, but I soon plan to turbo my NA motor. The motor is completely stock right now

Have you looked into Megasquirt? or Nistune

Wheel ID help please!
BluDestiny replied to emoximuu's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
They look like watanabe's or some knock off of them. What size are they? -
I'm gonna have to pass on that. for the hood I would really prefer a local pickup or at least within 3 hours of me
-
Hey everyone, these parts are for my 1981 280zx. I'm in Daytona Beach right now and would like local pickup on most things, but i'll cover shipping for the small things. The List Tokico Illumina front shocks, pair Turbo exhaust headers Aluminum radiator in decent shape A turbo hood with both vents intact, surface rust not an issue A set of rims, preferably 16 or 17 and 8 inches or wider. I don't need rubber on them Thanks guys
-
Has anyone tried putting these in? and do you have pics? Yes I know I'll need a custom mount but it shouldn't cost that much. I might be getting this pair... http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/pts/1870844836.html
