  1. Dished pistons do nothing for the chamber design, swirl effect or quench. They literally just lower the comp ratio by about 1 point. Lower CR means less likely detonation
  2. This is a perfect example of a resto/mod done right. Nothing is "overkill" especially when you are the judge. Overkill to some may be hardly touching it to others. kudos and keep the pics coming.
  3. Just FYI I got quoted $130 for a custom 3" dp from my local muffler shop. With flange and O2 bung. just as Mario said its pretty much 2 mandrel bent pieces welded together with a flange. Also the MSA dp is for the stock turbo. Have you shopped around and also what turbo do you ultimately plan on going with?
  4. There is a huge misconception that the exhaust liners are "evil". Honestly the P79 and P90 have the same shape combustion chamber and from recorded flow test have nearly identical flow. I feel it would only matter in an extreme case or road or drag applications with a N/A engine. Maybe someone could prove me wrong(is 250+ whp with an NA P79 head possible? probably with the right amount of cash) Lazuem, have you had a chance to dyno your setup?
  5. I remember reading a thread where someones fan grenaded, probably from flex and age,and put a gash into his radiator
  6. I'm in your boat. I just got my diamond racing rims(16x8f and 16x10r) and am having trouble finding tires to fit. I'm really against mixing tires and so far the only tires I've found that will fit are the Khumo XS tires (Love those tires, great grip I have them on my 15x7 now). They have a 265/45/16 and a 245 size, but the 265's cost quite a bit more. I really want to try another type of tire, but no one really makes those sizes. I might be stretching a pair of 255/50 though and it would save me some cash.
  7. Sticky, My 81 2+2 weighs about 2600 pounds with almost all fluids, no AC, stock tires and almost completely gutted with 2 sparco seats(no rears). Pretty sure I could get it down even more if I decide to take out the heater stuff and custom Aluminum dash forgot to add I love having a rear wiper, power windows and mirrors and a heating system that works(compared to my 260z)
  8. Like the subframe reinforcement. Will the tranny clear the brace though?
  9. make sure it runs first. Then maybe it's worth that much. Try and get it for $3k since it needs new tires and probably some rubber hoses
  10. my 280zx was literally on the street without a motor in it for about 2 years before I managed to get a motor rebuilt and dropped in. My neighbors hated it.
  11. A CF hood from beta motor sports will run you about $800. JohnC can help you with that, but honestly you can lose more weight by taking the bumpers off. Also try looking around hybridz, they have a thread on cheap upgrades somewhere
  12. I have a 260z early. It weighs 2520 on a truck scale. It had all fluids and full tank of gas, rear tire, cheapo APC pepboys seats and an aftermarket AC installed. Its got a full interior also. For comparison my 81 280zx 2+2 weighs 2600 with about 3/4 tank, all other fluids, no carpet no rear seats , no interior in the trunk area, no spare tire, and 2 sparco fighter seats. oh and no AC or AC lines.
  13. Why wouldn't you just get forged KA pistons? buy 3 sets (=12 pistons) and sell the other 6 as a pair. If you have the money of course. Also you're building up your lower end for reliability. I would do it once right.
  14. For all the younger people on this site(or the older gentlemen who love video games) who's excited for this game to come! Has about 70 tracks and a tad over a thousand cars(1031 I think) It says there is a 71 240zg and a 280z and I think an s130 in it.
  15. has anyone tried welding the wastegate pipe ontot eh turbo housing? or is that a big no no? It would look a little something like this guys, and I don't see it having any problems with connecting to the downpipe. http://www.stevericeracing.com/wastegate_placement.htm Not sure if it ould clear the intake manifold though without somekind of 45 degree extending flange, like the ones in this thread just without the wastegate flange.
  16. Doors and quarter panels will not swap over, the doors are too short and (depending on what section you need) the quarters have a different shape. I think general concensus is that anything from the dash/firewall front will swap. Most of the electrical wires won't be the same length and the carpet etc. small things like the taillights and rear wiper motor will. Diff is a no brainer, gas tank will too I think, along with bumpers.
  17. Look in the EMS section, under megasquirt. And the price all depends on what YOU choose to get if YOU install it.
  18. not to get off topic, but TimZ what machine work do you have done to your engine?
  19. I don't know if it's just me but a lot of the people who are on this site tend to have a military/engineer background. maybe just comes with the experience.
  20. turboHLS30, I've read your build thread and stuff. I drive a 280zx, Black. Probably haven't seen me since I live on the other side of the intercoastal. Near the track.
  21. Hey everyone, I don't know if we have a thread like this, but what does every member do as their job and how they got into Z's(I know this second question has been asked)? We have a wide range of people from highschoolers to professional engine builders from all over the country. So For starters I'm a College Student at Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach FL right now, going for my Electrical engineering BA and doing Air Force ROTC. I got into Z's when my friend gave me his 81' 280zx with a blown motor for free! and soon after I got myself a 260z as well. Also you don't have to/shouldn't put any kind of personal info in this if it makes you uncomfortable. Forgot to add I'm 20 right now and I got my first ZX when I was 16 and the 260z when I just turned 17. My brother got me into cars, he drives the Type R in my sig pic.
  22. I want to know how much your car weighs, and how much weight you've taken off total.
  23. Talk to Art and Mike at Sunrise Z in Glendale, CA. You can literally go to them and ask them questions. They have tons of exp with Z'z of all kinds and a bunch of people including me swear by them. Mechanically it will be a remove and replace job, but you may need to figure out the wiring like if you want to use the stock harness or just use something like megasquirt.
