How do I wire this thing? HELP!
DavyZ replied to T.Lindsey's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Agreed. The manual is your best bet and then the forums. Good luck. Davy -
I'll be the odd man out here--I'm using (have in a box) a stock replacement clutch for the WC T5 and a V8 rated at 350 hp. I know 73BOTIZ (Mike D) was running one in his Non WC T5 and at least at 375 hp. He bought his clutch for $75 delivered from ebay. He even drag raced his car and it still held up (at least until he eventually sold the car) but was using street tires. Unless you are shocking the drive train at the strip on a normal basis, the stock replacement should hold up fine for a long time. The T5 came in a Camaro that weighs a lot more than the Z car and they seem to hold up fine for the most part. I suppose it all depends on how you drive the car. Davy

What should I do with the exhaust tip?
DavyZ replied to heavy85's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
How about a slash cut that mimics the angle of the car down there? It's cool to be at that point. Show us what you come up with! Davy -
She's a thinker. THAT is the correct way of doing it! She came up with that on her own? She must have been reading a paint & body book when you're out I'm impressed. I had to look it up... Davy

That's EXACTLY what Roost was just referring to! STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Davy

I think I know what you are looking for, but do you just want a lid that looks like a billet 'racing' cap or an actual cap, such as on a sportbike? If you just want a lid, it's true that the car has a slight curve in the panel and that you will either need to 1) build up to a flat cap or 2) get a contoured cap and hope for the best in terms of curve compatibility. One way to find just a door is to get a billet replacement from ebay of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, Hyundai Tiburon, or Audi TT. All of them have curved quarter panels with curved doors. If you want a flat one, well, the sky is the limit. An uncommon source would be from performance boating or even from the rodding magazines (roadsters and such). You just need to look around. The sportbike doors would almost be my first choice in form and function, but they require bodywork to make it fit correctly. The billet doors from the Mitsu on ebay would be my second choice, although the curve is a slight gamble. Just my $.02 Davy

Ah, I had to read that again. I agree that the entire body kit may not be appealing to everyone. I was somehow equating the front air-dam only, not the full kid, with your post, sorry. Serves me right for reading too quickly. Still, looks aside, functionality is another issue. The Type III air-dam is pretty darn cool in my opinion. I don't think it's overdone on an otherwise stock-bodied S30. If I didn't have a custom one waiting to go on, I'd spring for one... Davy

Happy Christmas and a fine New Year to everyone at HybridZ! Make a good one with your family and friends Davy

...except that it probably is 100% functional... Davy

Seriously? The color that "everyone" thinks of as being 'best' for a Z car. Kind of like a standard of sorts methinks. I personally vote for silver. Boring? Maybe. Understated? Perhaps. Stealthy yet classy? Most certainly! "Silver"....say it with me now, "Silver".... Davy

Oh, man! I am just laughing to myself as I read your post. SUPER! Ingenuity of our membership never ceases to amaze me. That's pretty cool and I have never seen that before--nice! I suppose with simple welding skills, this is something a person can handle quite easily. I like your out-of-the-box type thinking. Davy

If you are going to be driving in the Sierra Nevada mountains, I hope your engine is boosted. I lived in Tahoe for years and every car seemed like it had half the motor it did just due to the altitude. My vote is for AFR heads and EFI with boost Can I spend more of your money? Davy

Good luck with your new endeavors. I think you contributed a lot to the forum and came up with some innovative brake ideas. I also think you ended up with a real monster of a Z that had an extremely clean look (even without paint). Keep the shiny side up. You'll have a Z again someday Davy

My favorite one. Me likey. Jay, you got one heckuva ride. Thanks for posting the links to the run Davy
-
Jay, you own the black car, right? I thought it was running?! Davy
-
Mike, if you get the chance to upload it to the forum, please make it a sticky in this forum. I think it deserves to be that way. I'm sure they cut the crap out of it (figuratively ) and I'd love to read EVERYTHING you wrote. We have the space for the whole shebang here Davy

Haha! If you still have the carb let me know--see my PM. I may want to buy it, but I have no idea if my budget will allow. Davy
-
I doubt it will make any difference if you use different designs front to rear. If I ruined just one of my front rotors, I would replace them both in front at the same time, not just one. Same style, regardless. Differences in design front to rear should make little difference. Davy

Wayne, I have been really considering the same Massflo system you have and have been considering costs as well. It seems to make sense, especially when you can use the application in a turbocharged setup. Decisions, decisions. Thanks for providing the pictures of everything. You are making some serious progress and the work looks top-notch! I may go turbo carbed for now even though its not ideal in the least. I have everything to do it *sigh*. Davy

Terry, in retrospect, I should have kept my mouth shut to begin with. I'm not sure what prompted me to make my other post, but what's done is done. I'm feeling the same as you and wish Ernie was still around. He answered a lot of questions for me and we had some good times when I lived near him. I think you're a lot like him in that respect. I remember at least 10 years ago (?) that you sent me a bunch of photos of your car when it first appeared in Kit Car magazine. Yeah, you're one of the good ones too. Thanks for sticking around the site, Terry! Davy

OMG!! Steering locked up at 45mph!!!
DavyZ replied to cygnusx1's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Pucker factor is right! That's VERY scary and I hope you find out what the cause of it was. Look for a dead mouse somewhere in the... Seriously, find it. Locate it. Fix it. I would have serious trepidation in driving a car that I knew could kill me with an intermittent issue like that. Good luck, Dave. Davy -
Terry, did his photo deletions of the "old school" racing cars, the thread he created, count as "outdated" material??? I'm still wondering about that. However... Terry, I do know (did know?) Ernie personally. I worked mere minutes from his home in Daly City and we'd meet up and have lunch on occasion. Well, I know his personal philosophy isn't to harm or damage anyone or anything, but one day we found that he had deleted an extensive amount of information from HybridZ. The info here is shared freely and really isn't anyone's particular "property" except the site's property if you think about it. His deletions came and we decided as a group to "not give him the option" of deleting anymore of his posts. Decontenting this vast resource of information and knowledge contained on this site didn't cut it for us, whether we knew Ernie or not. It doesn't matter what his intentions were and we made a decision to protect the site. I like Ernie and still consider him an acquaintance. I probably should not have let the cat out of the bag earlier in this thread, especially if it leads to "Ernie bashing" or something like that. I won't tolerate that, especially when he can't speak in his defense, but since I'm an admin, I am including the facts here as I know them to be. Again, I still consider Ernie an acquaintance and would always break with him again, photos or no photos. I never wanted him to leave and I still don't know the extent of what he went through with the PMs and email from negative members. It must have been a lot. I created this sticky in 2006 to help with some of what he was experiencing http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=115242 but it obviously wasn't enough. We lost a great member in Ernie. I wish things were as they were when he was still here. He was always helping people here and treating us as Ohana. Too bad. Davy

He left on his own accord. Did you notice all his deleted posts? That's the reason he can't post anymore. Davy

Yes, the mice have very good taste apparently. I think a plastic car bag could work. Cloth would be a no no since they might shred it to make a nest. Plastic doesn't taste like anything or smell like anything, so I'm not sure they would chew it. A plastic car bag covered in the oil from jalapeno pepper skin would probably do wonders in keeping the bastards at bay. Davy

Comfy daily drive that's for sure. Good looking cars, especially when lowered an inch. Nice. Davy
