When I received my 240z, it had a hole through the block and was missing a conrod. So no, floating the valves is not a good rev limiter.

Just out of curiosity what made you choose this rear end over a 300zx, 240sx, etc. setup?

Any update on how this is holding up? Thanks!!!

I have an 1891 Argentine Mauser and had a Mauser Standard Modell, which is basically a 'civilian' K98, I sold it though. Check out surplusrifle.com if you haven't before. I know one of the moderators for that site, he also runs one of the best used gun stores in Nor Cal.

1891 Argentine Mauser. Full length. I started reloading about 3 months ago. It is surprisingly accurate. Thats for another thread though.

Wheel Show! Post your pics of you wheels
rudypoochris replied to k3werra's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I got the wheels signed today by Peter Brock of BRE, Trevor Harris (BRE Chassis/Supension designer), Floyd Link (BRE engine builder), and Kirk Allegro (BRE mechanic)! Now I just need to find out how to repair the clear coat (I had them sign on undamaged areas). They are really great guys! The 17x11.5" rear wheel only comes in at 20.75 lbs also which to me is quite light considering the size. -
What's everyone doing for the memorial day weekend?

Car show in Vallejo, with BRE! -
Into milsurp also? ^ I use G96 "Triple Action" gun treatment. You spray it on rust, wait a few, grab a quarter and it rubs it right off and it is good as new. For small parts I would just toss them into my tumbler, but this is impressive for larger parts and people willing to sacrifice their bathtub.

I ended up buying BFG KD's in 255/40/17 and 275/40/17 about 2 months ago after doing a pretty hefty amount of research. Apparently the BFG KD line is being phased out and I got the fronts on close out for $160 each on tirerack.com and a pair of new 275/40/17's off a distributor on Ebay for $300 shipped, he was also emptying his inventory. Was a smoking deal, but I would of probably bought the KD's for full price based off of what I have READ about them. I have not run them yet. Thats just my result after researching too much.

Oh yea. After the first ticket I lost the car privilege for 2 weeks. The second time 2 months. That worked...

I believe they did, but they haven't been made since the late 80's or mid 90's or something. These are 4x114.3 though for a 240z. Thanks for the compliments. I am eventually going to get the clear coat refinished on them since one of the wheels is a little corroded through the clear. Does anyone know what kind of place typically does that kind of work and does the wheel need to be taken apart? Thanks! -

The 17x9.5" all around or 17x9" front and 17x9.5" rear price is $750 shipped in the mainland USA. As for tires and such, I do not know if they are a good deal. I got my set of BFG KD's in 255/40/17 and 275/40/17 for ~$600 but I got pretty lucky. Beyond that, I don't know. I have heard of Fuzion but I know it to be a budget brand. -

Heheh. Thanks! I really want John Morton or any BRE guys to sign them in Gold Sharpie this weekend. Crossing my fingers. They really are strangely light though. Its a bit disturbing. I would think them heavier. Apparently the rims are forged or something. I should get them on a scale. -
Well. I would shoot for a small engine that makes JUST enough horsepower at WOT for cruising. Then I would give it a relatively high CR with a relatively small turbo, good EFI tuning... Thats about the most I would hope for from a gas motor. If you take a diesel for example, its not that the fuel is THAT much more powerful its more that there is no need for a throttle body which the engine fights against, they are often turbo which reuses some exhaust energy and such, and they have a compression ratio through the roof. The limit is going to come when you need power for acceleration and such, which on a gas motor inevitably means that your cruising is going to be with the TB 80% shut or so, which is a large restriction. The choice then is, do I want a motor that just barely gives enough power to maintain 65mph (~20hp) or do I want one that can scoot. Which is why fuel economy is an issue. A 20hp motor might be very compact though and worth installing with some sort of one way engagement.

Whats wrong with the JTR radiator out of curiosity? It is relatively cheap, has mounting brackets you can buy, is easy to retrofit a Taurus fan onto or other AM fan. Is it insufficient in core size/

I just gear out to avoid pumping losses. Shift by 1,000 in the truck (almost if not flooring it, 1st, 2nd, 3rd). Then once I am on the boulevard I can sit in 5th at 1,000rpm and just give it the tiniest of touches to keep it rolling. Helps a lot for city mileage. 70mph on the freeway though, not much you do but get a less powerful motor so the TB is open more and there is less friction from smaller displacement. It has worked for me in my instance, but probably won't for everyone depending on their EFI or Carb. Also when you go to WOT emissions stuff typically gets disabled. Maybe right before WOT is best unless you program the computer differently so that your not clogging cats or over fueling.

The fact of the matter is, no matter how slow the car it can take a life extremely easily. I drove a slow car, but that didn't slow me down. Two tickets did and the experience of driving for 5 years. It takes time, no matter how much I was told not to do this and that, it didn't really hit me until I had some experience and close calls. Its just important to make sure close calls is all he is having and nothing more. Responsibility, caring about the automobile, and keeping the car as well as his mind in top shape (not driving intoxicated... on the cell phone... showing off to friends... etc.) are what are key. In the end it is your common sense and to a much smaller degree luck that keeps you alive.

PG Powerbrute, Arizona Z Car Billet LCA's, 280z Stubs, 300zxT axles (from a USA 87 I believe). No bind. I haven't checked for max clearance yet, will try this weekend.

I would let him drive it as is but educate him about not speeding and such. He probably will anyway, will get some tickets, then stop. Thats how people learn though and its probably best to let him learn for himself, because he is going to have to learn it later anyway. Thats just my 2 cents though as a 20 year old who happens to have a pair of speeding tickets. Hmmm.

Exactly. I am purely afraid of getting hit with "You cost too much to ship". Thats the buyers own fault because it is plain as day when they bid. Never mind the fact that Ebay is telling me my shipping is high. Unfortunately it doesn't mean anything when I go down to UPS and I am still $30 short for shipping. Hmmm.

For those of you who don't know, I am a huge wheel fan. Its fun for me anyway, kind of strange. Here is a set I got a while ago. Bought these 4 months or so ago, never got a chance to photo them. I am trying to get them signed by Peter Brock this weekend at a car show (cross your fingers right). Just one of them on the lip and I will be happy. I just wiped it down with a wet cloth, didn't reclear it or buff or anything. Thats for later if I ever get around to using these! 17x9.5" front and 17x11.5" rear offsets are something like -25 front and -45 rear. They are 3-piece and actually surprisingly light. Has over 7" of lip on the rear. -

Would this be for a front or rear fitment? For a 17x8.5" +4 with a 275/40/17You will probably need to space out on the front ~10mm. The rear probably a smidgen less. I am of the opinion though that that tire is really too large (based on the specification) for that rim. Would have to see it though to know better. Currently there are no photos of this on a 280zx. My friend 'Gollum' who helped me out with the 280z fitment has said that he would be willing to help us out again with a 280zx fitment and photo shoot. I will try and do this with him this coming weekend - probably on Monday. -
Is this the same handle as the black one shown above, but in raw un upholstered form? Can I save on shipping, and if so how much, if I were to pick them up?

No way I can prove it is stock, but here is a video that 'claims' to do a 10.8 stock with drag radials. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Stock-Z06-runs-108-on-guy_111458.htm -
I will look into using FedEx or DHL. The reason I stopped using FedEx was not that they lost my packages... it was more a combination of extreme latency one time for absolutely no reason. The second time the package was coming from Maine to CA and I was tracking it... It turned around in Utah or somewhere similar and went to South Carolina for absolutely no reason. I called them and they were most unhelpful. After the 3rd call or so they put it on a plane to me, still got to me about 5 days late. Shouldn't have to call 3 times to get a problem like that remedied. Greyhound is also surprisingly fast. It sucks though that you have to pick it up at a terminal though.
