NewZed
Question is do you guys know if the 280zx CV axles 27 spline will plug in the 27 spline sti r180 diff? Read Post #9 - welded - and look at these threads and web site. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/78123-subaru-wrx-sti-r180-side-axles/ http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/93316-subaru-wrx-sti-r180-side-axles-part-deux/ http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=22:tranny-a-rear-diff-parts&catid=16:tranny-a-rear-diff-parts&Itemid=
TonioHybriD
Subaru STI 2003 would be good too?! Spline? What would be the LSD type and ratio?
madkaw
Anyone have knowledge of more current years of diffs ??? I’m ready to purchase a torsion 3.54 . A ton on eBay as current as 2020 . They still look like the same casing but want to make sure my stub axles will work on any year .
Derek
I have a R180 out of a 2019 Impreza and I'm running the DatsunRestomod axles.

AydinZ71
@madkaw i have the same axles as Derek, and a 17’ 3.54 STI Torsten (helical). I believe they were 3.9 and a clutch-type LSD from 05-07’, then all the future models (until last year to my knowledge) were 3.54’s. you will need shorter mounting studs on the diff cover. Swap your OEM studs with the longer Subbie studs, or buy new from Zcardepot.

I just bought a used ‘18 myself
jonbill
It doesn't matter I know, but I'm compelled to point out it is torsen (torque-sensing), not torsion or torsten. Sorry.
AydinZ71
Torsten was an autocorrect (odd?) oopsie poopsie. Acknowledged, it is Torsen. I thought it was just a fancy word for a helical-type LSD 🤷🏽♂️

jhm
I belong to several Subaru forums, and have bookmarked several good discussions on the topic over the years. Here's a couple for anyone wanting to salvage an LSD diff: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2597453 https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1969700 http://legacycentral.org/library/literature/differential.htm#Which Subarus do I look at to find an LSD Last time I checked, John Williams was offering the best price on adapter side axles, if retaining the stock half-shafts. Futofab also offers them, but the sources are drying up. Sadly, Fritz is no longer producing the integrated CV axles that @Derek and @AydinZ71 refer to (DatsunRestoMods)....I'm guessing he didn't sell enough to make it worthwhile. (Just recently saw that T3 is marketing CV axles that appear very similar to the DatsunRestoMod units: https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/260z/long-nose-r180r200-cv-axles-240260280z) FWIW, I've been running a 3.54 Torsen with John W's adapter side axles in my last two cars for several years issue-free. Modest power with decent torque numbers and very sticky rubber in a variety of road course and auto-x applications. Hope this info helps for anyone considering the swap.
