With a common throttle shaft how can you accurately adjust the butterfly's(think synchronize) for consistant idle or is this mostly for racing at WOT? Without a procedure for butterfly adjustment I don't think this method would be to good for a street prepped car.

http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=8712&cat=500&ppuser=7958 In this pic you will see what motor hook should be there for lifting the motor. Using the hook that is bolted to the front of your motor now should be ok, I just don't know how level it would be and I would check to make sure the bolt holding it on is as long as possible. I never have liked the idea of bolting a chain to the motor/head, but I have done it before will no ill effects.

Looking at the picture it appears the previous owner has attached a rear motor hook to the front of the engine, to replace the missing front motor hook which as stated would be bolted to the two holes in the green circle.

Bill, Good to hear your all set up in your new place. I would love to see some pics. I haven't been to a Z club meeting since about the time you left. I'm just not nearly as interested as I use to be and work isn't helping out with me having spare time. Weather hasn't been all that great here, so your not missing much. Right now I'm not dealing with snow, but there is going to be a freeze this weekend right after a day of high 60* weather with lots of rain. But whats new, it's Texas. Lots of more rain and frozen roads to deal with, just in time for work come Monday. Maybe I'll have a day off to finish working on the '74. She is almost ready for the roads again. I just rebuilt the frozen rear calipers, due to the 2 1/2 year waiting period. My finger tips still feel funny after all the brake cleaner and carb cleaner. Thats the last of it besides breaking in the motor and some how getting her repainted due to the yellowing. I'm hoping to make the show in Florida. I have family there and I didn't get much time at our convention. BTW, David, I know I don't know you personally, but for someone to be so nice as to put Bill and Chris up in your own home, I would love to. What ever pics you send Bill I would like to see. The older I get the more I realize how much family means to me. My step son is in Iraq and my grand daughter is coming to visit soon and I'll have some great pics. I actually have some good pics of him just before leaving to Iraq, but I don't know if you would be interested.

I had recently switched insurance companies after about 12 years with the same company. I first asked about pricing for my '92 Pathfinder(my DD) and found they had a pretty good quote. I asked if they deal with collectors or classic insurance and they said it depends. I told them the vehicle was an early '74 260Z and they said sure and quoted me a price without mile limitations. It was actually about the same price as the Pathy. I then inquired about getting just liability on my recently sold '77 280Z(old DD) and the quote was almost double that of the Pathfinder. I asked how this could be, just for liability. They said because it was a sports car and getting to old to find parts.... Have they not tried to find parts for the bastard year '74? I also guess I better just get an appraisal on the '74(which I was going to do) and not let them have a clue what a turbo is. Sports car, didn't we have a discussion about that meaning not to long ago?

Somebody wanted a new Mustang and got a Z. Look at the tail lights and front "driving lights".

Just a week ago I purchased a booster for a 260 from Oreilly's after a 2 1/2 year rebuild, which the NON 2+2 is the same for the 280 NON 2+2 (8 1/2" diameter). It was about $100 after discount, remanufactured. There was massive pitting, but it worked and didn't leak. I doubt there will be any problem ordering one from Courtesy Nissan, but if the price is alittle to much and you can't find one locally, PM me.

I don't know if this is the case with a 280Z and since my old one isn't here right now I can't check, but... It has been acouple years since I did the ZX master swap on my early 260Z, but I recall having to switch the lines around once the ZX master was installed. Check the side of the master for "F" and "R" and check your lines.

$1400 for my early '74 about 9 years ago. $200 for the '77 which I just sold for a small profit. Free '79 280zx I just got today even though it has been sitting in the driveway for over a year.

Replacing the front lower valance pieces with ones from a 240 or early 260 would allow the use of the BRE spook.

Releasing cabin pressure. early 1st gens had the vents in the hatch.

YeaJimi, I didn't get a PM from you. If you don't know how, PM me LOL spotfitz@yahoo.com for reference. blade=circle crimp connection with hole for stud bullet(male)=well, just like it sounds, but with teflon(oops, rubber boot ~ All the connections coming out of the loom are under the coil, which tells me by your pics someone(you probably) have pulled them out to gain access. Also, if the connections are still on the wires you can usually figure out where they go without a wiring diagram. It's almost idiot proof because they didn't include any of the same connections coming out of any of the same spots. IE, female of the same color coming out of the same general location , but could have male of the same color coming out of the same location within a loom. from main loom-->components 1)black blade--> - coil 2)blue blade--> + coil 3)yellow female bullet-->blue a/c compressor 4)black male bullet-->white condencer(thing your missing) 5)black female bullet-->blue condencer(thing your missing) 6)white/black stripe female bullet--> acc?(under TB) Ok, this vehicle is Very original '79 280ZX BUT, the previous owner's wife took at it with a knife and cut ALL spark plug wires, vacuum lines and almost all wires up on the intake and some in other places(why only I have keys to MY garage). So, #4 was cut and #5 was cut, but #5 still had the black bullet connected to it and wouldn't reach the TB. #4 can only reach the loom. Hope this helps and again sorry for taking so long to get back with you(I now owe YOU a beer). One good thing for the delay. I FINALLY got my '74 started for the first time in 2 1/2 years since starting the rebuild. I'll be updating my "update" post and try to hook up with BigPhil and get some video of the maiden voyage. Now I'm back out in the garage and install my new brake booster.. Let me know if I can help out more. It doesn't take but afew seconds to pull the cover off the car. I sometimes need a remind, like during the holiday rush..

Crap. That was the same day my 16 year old cat died. Sorry, I forgot all about you. PM me as a reminder. I get off work in about an hour. Worse comes to worse, I get off at 10A.M. Friday(as usual) so if I miss it tonight I can get you some shots tomorrow morning.

Yes, and note I do recall there are differences in the wire plugs in the 280Z models. Also, Blax240 is a member here but under another name. Edit: I answered yes thinking you were asking about the S30 all being the same.

Taillight won't turn off, draining battery...
spotfitz replied to SuperPickle's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
My step son sounds like your room mate, except I'm the one tired of paying his way while living with me. Sure you don't want to take him with you?(my step son, not your room mate) Best of luck to you. -

Make you a deal. I have a '79 in my driveway at the house. I'll take a look once I get home, after going to the farmers market. Next time I see you, you owe me a beer! I would be willing to bet money that the blue wire by the coil goes to the blue wire on the a/c clutch. I'll check that out aswell. Reply back or pm me incase I get side tracked before getting home. I always check my email.
