  1. Have you looked into Megasquirt for fuel and timing control?
  2. That's baby piping. You should look at the stuff on a high output diesel Cummins. Lots of power, but I doubt he'll sell it for that much. I believe its a deal though. If I were to go through and try and make that much power out of a LSx, Northstar, Supra, RBxx, etc... I'm sure it would cost much more.
  3. I have a 5th Gear video with Tiff Needell trying to break the record in a twin engine, AWD, Super 7 kit. I think they did it in 2.5 seconds. Pretty amazing.
  4. Mid 90's Civic VX. Has an econo-Vtec that will get you into the 50MPG range on the freeway. You can get a good deal on a decent running one. Won't have a warranty, but parts aren't expensive and it should run for at least 200,000 miles without any major problems. Otherwise, a newer Kia or Hyundai is a good deal for the money. I also saw an ad at my local Saturn dealer for a $99.00 a month lease on approved credit (no idea how much down) for a new ION.
  5. Its a gear derived limited slip. No "true" wear elements as with a viscous or clutch style LSD. Although it can wear out, I believe Quaife gives you a lifetime warranty on their units when bought as an aftermarket part (This includes racing too). They really do believe in their product.
  6. My friend owns a Volvo service shop. The FWD cars a more difficult to work on, but still very good. They have much better creature comforts, safety features, and power. The 240s and 7xx's are both awesome cars though. Just look out on the road. You see dozens upon dozens of old 240 wagons and sedans. Its a testament to their durability. My friend and his dad (the shop owners) both own 7xx series cars. My friend's 740 is completely modded (read: over 350 RWHP) and still a tank. His dad's 760 turbo is going strong with over 300,000 miles. My friend's sister had a 240 for years. She totalled out 3 other cars with it, because it was so strong. Ever seen an SUV get taken out by a poor little 240 sedan. Pretty interesting to say the least.
  7. Nothing like a 2.4L with a head swap and a few aftermarket parts.
  8. I haven't seen anything about the GM turbo V6 cars. I would add to the list: Buick T-Type/GN/GNX Cyclone and Typhoon As far as I know, it doesn't take much to really make those machines move. Especially the AWD Cyclone and Typhoon.
  9. What heads and cam did you go with?
  10. Isn't it a supercharged K-Series Honda motor?
  11. I hope you sue for all court costs and laywer fees. The look on her face when she gets served with papers. That would be awesome.
  12. I believe if you do an LS1 with LQ9? truck heads it yields a lower static compression ratio, because of the larger combustion chambers. Check out http://www.patriot-performance.com for more info.
  13. I just got rid of a 1970 Ford F100 that was sitting on the side of our house. It only had 70,000 miles on it, but I'm sure with a little WD40 and new spark plugs that thing would have ran like a champ. It ran fine for the years and years my dad drove it around. He loved that thing. Now, as for the other Ford my parent's own, its been a bag of mixed emotions. Its a 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra. The engine has run strong since the beginning (knock on wood). Its now around 27,000 miles with close to 20,000 of those at the 500RWHP mark. That's right around 575 to the crank. My mom drives this car back and forth to work everday with very few issues (at least not anymore - knock on wood). There have been a few problems on the other hand. I was driving it one day to pick my brother and sister up from school when the AC compressor sheared off. I'm guessing the guys that built the motor (hand built) forgot to put 2 more bolts in. This caused the car to lose the water pump, power steering, and power brakes (runs on power steering), because they all use the same inner belt drive system. Weatherstripping on the rear spoiler started to come out. The dealer wanted to get a whole new spoiler, instead of just laying some new double sided 3M stuff down (we talked them out of it). There was a service bulletin put out for a passanger side head replacement, because the heads were casted wrong. It doesn't help that Ford didn't open up the back freeze plug to allow coolant flow out, so the back two cylinders get really hot (we fixed this later by pulling out the plug and rerouting the coolant flow). The seat used to squeek as it rubbed on the door. The subframe connectors fixed that. The windows squeeked relentlessly until I found some dry silicon spray to put on the window and rubber. Now the front brakes and/or suspension are making some funky noises. Not sure what to do about that though. Now, if you really want to buy something with problems. Try any Chrylser minivan. The tranny on our '96 let go 3 times outside of warranty. My friend's parents had a 92 that went through something like 6 trannies before finally working right. My grandparent's owned an old Dodge full sized van that was nothing but problems. As far as our family is concerned, we have all sworn off any Chrysler product until Mercedes quality control does a number with Chrysler.
  14. I think it has a supercharged K-series motor. Not sure if its a hybrid 2.4L or the same 2.0L from the RSX type S.
  15. My parents bought their home in 1986 for $125,000 here in the Bay Area. Its 1300 sq ft with three bedrooms (tiny master bedroom), and two baths. With the fence falling over, in need of a repaint, etc... the home just appraised for $615,000. Its ridiculous. Anywhere else this home wouldn't be worth much at all.
  16. I'm suprised no one has said anything about an SV650. It is my understanding that they are one of the best bikes to learn on. As the old saying goes, if you have a $10 head, then buy a $10 helmet. Buy a cheaper bike and pay more for the safety gear. All my girlfriend's brothers swear by armored Vanson leathers with titanium knuckled gloves, shin gaurds, riding boots, etc... The oldest brother was hit head on at 40 miles an hour and only broke his leg, because there was a seperation between his boots and his shin gaurds. Had he been wearing his longer, proper riding boots, there would not have been a gap and he would have been fine. I even think they know someone with an industrial sewing machine and sew in what is basically a bullet proof vest. Just my 2 cents
  17. Your signature or whatever it is, is not very nice.
  18. I would say if you have anything to donate to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or any other service I would do that now. I took down around 100lbs of clothing to Goodwill. They almost couldn't accept anything for the rest of the day, because they were so full. I bet Red Cross could really use some monatary donations to cover the cost of the food and water they are giving out.
