  1. Friendly? I wouldn't say that, but they are no threat to humans at all. Whale sharks don't even have teeth. They eat plankton and tiny fish. This one was feeding on the surface when we found her. Granted they get to be 50-60 feet long, this one was about 40, and could certainly do damage if they wanted to but they totally ignored us. You do have to get out of their way, they can't see straight ahead so if you're in front you could get bumped. We saw 14 of these in 3 days in Galapagos.
  2. Just to clarify going the other way for my 280Z. If I took a Z32 short nose LSD carrier and installed it in a 280Z long nose R-200 housing I need to use the Z32 half shafts as well. But I can not exchange the gear set. So if I want to have a LSD 3.54 I need the Z32 to have a 3.54. And then of couse get adapters for it all from MM.

    LSD question

LOL, thanks Jon. I know its all in the stickies but the numbers and buzz words started running together after a while and just makes it very confusing. The more I read it however the clearer it gets. Much of this is all Greek to someone that isn't really familiar with the models and which cars the model really are. I'm just trying to fully understand this and avoid buying something that will be totally unusable or that will cost me a fortune to install. I will check Technotoys, Gabriel is a cool guy, I got hits strut bars.
  4. Not exactly photos but video captures. This is what I do when I'm not turning wrenches on the Z.

    LSD question

I have searched and read until my head is going to explode, LOL. The options and configurations are overwhelming and I hope someone can give my a straight up answer to this question. What all would be involved in putting a 90-96 300ZX LSD into a '77 280Z? Would I need to fabricate mounting or will this "bolt in" with only some new parts from MM? I assume I would have to change axels and flange adapters. Also will the "guts" from a short nose fit in a long nose?
  7. Mine has 115K on the engine, tranny recently rebuilt. I have a 95 Z28 engine in pieces that I will rebuild...someday. The PCM speed thing is based on the tries from the Impala, PITA I'm sure. I'm only running 215/50/17s and I got quite a lot of tire spin even come off the line from idle.
  8. Nice job. We pretty much have the same steup other than mine's a 280Z and has a 94 Z28 LT1. I was pleasenly surprised how well a stock LT1 gets down the track. My 1/8 times were a little faster than yours (8.35), Z28 vs Impala and I have a cold air intake and some slight PCM tweaking. I also removed all the smog stuff except for the pcv valve.
  9. Congrats, major rush isn't it! There seems to be a lot of folks here that were busy this winter with conversions.
  10. I saw that one last and added it to my watch list. My concern is the previous owner found it "too aggressive" for the street and went with a 1.5 way. I have no clues what all that means, but I'm thinking it means the 2 way will release later and be a little harsh making turns on the street. I want LSD but I will rarely race my car so I don't want a race setup that will be a PITA for daily driving.
  11. Good luck with the Eastwood kit. A friend of mine tried that but didn't think the results were good. Hopefully you'll have better results.
  12. I don't know how well these work but; http://eastwood.resultspage.com/search?p=Q&ts=custom&w=chrome+paint
  13. Of course it burned down, LOL. I've been over in the drive train forum looking around. Lots of stuff in there for sure. I'm in no hurry so I'll keep looking and gathering info.
  14. That's good information. Looks like having a 280Z will make this easier. If I choose to go with a Power Brute LSD can I keep my 3.54 gears? I understand the 280zx trubo R200 did not come with 3.54s and I really don't want to go deeper for a street ride. Dale
  15. Thanks for the tips and the link. Didn't know about swapping the front flange. My 60 ft times were pretty weak Sunday, the best was 1.9 which was my best run of course. I had quit a bit of tire spin in the 215 Falkens and the open rear. I have an automatic and left from idle. But I'm not trying to build a drag racer, it will be a daily driver that will occasionally hit the strip. All the other performance cars I have owned had LSD so I know they work so much better for handling too. It would be interesting to try some MTs someday though. Mt suspension is running Tokico lowering springs and struts and is pretty stiff. From what I can see on the video it didn't squat too much.
  16. Yep but I still have U-joint half-shafts. I have some CV axels just haven't installed them yet. Thanks for the compliment, this is new territory for me. Much about Datsuns is so different than anything I've worked on before.
  17. Thanks guys for clearing that cover thing up. But what is the downside of running the old cover, heat? I have CV axels but haven't installed them yet. I will if I get the LSD. Man, you did luck out!
  18. I have a 280Z. Do need to change the mushtash bar to clear a 280ZX LSD? I guess I need to do some searching here.
  19. Thanks, I know its not a simple bolt in, its never as easy as you think it should be..
  20. ARGGGGGG!!!! Story of my life Wayne. Always in the wrong place at the wrong time, LOL.
  21. Yikes! I like SSflyer's price better. LOL. I guess these are getting rare.
  22. After running my LT1 this weekend at DNI I think a LSD is in my near furture. What can one expect to pay for one?
  23. Does that 2750 include your weight? My '77 280Z weighs 2905 without me in it. Granted I have a LT1 V8 and a heavier 4L60E tranny but I am running FG bumpers. I don't know my HP, never had it on a dyno. But I know the weight and I just averaged 12.95 at DNI with 4 very consistent runs in the 12.90's. So according the that site: 1977 280Z LT1 3060#/325hp -12.95sec My LT1 is stock, has 115K miles with block huggers and a cold air intake. I doubt its producing 325 FWHP
