Many drive shafts have u_joints that are not designed to be replaced. Sounds like this is what you have. Use a cutting torch to cut out the cross.

The carb insulators(gasket/spacers) used to blow out. They would spit out part of the gasket causing a air(vacuum) leak. I used to use a dentists mirror to inspect the bottom of the insulators. Hope this helps.

The reason for the change to a 7/8" cylinder is that the stock master is to small and will not move enough fluid to move the clutch slave, and disengage the clutch.

Check to see if valves are hitting a piston. If you bolted the head down without checking the valve timing you may have interference from valves hitting the pistons. You may also have bent some valves when torquing it down!!

New pump should be available. I've never seen a rebuild kit for this application.
The oil is probably coming out of the pivot pin hole. You may be able seal it.with some epoxy or something similar.
