Hey guys, I have been working on my 240Z for some time now. I finally am getting it close to being done, and now I have a problem. Car is a 280 motor with a 5 speed, 300zx LSD differential that was redone using extra clutches bought here. I also have 280zx turbo cv's with Modern Motorsports adapters. I took my car out today for a short drive getting it ready for a trip to the office tomorrow. I have taken it out a few times before with one trip being a good 60 mile trip. Everything worked very well those times. Today was a different story, though. Today I took her out for a quick drive to get the oil circulating and warm the engine up. I was taking it easy shifting at low revs and just enjoying the car. The rear has a wine to it. I think the pinion bearing is bad. I didn't change it when I did the tear down and added clutches. Either that or the gears are not meshing correctly now. The drive was going well. I went a few miles on a state road just cruising. I turned right onto a side road and then made a left to turn around and go home. That is when i heard it. Plain as day a thump, thump, thump coming from the driver side rear. I finished the turn around and then pulled to the side of the road. I checked under the rear to see what was the mater. I was expecting to see the half shaft in two pieces or the exhaust touching the shaft somewhere. Nothing. I decided to drive slow and get her home. It seemed like it was going well till I had to turn left onto my road. Then I heard it again. Thump, thump. But I made two other lefts with no noise. I pulled the car into the garage and jacked the back end up. Nothing. Nothing loose, nothing broken, nothing touching. I am really at a loss here. Do the cv's hang up when they are stock length? Could it be something in the rear? I was thinking maybe the LSD acting up. I haven't driven it in a couple of months. From a visual inspection I see nothing. If you have any ideas, let me know. I am at a loss. I really thought I had this thing ready for the road. Now I am thinking I am running into another big problem. Please let me know what you think it might be. I am really trying to get this car on the road and put some miles on it. It's too fun of a car to have sitting in the garage. Thanks. Here is a quick pic of how the car looks now.

Hey guys, I need to see if anyone has a E brake setup for Wilwood brakes. I didn't get in on the group buy from Australia and now am wondering what I can do to get this thing inspected. I know my guy would probably put a sticker on it anyway, but would like to have the set up for it regardless. I really don't want to put the line lock on for brakes if I don't have to. Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to me guys. I would really like to see some shots of these motors with the valve cover taken off. I've driving all over the NE here seeing engines with wiped cams, timing chains with 2" of slack in them, etc. These were all supposed to be ready to run. I don't think any of these guys knew their motors were bad, but they never took the covers off to see what was going on. Sorry if this is a hassle, but it just saves the seller and buyer some time, because the valve cover is coming off when I show up. Not trying to be a jerk, just up front and honest. I need a motor that is going to be ready to go with out a major rebuild. Thanks.

Ok, guys. Still looking. Cygnusx1 I am sending you a PM. Really just need a motor, and one that is ready to go. I have been looking at motors, but they are all shot. Let me know what you have. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply guys. I am talking with my friend about your stuff.

Hey guys, A friend of mine is looking for a complete motor, and a transmission. The motor can be carb or fuel injected. We would prefer a 5 speed but willing to take 4 speeds, as well. If anyone has anything in the NE ( We live in Pa, but are willing to travel) let me know. We are trying to get this car running pretty quickly, so looking for something that doesn't need a complete rebuild right off that bat. Thanks for the help.

I have a quick question. I have tried to find the answer but I might be missing it, or maybe it isn't there. When you guys are cutting the front, are you just leaving a bare, sharp edge? I am guessing you are, but I figured I would ask. I was thinking of putting some sort of plastic trim piece on to cover the sharp edge, or even leaving a little extra to roll up and hammer flat against the body. That seems like it would be a whole lot of work, though. Thanks for the help guys.

I am anxious to hear how this thing runs on the track. I would love to see some car footage (in car). I am betting this thing corners like it is on rails.
-
Wow, those tires look HUGE! Do you think you have enough body cut for them to clear? I am getting ready to cut into my body panels and have been reading your how to. Great #'s, sounds like that motor will get you into the 12's easily.

Great video. I used to love watching these guys fly around the track. It was neat watching some Mekur's going around the track, too. I forgot about them.

Buell really upped the anty with this bike. They got tired of heavy slow accelerating Harley motors and wanted a fast, reliable motor. In comes the Rotax. They are really good motors and Aprilla has been using them for quite a while. I kinda like the looks since they are soooooo different than everyone else. Tell your brother to enjoy.

Thanks for the help guys. I got it fixed. Not with out a lot more work than it needed. The clip really held it together. Now I am trying to figure out which bearing is making noise.

Hey guys, I figured I would ask here since I can't find anything elsewhere on the net. I am doing the passenger side axle on the wifes Kia Sedona. I got the outer part of the shaft out easy enough. The inner part of the axle goes to an intermediate axle that then goes to the diff. The axle meets the intermediate axle at center bearing bracket. I can not for the life of me pull the axle out of this bracket. I have heard that the stock shaft has a clip that holds it together. If anyone here has an idea how to get this apart I am all ears. I am running out of ideas, and don't want to pull the intermediate axle out, since this will mean the fluid will all drain out (and I don't know if that would help me at all). I am getting to the point where I think I need a come-along to get this thing apart. Here is a schematic for you guys to look at to see what I talking about. Thanks for your help.

If that pic of the snake is what you are getting in your house, then those are just ribbon snakes. They never get that big. I think 20" or so but never thinker than a pinkie. They only eat bugs and small frogs, etc. They are harmless.

The difference between Synthetic and full synthetic is that a synthetic oil is mineral based with modifiers in it so it can be called synthetic. An example of this would be Mobil 1 or Castrol (remember a few years ago Mobil sued Castrol for this). A Full synthetic oil is one that came from a synthetic base, and is not mineral based at all. An example of this would be Mobil 1 extended life, or Amsoil.

Wow, car looks great Phil. Nice choice on color. I am anxious to see the car when we are getting some action videos.

Hey, I've seen enough guys hauling a** in those to not call them girlie cars. That car should be a ton of fun as is, if you want it to go faster there are more than enough motor swaps for that car. Let us know how you like it. I am betting that you will like it plenty as is. I wish I could fit in them, but at 6'4" there just isn't enough room.

I used a needle scaler to do the entire underside of my 280 Z. For the most part it worked really well. There were some spots it was still gooey so I still had to scrape some off, but it really did a nice job of prepping the underside for POR-15. Make sure you get some ear plugs, they are LOUD!

Cockerstar's first adventure into diy painting

It doesn't look too bad to me. I see something funky going on in the one corner but that is it. I think you are some wet sanding away to having something decent and shiny. -

Brawndo! That's the name of the stuff. Brawndo it's got what plants crave. You drink water?! Like out of a toilet?! Ha! I'm so glad someone got my reference. Sometimes I think I am the only person who saw that movie. I thought it was hilarious. -

I can not believe that you guys made it to one minute. Holy Idiocracy! Man that movie by Mike Judd is starting to come true. If I could get a hyperbolic chamber and sleep for a couple hundred years I would be the smartest man on earth. I think they should put Gatorade on plants because it's got electrolytes and stuff. -
Here are some shots from the previous owners of the car. Then a shot of the car when I got it done before Z days. It is getting ready to be down again for a triple carb set up. Hopefully, not for long.

Here is a story for you guys. My wife's mini van got hit in the rear passenger quarter and I have meaning to repair it for awhile. I finally got the paint I needed so I pulled the dent. It looked like swiss cheese after getting it pulled satisfactorily, so I decided to weld in the holes. I made sure the area was clear (or so I thought) and began to weld up the holes. My new Lincoln 180 was doing a perfect job and making it easy. I just finished the third hole and I noticed a glow. I bend down and look in the holes and see a little fire. Luckily I was doing this at night, or I am not sure I would have noticed this. I go into panic mode and start yelling "Hun, Hun your car is on fire!". Sher opens the hatch thinking we will have to do something from the inside. I then remember the fire extinguisher I have in the garage. I grab it pull the pin and give it a quick burst on the outside panel. The fire is out immediately. Crisis averted. I really thought I burnt her car up. There must be some sound deadner that I couldn't see that started the fire. I decided welding was not an option after that, so I just used fiberglass reinforced filler instead. Not the way I wanted to fix it, but better than burning her car up with my garage. Now I need to get the extinguisher recharged. I always have, at least, one in the garage and one in my kitchen. If you don't have one get one.
