Rear Lifting, wobble shudder? 1973 240z
PETEW replied to JSM's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The thing that is puzzling me is you said it goes away when it warms up. I would think you have a bad wheel bearing ( I had really beat up fronts and there wasn't a ton of movement in the wheels), or a shot U joint. I would think it has to be something that can heat up with use. Let us know if you figure it out. -
Nice find. I really like the Z31. There is plenty of power to be had in those motors, too. I have seen them running in the 12's with relative ease. Enjoy!
-
That is going to be one incredible car! I can not believe the amount of work you have into it so far. I am always amazed at the work some guys on here can do. I wish I had the skills you do. Great job!

There is someone using a 300zx turbo motor in a 280Z on here, I believe. But this is not a common swap (in a Z or ZX), so you would have to fab up stuff yourself. This would not be a bolt in situation. The 280zx turbo motor would be by far the easiest to do. The other nice thing is you can add things as you go and make more and more power. There are guys on here getting close to the 400RWHP mark with stock rebuild type motors (cast pistons and all), just bigger turbos, injectors, fuel management. Good luck with what you choose.

People are nuts anymore. Putting a bomb at a bank. I don't get it. What will that solve. Senseless violence, I just don't get it.

Bueller.........Bueller.....Anyone? I was afraid of this. Finding info on these pistons is impossible it seems. I don't know if they were designed with the p90 head in mind, or ........?

Hey guys. I bought 2003Z's 240Z 4 months ago and have been doing some mods to fit me a little better. I like the way the car performs right now but would like a little more power. Right now the car has a P90 head with a Stage 2 cam, Nissan Motorsports (Euro) Flat top pistons, header, 2.5 " exhaust, etc. I am looking at shaving the head or even buying a different head. Right now the car should have about 8.6-8.9 compression ratio depending what gasket is being used. I have the opportunity to buy a N42 head that has been worked on by Rebello. It has their cam in it, as well as springs, etc. The guy is asking a very fair price, especially considering what Rebello charges for port work. With a N42 head compression would go to 10-10.3, which I have heard can be used with 93 pump gas. My big problem is, I can't find any specs on these pistons and don't know if there will be clearance problems with the valves and pistons. I have heard that the pistons are truly domed pistons and take away about 1.81 cc from the chamber volume. I just don't know if I would have to take the pistons out and have valve reliefs cut in to do this. The engine is so fresh (less than 3k mi) that I don't think I want to go through this to do it. If anyone has any info on these pistons and what heads I can use with them, it would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks, again J. I owe you one. Let me know when you need something and I will be glad to try and help you out.

I also have a question. From what I have read here. To convert to the R180 to a r200 I need the Front crossmember, differential, Mustache bar, and half shafts. Since I have '73 240Z I don't need a longer driveshaft and my transverse link should work with the R200, if I have read correctly. How about the front balancer? Can I use the one from the R180 or do I need the R200 version? Thanks.

Wow! That would be very nice of you. If you could do that for me that would be great. Those pieces look like they would work perfect. I have a 240 (like you) and there were a couple of pieces in Ben's kit that just made no sense. Two of the pieces are for the kick panel. I figured that out after looking something else up, and saw a piece that looked like that carpet piece. Why he would make carpet for the kick panel (where speakers are) makes no sense to me. I guess some people get rid of those speakers.
-
Do you have a 260 (like in your name)? I tried under my seats (in my 240) and there is no way they would ever fit. The pieces like J has pictures of would work for my 240, though. I might have to pull my seat out of the 280 to see if they fit under them, but I can't imagine it is that different.
-
Sorry J. I got your PM and your pics make sense to me. I am just trying to figure out why multiple places make these pieces. I would think there must be a reason to it. Maybe I am just trying to make sense where there is none. Who knows. I think I am going to try and duplicate your pictures, but I need to get dimensions for the carpet maker before he can do anything. Thanks, again.

Here is a pic of a carpet kit from ClassicDatsun. The pieces that I have circled, where do they go, and how do they go in? I have a similar piece with my carpet kit and I can not figure out how it goes in the car. If you have pics in your car that would be great. Thanks.

J. Soileau the patterns you show under your seat area and behind it, are they different in the original pictures than you show later on in the assembled pics? My set that I have looks like the first pic all laid out flat, and I can't figure out how they are supposed to lay, and your assembled pics look very different to me. If you could help out it would be great. Thanks.

I love the sound of that car! I think I saw a video where he bins that car, though. It wasn't bad, but that is a nice car to hit anything.

Post your "MacGyver" stories...(doesn't have to be car related)
PETEW replied to hughdogz's topic in Non Tech Board
Me and the friends went out for a night of bowling and drinking . It was a BYOB bowling place, so 3 cases for 4 guys should be enough. I wasn't drinking since I was the designated driver (I maybe had 2 all night) so it was really 3 guys drinking. Needless to say, they all got really smashed and I was the only sober one of the group. Luckily they are all entertaining drunks , and everyone was enjoying watching them make asses out of themselves. Well, except for the Puerto Rican guy next to us who didn't know how to bowl and threw the ball backwards almost hitting his friends. It was funny, but no one else was laughing; no one but the three drunks next to them. He comes up to my one buddy and says " You think that is funny." My friends reply, while laughing is "Yeah, hilarious!" At that point I thought it would be best to get them out of there quickly. All four of us get into my 1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z Shelby model (which was a very tight fit mind you since we are all over 6' and in the 200 to 200+ range) and head for home. Everything was going fine when suddenly the car goes dead. I still have lights, and other electrical but no engine. I pull the car to the side of the road, and get ready to go out. I am not anxious about doing road side work in the cold fall weather and it is starting to mist now. I tell the guys to hold on and I will see what I can do. I must say that this car belonged to one of the guys before and I bought it from him when I went to college. It was cheap, and decent looking so I got it. Needless to say the other two guys were riding him like a cheap rent a mule. Telling him he "Sold me a piece of junk" and "How could he do that to me." I decided to go out and see what I could do for his sake and mine. Well I popped the hood of the car and started looking in the dark. The car would crank over but it wouldn't start. I knew I was looking at electrical or fuel related issues, but which one. I couldn't see anything on the country road in the dark, and no flashlights. Suddenly, I saw the problem. The stupid cap cam off of the coil of the car, and was fixed just like that. Hey, I never said I was Mcgyver, but you would have thought I was when I got in the car. Nothing like 3 stupid drunks to give you a nice ego boost. I got all the "Man Pete, you are the man!" and "How did you figure that out!" all the way home. So there you have it. In drunk eyes I am the man! -
You say it's your birthday! Duh na na na na na! It's my birthday too, Yeah!! Sorry had to do it. Happy Birthday, and many happy wishes!

need an hurricane emergency power generator
PETEW replied to grumpyvette's topic in Fabrication / Welding
Wow! 45 K Watts. What are you running off of that? When I was looking at whole house systems they were talking about 20 as the norm. 45 is a light industrial use generator. That thing must be huge! How long does a tank of propane last you with the 6 cylinder? -
Thanks guys. I am just worried that matching that color is going to be near impossible. It looks like Pony (I think that's what they call it) from SEM is close. I just wonder how close. Guess I'll be a guinea pig.
-
The bulk pack must have changed. If you look it up now it is a box with 9 4sq ft sheets (or 36 sq ft). That is why I didn't go with them. I would have needed 2 boxes to match what I got and one box is the same cost as the roll I got.

funny VIDEOs Chris and I stuck on the side of the road

You better knock on some wood after saying that! -
Just like the title says I need to buy a overhead trim piece for my car but they only come in black. I was wondering if anyone painted interior pieces with any success, and what they used. I have looked at the SEM site and they have Palomino which looks close, but.......will it work? Hopefully someone has some experience with this, since no one has Datsun butterscotch interior paint. Thanks.

I think I should be ok with one roll. It is 62.5 sq ft. I think the Dynamat bulk pack is only 30 sq ft. Did you guys leave the old sound deadening in, or did you strip it out. I would like to leave it in, unless it won't stay because of it. Thanks.

I am going to buy a roll of Raamat (which happens to be 62.5 sq ft). Is this enough for the entire car> I did a search but no one ever really said what it took to do a Z. I also would like to know how you guys did your doors. The RaaMaudio site show coating the inside of the door (the skin) and then the inside panel of the door (where the vinyl panel attaches). If you attach to the panel is it hard to put the vinyl panel back on? Thanks for the help. Another new adventure with the Z.
