  1. Good to hear you're keeping it. Sounds good, but surprisingly quiet!
  2. I've already swapped my Jeep with my DD since the barn I was keeping my DD in is pretty flimsy. We had a pretty good storm here a few weeks ago that took down a few trees, and after that storm I noticed the door to that barn stopped latching! Gonna prep our generator Saturday, and we should be fine otherwise.
  3. I know the one you're talking about. I couldn't find it in there, but it's somewhere in this thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/87272-post-pics-of-your-zs-here/
  4. I don't know if it's a problem on the S130, but I expect he'd open the hood and check the battery tray for rust before he bought it... no excuse here, IMO.
  5. With cars like this, I think it's your responsibility to make sure everything is in order. Also, I'd have to imagine you had the hood open at some point, I don't see how you have possibly missed something like that. Sorry, but I think this one is your fault.
  6. I'm thinking the L20 on the transmission is referring to the fact it was originally mated to an L20. Not sure. Also, the paint looks good in the video. Is it actually in good condition? Would be really cool to have original paint on a car like that.
  7. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?40659-First-time-Z-owner/ Here's the link... I think.
  8. A free early, all original, running 240Z? That is a steal. I hope you take care of it. Based on your location, I'm guessing it's also pretty solid. I think that car is best left original.
  9. I hate to rain on your parade, but that car looks pretty far gone. I think you might be better off with a new shell entirely.
  10. Found this video of our own Darius posted on another forum.
  11. I am glad to see this enforced. I might add, if you use photobucket, you can set it to automatically resize them to 1024x768 when you upload photos. Makes posting and resizing photos much, much easier IMO. Other photo hosts may have an option as well, but I haven't tried them.
  12. I'm not sure, but I think you're going to have to use a hammer to shape/stretch the metal into shape. Or just get one from a parts car. I have a feeling you're going to find a lot more rust than just what you see though...
  13. Are you talking about the "doubler" on the frame rail that seems to always rust out?
  14. Between Ironman's LS1 280z and your 260Z, this was not a good week for Z cars. Sorry to hear, but glad everyone is okay.
  15. I think my floors alone have more rust than your entire car . Mind you, my floors are the least of my worries. I've got rust in the firewall seam, C pillars, A pillars, floors, rockers, doglegs, spare tire well, rear hatch, roll pan, driver's rear wheel well, a random seam under the car, and a few other small miscellaneous spots. I get what you mean about the pride of having built it yourself, but there is a point where there is simply too much rust. All three of my projects, two of which are Z cars, are pretty close to qualifying. I really do not have the patience to spend hours and hours and hours going after every little hole my car has. I'd like to drive it before I'm old. And that's pretty much the reality of a sub-$1000 car on the east coast.
  16. You could keep the exterior and interior of the car stock and simply swap the engine. I think the RB motors just about bolt in anyhow, so you could go back to the L24 whenever you want. If you have the room, just keep the L24 on a stand.
  17. Ducer, the Z market where we are is absolutely nothing like the market where you are. A $700 Z here would be a parts car, or a half-complete rust bucket. Nearly every car here has rust, and as a result, there's a price premium for one without. And dealing with rust I wouldn't consider easy. Not what I've got, anyway.
  18. For the fuel issue, you could put a hatch in your hatch. That is, you could put a small door in the lower portion (say, a 6"x6" door) and run the fuel filler neck to there. I think that would make refueling a lot easier, and you can take off the entire hatch (and wing?) only when you need to. Just a thought.
  19. What's your budget like? Could just farm that one bit of work out to a shop. BTW, you should check that car over more carefully. Rust hides. For example, when I bought my 240z, I thought it needed a few small floor patches, dog legs, and the hatch sill. In reality, it's got about twice that, at least.
  20. That '72 looks like a great start if it's like he says. Wish it was around when I was in the market.
  21. Looks like a nice project to start with. What are your plans for it? Also, how bout some more info on the '70?
  22. I've heard that FG or CF fenders don't drop much weight.
