  1. Good idea. We could have regional classifications too. Fastest overall and fastest in each region. That would add motivation to those who know they can't catch scottie . Fastest cars can claim it in their sig. Only problem is it's impossible to verify what type of gas is being used.
  2. Acording to Honsowetz's book, .080" is the maximum without sonic testing.
  3. Do you have a boost gauge hooked up verifying you're getting boost? Shouldn't feel slow at all even at stock boost level. Check all the usual stuff like timing, plugs, vacuum leaks, etc. You may have to get some electrical contact cleaner and clean all your connection especially at the AFM and ECU connectors. Made a huge difference on the way my car drove.
  4. So you just swapped the old distributor with a new one and it fired up? I'm having the same type of problem right now. Car ran fine then just died and I couldn't get it to fire. I suspected it might be the distributor or crank angle sensor cause it's probably the only thing I didn't test. Is there any wat to tet the CAS?
  5. I'm going to be helping a friend who wants to turbo his SC300. Does anyone know any good sites for Lexus turbo swaps?
  6. Check this out. This guy rents 70-83 Z cars. http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2004/March/22/biz/stories/01biz.htm
  7. I doubt it's a fuel problem. Car was running fine before it decided to die. I can smell the fuel when cranking and when I pulled the plugs there was gas on it.
  8. Trying to fire up my 240 with a 83 L28et and I'm not getting any spark. I went through the FSM and checked the ground circuits and all the components I could the ECU connector. Everything checks out except the resistance readings on the AFM are really low. I get 12V at the ignitor but it drops to like 6V during cranking. Jumped the coil straight to the battery and there was spark but the car did not start. Would a bad AFM or bad CAS/distributor cause the engine not to start? I know there is fuel. The fuel pump turns on and I'm getting good pressure.
  9. I'm pretty sure it would fit with 40mm adapters all around. That would push them out another .39" for clearance.
  10. I put the CRX seats in my 71. They do feel good and are very supportive. I just made some adapter plates to mount the stock sliders to the crx seats. They do sit about an inch higher than stock so if you are over 6' tall you may want to take that into consideration. I didn't have any problems with the width. I just left off the plasic covers where the recline handle is.
  11. Are you sure you want to retire the GNZ before getting that 9 second pass . I completely understand your position though. I thought about the same thing a few times but I just can't bring myself to abandon the Z before having it tuned exactly how I want it.
  12. Is that the black/white going into the ignitor or out to the coil. I know the coil is not seeing 12V while cranking.
  13. Mine are exactly the same. +15 offset. Got them on ebay too from a guy in Japan. He had a very high feedback and sold a lot of car parts shipped from Japan so I wasn't worried. They would have been shipped to my door but I couldn't wait the extra 2 or 3 days so I picked up the paperwork from the shipping company, took it to customs to sign off, then picked them up at american airlines. Sounds like a lot of work but they were all close to each other. I think I've seen the center caps for sale once over the past two or three years but you're right. I hardley ever see them with the caps on.
  14. So you were the one that outbidded me for that set . Any idea where we can get center caps?
  15. I hope it is a electrical problem but everything else electrical works. I should have pulled the plugs earlier but I was convinced the engine needed to be pulled. I'll see if my friend can check that for me since I had the car towed to my parents house. Icice9?
  16. I did replace the negative battery cable as it had some corrosion on it and I charged the battery. Not sure if condensation would be a problem cause it's been sitting a few days but I'll check it out.
  17. Earlier this week my turbo Z died on me. I just drove to the gas station put some gas in and went through the drive thru car wash (I was in a hurry ). On the way home the car just died after driving just half a block and I couldn't get the car restarted. The engine would crank 2 or three times then stop. Eventually it would not even turn over. I thought it might be the starter so I changed it with a new one and got the same results. Tried starting it with jumper cables also but same thing. You could hear the solonoid pop out and try and turn the engine but it can't. Checked the timing chain and it's fine. What could cause the engine to seize like that? I only drove about a mile and wasn't driving hard at all. No loud mechanical sounds when the engine died and no warning signs. Car is not low on oil. My plan is to get a junkyard engine and swap it in to get me on the road again then tear down my current engine to see what the hell happened.
  18. Ross, I sent you a email for a quote but I didn't hear back from you. I'll send you a PM.
  19. Just got tires on them the other day. I was about to put them on the Z and can you believe my starter died (I hope it's just my starter). So once I swap the starter the wats go on and I'll take a few pics. I got a decent deal for the wheels considering it was shipped from Japan. 15x7 with 225/50/15 Yokohama AVS ES100s for a little over $1100.
  20. Backspace is the distance from the inboard rim edge to the mounting surface. For a 8" wide rim, 0 offset would be 4" backspace. A 8" wide rim with 32mm offset would be 4" + 1.26" = 5.26" backspace. You don't divide the offset by 2.
  21. If it were me, I would go with the SC300. I've been wanting one of these for a while too. The MR2 is nice but it is too similar to the Z. The SC300 is more of a luxo grand tourer but it does share a lot of parts with the supra. The back seats may come in handy with the ladies also
  22. 15x7 Watanabe RS-8s. Can't wait to get some tires and mount these suckers.
  23. Those are pretty good numbers there despite the leak. What kind of mods do you have?
  24. I think you will be fine with the pay scale. Because bay area has a unique housing market, lenders are a little more lenient and creative to get people in homes. A lot of cities may also have home buying programs for police officers like they do for teachers. I just bought my first home with 100% financing so I will have cash reserves and money for furniture. I don't have to pay PMI either. I would defenitly recomend buying if you can over renting for the tax benefit. Eating out will cost about the same. Typically $40 - $80 for two depending on your appetite . As long as you watch you budget for the first few months and adjust accordingly you will be fine.
