  1. I agree. look good, but the mouth is too big. Maybe a split grill, or like drax says, a bumper. Tim
  2. Depending on the year of the block. The Regs say that it HAS to be from the same class of vehicle. The Feds put SUVs and compact trucks in the "Truck" category. The referees do realise that SBC blocks are generally the same, but they will look at the heads, and emissions control equipment. On later years, the truck and car engines are vastly different, so that won't work. Best bet would be to call (or better yet, drop by in person) and talk to the ref. Let him know what you want to do and see what he says. These guys are generally VERY sharp and really know their stuff. Tim
  3. I think it's a good idea. Try the smaller shops first. The larger shops tend to be too busy to mess with it. Most smaller shops will jump at the 'free labor', even if it's just sweeping up etc. Don't get discouraged if the first few shops that you ask turn you down. Someone will take you up on the offer. Tim
  4. I would hessitate to fill all of them. Some of them come in handy for holding various things in the bay (like overflow bottles etc). I went the long way around. I fit the engine, made all the brackets i could think i needed, then took everything out again and filled the holes. Tim
  5. T3s on a LT1 are too small. You will be restricting the exhaust terribly...it'll be a big heat pump. Tim
  6. Yes, it has been done. Someone at the last MSA show had one in 99% completion. Major hood clearance problems...tall as hell motor. Do a search and you'll find the pictures that Owen posted. Tim
  7. Try a search. this topic has come up more than a few times. Tim
  8. Scott, Is that a dent in the rear flare, or an optical illusion? Man I love those fat ol' meats on that car!! Tim
  9. Oh No...I can see it now. "Type R" stickers on Early Z cars!! That was a fascinating glimpse into the past, thanks fot the tour Alan!!! Tim
  10. My 83 ZXT used to do that sometimes too. I kinda assumed that maybe the piston to bore clearance on the turbo motors are bigger, thus when cold there is a bit of piston slap? Don't really know... Tim
  11. Why not just contact the publisher of HotRod and order a back issue of that month's magazine? It's only $6 Tim
  12. Dale, It could be that the flexing of the firewall is making the pushrod push off center into the master, which would cause a wear pattern on one side of the cylinder, then it will eventually leak. I noticed that flexing on my old 240, so when prepping the engine bay on my LT1Z, I welded all around the reinforcement plate that is spot welded on the enginebay side of the firewall in teh brake/clutch/steering area. The spot welds didn't seem to give it much rigidity. Don't know if welding it up solved it, but i will see if any paint starts to crack there when the car is on the road. Tim
  13. Sure' date=' it's easy. Eat big, lift big, and sleep big. Drink lots of whole milk, and make plenty of trips to the buffet. [/quote'] Juice!! It's NAAWZ for the body!! Been there, done that, loved it!! Used to be a competitive BB...that was until I blew out 3 tendons in my left knee!! It was great fun, but I think the hardest part for me was eating enough!! 6 Meals a day...for example...lunch consisted of a whole chicken, can of tuna, bowl of rice and 2 baked potatoes...plus all the 'supplements'. I got to the point where I would throw it all in a blender (all of the above), and then just drink it. That was gross, but more convenieint.... I too ballooned in the last few years. I used to be 5'11" and 225lbs....but that was with about 6% bodyfat. I then got to 230lbs with 'a lot more' bodyfat. In the past three months I've gotten down to 187lbs!! Thanks Dr. Atkins!! BTW...even at my heaviest, the Z was a comfortable car. Tim
  14. Mark, Is it too late to cut out the seat brace and set it back a few inches? It might be worth the effort to make the car comfortable to drive, esp. with your long frame. Tim
  15. Kinda looks like the wing configuration of the plane that John Denver killed himself in (experimental).....that guy better be careful!! Tim
  16. I have 2 Q-Jets sitting in my garage off of 69-71 chevy 350 trucks. Both worked well when i took them off 3 years ago. Anyone want them? I put a 750 DP holley on my truck. Tim
  17. Not much more than any other engine. Looks like the SC has a piggy back fuel control unit, and it has been running in a car already, so I would drop it in and go. TIm
  18. How tall are you Mark? With my seat brace back 2 inches, I have plenty of room. The door brace is going to make entry and exit a total PITA (probably literally), but it's not a daily driver, so I'm not worried about it. Tim
  19. Looks like a good package. Tim
  20. Here are a couple of mine: Go here if you want to see bigger pics. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/tim_hep/lst?.dir=/Zcar+Pictures&.view=t Click on 'view all' and scroll to bottom Tim
  21. I found that too when I mocked up my rollcage. I had to space the seat brace back by 2 inches. I'm 5'11". It's also a factor of the angle of the seat back of my Corbeaus. Tim
  22. Make sure that the primer is wet sanded smooth (400-600 grit), and all scratch marks are covered (spot putty). Then a single coat of sealer. Tim
  23. So, chopping the top, frenching the headlights, channelling the body over the frame, etc. on a '49 Merc does not make the car a rod? I think if you 'bolt on/stick on' to the beginning of that sentence, then it would be more accurate? Tim
