  1. TZ...You Da Man!!!! I think I will get a new clutch kit and slap it back together and see how it goes. I'm guessing that who ever put it in just slapped it together and twisted the clutch plate since two of the clutch plate springs are loose. I'll have it back together tomorrow and I'll let you know if it is better. Larry, I wish you hadn't mentioned chipped tooth. I don't want to hear that!!!! Thanks Yo and Doug! Tim
  2. Thanks Doug for the info, and for adding in some more info on the edit. One more thing..do you know the torque specs on the flywheel and pressure plate bolts? I guess I need to get a FSM for this bloody thing!! Thanks again, Tim
  3. The flywheel 'feels' very smooth, but this obviously doesn't tell if the surface is warped. I drained the oil from the 'box before I pulled the driveshaft out and it cam out like honey....very obviously brand new oil!! Question: Is the ZXT tranny supposed to use regular gear oil or ATF like the newer type trannies? If I do pull the flywheel, can I replace the rear main without dropping the pan? Thanks for the help guys....I'm much more comfortable with SBCs..... TIm
  4. Opinions please: I dropped the gearbox on the 83 ZXT that I got on Sunday. The clutch was shuddering badly, so I assumed one of two things (or both): 1. The clutch disc was F'ed 2. There was oil or brake fluid on the lining. Well, pulled the clutch and the friction surface looks very new. I can still see remnants of the yellow part number lettering on the friction surface. A couple (2) of the little springs in the center of the friction disc are loose and can be rattled a little back and forth. There is no fluid on the flywheel or friction surface. The slave cylinder looks old, but does not appear to be leaking. I will probably get a new clutch kit (Valeo) since I have everything out, but do y'all think that will solve the problem? Help....I wanna drive this damn thing. Thanks, Tim
  5. That is wayyyy funny. Some people have way to much time on their hands. Tim
  6. I also want a MS, but it looks like March or later before they get another group buy going. Can someone post if they catch wind of a group buy and we miss it?!?! Thanks, Tim
  7. I believe that if you are driving a Viper, Vette, Ferarri, Lambo etc, you are held to a higher standard of ability purely because most of us peeons who can't afford that type of vehicle are just waiting for the 'wheels to fall' so that we can manifest our jealousy in the inevitable ridicule. I kinda feel sorry for the guy, but it seems somewhat apparent that driving is not in his blood. To a certain degree, car contol cannot be learned, it is instinctual, or natural to some people. Just look at the likes of Juan Manuel Fangio, Ayrton Senna, Nikki Lauda or Michael Schumaker. Those guys could get into anything with wheels and drive circles around anyone. $$$$ + Car + Human = $$$$ + Car + Human + talent = Just ranting 2c worth. Tim

    rochester?

I have 2, both were working when I pulled the engine 2 years ago, and have in a closet in my garage ever since. drop me a line. Tim
  9. TZ... Ya can't take it with you!!!1 Might as well spend my son's inheritance now!! LOL BTW, I emailed them asking if I could pick up instead of paying for shipping, and where the parts are made. They said no problem picking up, but the parts are some no name brand stuff made in Korea. I think not!!! Tim
  10. clutch kit on ebay. They have lots of good feedback, but the few bad ones they have worry me. The price looks very good. Tim
  11. Cool man. I got a couple of those (not Zs, but non-descript little racing cars) from the LA Auto show. My kid just wouldn't let me pass the booth!!! They have tiny little motors and use little electro magnets to steer (I stripped one to see if I could hop it up!!). Tim
  12. TZ, There is no way I'm going to get her out of her nice plush Volvo and into a 30 year old tin can. She won't even drive with me in the Z. Maybe it had something to do with the 4 wheel drifting the first time I took her out in it
  13. Larry, Ya know, I'm toying with the idea of dropping the Turbo motor into the 240 daily driver and then dropping a LT1/T56 into the ZX. The ZX has T-tops and electric everything, so it will be a nice comfy daily driver......Man, so many projects so little time . And on top of all of that, I recently had a look at a Opel GT (1970). I can pick it up for $300 or so......I may get moved from the sofa to the garage!! Tim
  14. Jeremy, AFAIK, minimum orders only apply to the small stuff like spade terminals etc. I have ordered individual stuff from them several times though their website. Although, I bought most of my connectors (male and female spade type) from Home Depot which are decent quality anyway. Tim
  15. Jeremy, Get a catalogue from Waytek Wire (Waytekwire.com). They will have everything you could possibly need, for very good prices. They ship very quickly too. If you are running a nice thick gauge wire, then one is ok for the headlights (2 if you include the high beams). If you want higher amperage protection from the battery, maybe consider a circuit breaker. you can get them in manual reset, or automatic reset, and they are designed for higher loads than fuses, and you'll have a bigger choice of amp loads. I am running 12 relays in my LT1 Conversion 240Z. Tim
  16. Well this make three Zs. I'm actually surprised that I'm not sleeping on the sofa Just picked up a 1983 ZX Turbo for $700, with recent smog, apparently a rebuilt turbo and receipts for thousands in repairs and maintenance. 2 seater and T-Tops, with the talking digital dash doohikey, electric windows, mirrors, cruise (all work great). Needs a coat of paint, but no real bodywork. Needs a clutch and likely some attention to the brakes, but goes like a bat out of hell! Guess I'll have to start hitting the search the search engine for hop up options Anyone weant to save me some time, feel free to post some info on JY upgrades..... Thank, Tim
  17. I'd like to see the Bride, or Prom date climbing into that!! Iguess that would be one way to inspect the 'goods' before you get 'em Tim
  18. Matt, I have several of their tools (Chicago) and have had no problems over the years. Tim
  19. Owen.....promises, promises Tim
  20. Steve, As mentioned above, check to see if the output of your thermostat housing has a ridge, or flange for the rad. hose to bite against. The cheaper ones sometimes don't and with the smoothness of the chrome, the clamp may not be able to hold it on tight enough. Maybe just pick one up from a JY to try the theory. it won't cost you much at all. Tim
  21. Dude, Try moving from one country to another.....Now THAT'S a PITA!! Have to get rid of all the electrical stuff (TVs VCRs, Stereos, Tools etc), because USA uses different current!!, not to mention cars!! I feel your pain Tim
  22. That looks really clean!! Beautiful engine bay and interior!! Some pics of the car outside in natural light would be nice!! Sweet!! Tim
