  1. Denny, 87 was the 'next generation' box. Yes it was more than just the input shaft, it was the internals too, but the input shaft splines are the easiest way to recognize the older ones. The newer ones had a 30 spline shaft.... Tim
  2. see response in the drivetrain post.
  3. This is the earlier 'weak' version of the 700R4. In 1987 the input shaft was beefed up. These ones were apparently pretty troublesome. I would say leave it alone, or see how much it would cost you to upgrade it. Tim
  4. TZ, naw not painted yet, but I did shoot primer on the driver's side fender and headlight bucket (fender was black..new panel with factory primer, and headlight bucket was yellow), and where the side molding 'clips' were ground off (which made it look like I did a run through South Central LA at midnight and got sprayed with 9mm rounds) I taped off a 3 inch stripe and shot primer. Looks better now, but still like a project car. Not too worried though. This car drives like it has 30,000 miles on it, not 170,000 miles, and since I replaced the Clutch, it's smooth as silk!! Now to install the IC, up the boost, do the 240sx tb conversion etc etc..... I also found a brand new looking turbo at the JY and paid $90 for it. It was so clean, not even an oily fingerprint on it!!!! Owen helped me pull it...he was amazed too. I think I will do a blowthrough system on the 240/weber carbed motor, and really jack up the jetting. Tim
  5. TZ....you are just a tad off-center aren't you Tim
  6. Dave, You're absolutely correct! I bet it's in the same category of Mobile home parks and tornados!!! Tim
  7. Here are my jetting specs: Primary fuel:140 Secondary fuel: 135 Primary Emulsion tube: F50 Secondary Emulsion tube: F6 Primary Air: 160 Secondary Air: 165 pump jet: 50 Venturi 3.5 I have used an industrial (read very accurate) A/F ratio meter with wide band O2 sensor and it is running lean (about 17:1) while cruising. I did manage to get the idle A/F ratio perfect, but need to play with the jetting to richen up the primaries. HTH. Tim
  8. Hmmmm....Something looks familiar! U da man Mark....sweet ride man!! Tim
  9. I wanted to ressurect this post for two reasons: 1. I saw an intercooler (saab) today at the JY. Is it worth picking up? 2. I would still like to see the X19 bumper conversion. Any chances for pictures DAW? And some details on how well the IC works? Thanks, Tim
  10. Check out this post by mike Kelly from a year ago: Side mirrors post Tim
  11. You've got no chance man.....I've put NAAWWWWWWWWZZ decals all over mine. It'll smoke anything now...unless of course you put a big @$$ fart pipe on your toy too!!!! Tim
  12. Len, I would love to know the same thing!! While I was pulling the gearbox on my new acquisition, I was looking at that 90 deg bend and shuddering at the design!!! Any chance of getting hooked up with one of those downpipes? Tim
  13. DAMN!!! Ya'll some brainy Mo-Fos!! Tim
  14. Grumpy, I did a web search using "swivel water neck" as the search words and had tons of hits. Check it out, you may find something better. Tim
  15. Doh, My bad!! Maybe if we get a group buy going we can get a price break....Jeff?.... Tim
  16. Mike, Or as some say:"Dumb ones never differ", but I like your saying better!! Tim
  17. How about this one: Or these: http://www.midfloridamotorsport Tim
  18. Again, Thanks guys...Y'all Rock Tim
  19. Ok, more: The parts store gave me a kit for the 2 seater ZXT, but it was too small (diameter). So they are delivering me the 2+2 kit. Is it possible that the larger clutch was OEM on the non 2+2? The input shaft has some play (up and down/side to side type play, not in and out). Is this normal? Thanks, Tim
  20. The spitfires, but in 4" back spacing. They are making the set special for me!!and at the same price!!!and no shipping charges (I can pick up)!!!Tim
  21. I'm on the phone to them right now!! Thanks Phil!!! Tim Well, I'm picking them up on Friday or Monday....They have to build them for me with a 4" BS instead of 3.5".
  22. So a few bottles of Redline ATF is in order? Can someone tell me the fluid capacity of the T-5? Sorry for all the mundane questions!! Tim
  23. Rick et al, Could the fact that the gearbox had gear oil in it instead of ATF have caused some of the problems that I am experiencing? The oil was obviously very new when I drained it, it still had that clear 'honey' appearance. What is going to be the best way to clean out all the gear oil? ==Fill with ATF, then change the fluid after a few miles ==flush with diesel fuel, then fill with ATF? Thanks, Tim BTW, I can only assume that this is the original tranny.
