  1. Mine is the charcoal metallic from a 2002 Toyota avalon. Similar to the above color, with more metallic in it.

  3. I'm using their pistons. I mean they're OK but not the best. If you're doing a factory rebuild than they will do alright. Overall their fitment was average, coming from Taiwan. The rings however seemed to be nice, and were produced in Japan.
  4. Do you get any popping? I have the XR700 on my car and it runs well. Bring it up to tdc and look through the shutter plate. The eye should be uncovered to shoot through the shutter, and at 5-10btdc (depending on what your initial timing is), the eye should just start to be viewable through the shutter. Also make sure that the cap and rotor are engaging at the ignition events as this was a problem I ran into as well. Hope this helps

  6. Engineering is the new business. That's why I went pre-med. There is no room left for innovation I feel. At my school it was just a bunch of cookie cutter engineers getting chucked out one after another. I felt that I was being shown how to fix other people's problems and pitch some meaningless idea to a bunch of accountants than actually doing something useful. With pre-med, it really is as much technical information and all that jazz as ME, you just have a chance to actually make something of yourself. ...At the cost of being poor, FOREVER.
  7. The T5 I liked much more than the Z tranny just because I thought it was much more simplistic to set up lash on. But it was a hugely different beast.

  12. I put it in 5th and had a plain driveshaft yoke sitting around. A big pipe went through that so I had a pair of 6 foot long bars doing my work for me. To Hold it still, I just re-bolted the front housing on temporarily so I could hang the tranny on the engine stand.

  18. I've seen shims that go between the block and head. They're designed to maintain the compression ratio after it's been decked. I would follow the directions and use copper-coat for your sealant.
  19. Both are nice, but I'd have the Savage. It's crazy accurate and the 308 I shout was surprisingly docile. You can even get one in 300WSM
  20. Probably an oil tanker, IIRC oil tankers prefer one giant motor to a whole battery of smaller ones as it is more efficient to do so. and look at that starter

  24. All about preference. I can see this quickly become a which is better thread, but when it boils down to it, it's all about what you know best and what you're most comfortable with. Getting the mounts back should be super easy provided they didn't hack up the tranny tunnel and even then the T5 would require a modified trans mount anyways (if you wanna go that route). I really like my L6 and with a light turbo it should give you comparable performace to a SBC. I just wouldn't go back to an L24, just because L28's are so plentiful relatively that it'd probably end up the same price. Past that it's preference. You can get a 4 barrel, EFI, Side-drafts on either motor so at this point just go with what you feel most comfortable with.
