  1. No chatter, added 1 or 2 shots of juice. Not sure I could hear it over the howl of that stupid solid diff mount and trashed companion/stub joints I have.
  2. I've got 200 rwhp and I really like my R200clsd. Shimmed the clutches and would shim more if I ever have the energy. Its a blast. "Power steering". How did I ever drive without it.
  3. Yes those MSA dampers are tight. Not proud, but not moving either! I want think the Total Seal rings helped with the results. I wouldn't use any other rings personally. Although Joe and Donna, owners of Total Sea,l are good friends with their MFG facility next door to mine. The dyno I went on is supposedly not very generous either. You are making a good choice with your Compression ratio. I think mine is a bit high. But nothing to really base this on.
  4. I shall say that I did mark the pulley very well and it never moved so I left well enough alone. That little clinking noise was very disheartening.
  5. Started a pre-hibernation inspection today. Too darn hot to drive this thing in summer. Pulled plugs; Just don't think I could ask for better than this from Triple Webers. Pulled cover and the cam looks the same as when I installed. Valves were right where I left them last time. Finally decided on the last few things I want to do to the car. Pull motor, replace rear main seal that drips a tiny bit, Install Arizona Zcar superlight flywheel. FInd a Vo7 crank and do that whole diddy Get a really stupid cam like I wanted to begin with Fix that thing I will never admit to with the front pulley Get MS3 with GSXR750 ITBs running. Open tranny and have a heart to heart with my rebuild Fix D/S leak Get R/T front diffy mount and melt down that horrendous ArizonaZcar solid mount. 280z 27 spline stubs Coilovers with Tokico Adjustables. Toyota fronts / Maxima rears GroupBuy wheels painted flat black with 275 rear Chop and stab ZGs Carpet inside Wire hour meter Fix Wideband Wake up.
  6. Megasquirt? Will you have an O2 sensor? Tj
  7. You have to be careful with Keith's Optical Float Checker as there are several places the slide can rest and cause mis-readings of a few millimeters. Keiths tool can be triggered by the high end of the miniscus on the sides of the well, or by the base, or by residual fuel clinging and cappilary action and a few other little things. I ended up going back to using a Micrometer which causes a twitch in the miniscus of the fuel when touched. Its just a PITA and frought with variables. When I saw you graph my though was filthy-pig-rich. Make sure the jets get seated properly in the base when you screw them in? I don't push them all the way into the carrier, just mount them slightly, then carefully screw in the carrier and let them push themselves into the final position ensuring they are seated to the carb body. Tj
  8. ScottB your post is Encouraging for me. I have a similar combo with DCOE40 and got similar rwhp peaking around 6800 My next venture was a planned upsize to 45s or Mikuni 44s or maybe GSXR ITB setup. Good to know there might be some power there. TJ
  9. Did the Ceramic top and teflon side on the M14 (Supercharged). If I recall doing 9 of them was maybe $300 bucks for both coatings and it just seemed like a neat thing to do. Probably all burned off in the first 2 hours.

    Headgasket

I used a FelPro on my rebuild because when I pulled the old beat-up motor apart the ancient FelPro gasket came off clean. That was a small pleasure. Probably has more to do with Prep that ZManco mentioned above than a lot of other things.
  11. Help to identify this 14" rim? Has 195-60-14 on it now. 12 spokes. 4x114.3 In an ideal world I would like to find 2 of these in 15+ diameter with a wild negative offset. Having a hard time nailing down the exact name.
  12. I am sure you and your engine guy already know, but adjust your timing cover to match the block if you have done shaving. At the last minute on my build I found a pristine lower timing cover I decided to use, but somebody had shaved it in the past and it leaked.
  13. I am now using a 160f T-stat and I drilled a small hole through it. This way I know for absolute certain that water is always circulating. Had a scare once with a stuck t-stat and a sensor that wasn't reading the true situation (meltdown).
  14. I think you would be best off by running the Triples with a known good distributor of ANY kind for a while prior to replacing the Dizzy. You want to reduce the number of variables until you have the Triples dialed in somewhat. I had my L24 dizzy recurved after I got my DCOE L28 up and running.
  15. The different ring gear fasteners have a different torque spec. You have the little or big ones? I recall it was something like 85 ish on my little bolt r200. I think the 12mm ones are quite a lot more. I wouldn't go over. My 10mm bolts felt piqued at the torque spec limit.
  16. I did the Precision Door Seal about 2 months ago and they were tight at first. Now about perfect.
  17. Summer kicking in here in Phoenix and I am about done with the Triples for summer. Need to tweak the float levels back down just a bit due to sloshing and idle changes turns (spilling into mains). Then open the last progression hole a bit and try to extend the progression just a teence more into the mains. Its just too darn hot for them here in summer even with all my heat shields.
  18. I've been driving the Z a lot more lately. I swear this motor with MAYBE 500 miles on it now really seems to be "Coming in". Its throaty and a little flat under 3000. Growling mean from 3000-4000 and from 4000 to 7000 is just plain screaming. I need to find some guys here in Phoenix that can take me to Speedworld for some drag racing (Virgin). Would be delighted to get into the 13s with 200 rwhp and a stripped chassis. The eternal debate: Old school N/A Classic. Turbo six of some sort. LSx V8 When I see an LsX in a classic car I just think- Oh, a v8. When I see a turbo motor I see a lot of work and tuning, but tons of creativity and engineering and power available (which I don't trust myself with). The old school NA motor L6 motor on a cold night just has a sound that makes people look and give the Pretty fun to drive.
  19. Xxxch I censored that one myself. Just testing
  20. The little muffler guy next to my shop is not there today so I will have to live through the "Cruise on Central" show with what I have. Will try some other combos tho.
  21. Had my Twice Pipes in for maybe a year now. Its kinda sedate actually. I wish the idle was a little crisper / poppier. But that would make the top end even louder. There is no missing it at WOT now. If I remove the glass-packs at the tips I wonder how obnoxious it would be? To me the sound is a little muffled. Slightly unnatural. I could always put them back on (After the big car show tonight...)
  22. Spent some quality time with a rattle can last night (I didn't feel like cleaning).
  23. The ratios on the 83 280zx tranny are perfect (or close to it). 1000x better than the early 5 speed. I have a 4.38 with little tires and the 83 5 speed. Its a little busy up till about 45mph then all done...
  24. My similar setup got almost 200 at the wheels. I dig those TBs. You put in a Wideband?
  25. Guess I should have measured before making a short halfshaft. The stock 240z halfshaft was not binding, in fact if had room to go in another 1/4". The newly cut and builtup half-shaft is verging on too short with 1/4" spare travel at max droop. I have pictures but they are rather embarrasing actually. Shorty half-shaft available to a good home. Switched to a different half-shaft anyways for newer u-joints.
