  1. Before you spend any money on a new t-stat, try this: Remove the upper radiator hose from radiator. Pour coolant down into engine (only when engine is cool). Fill completely then run up to temp again. It is really hard to get the air out of these engines but this seems to work. It worked for me and several others on this site. Good luck and let me know how it goes. Get used to answering the questions and making new friends. You'll love this swap when you get the bugs worked out. Sorry I can't help you with the guage issues as I used all the stock guages. Mike
  2. Crap, I was going to say "your mind"?- I grew up in the 70's.
  3. Great to hear you are still out there and the car is doing well. Did you put in the Textralia clutch? Mike
  4. I have the Tokico adjustables, lowered about 1 1/2 inch. Just put 18" wheels with 245/40's and 225/40's on my 78. No rubbing. Bartman went a lot bigger, but with some other mod's-coilovers rolled the fender lips. You might try searching as this question has been asked a million times. Mike
  5. Clive, Urethane rack bushings and steering couple will take that steering wheel shake away if your tires are balanced. Steering response will be much improved too. Oh yeah, Nice vid. Mike
  6. Axis makes the Wide Track in the 4X41/5 bolt pattern-no adapters needed. I had to use a 1/4" spacer in the front only because the z spindle is that much too long to fit under the center cap. Could have used the 9" rear but would have had to use a spacer and rolled the fender lip. Didn't want the spacer and didn't want to risk cracking the paint. For the guys with coil-overs, the 9" wheels would work really well. Mike
  7. Axis wide track 18X8's with 245/40's and 225/40's. Tried the 9's and could have made them work by rolling the fender lips and using spacers, but didn't want the spacers or cracked paint. These should be fine.
  8. I put a power brute in my 3.54 r200 with the stock cover some 14 years ago. Don't really drag race much, but used to autoX a lot. Made a big difference coming out of the corners, and no troubles on the street-unless it's wet. Both tires spinning makes it much easier to swap ends! Mike
  9. Looks really good Blown- you'll love the first drive. I'm investing in rubber stocks. Mike
  10. Loved the vid. Beautiful country and great roads. What more could you ask for. Mike
  11. Because of the giant smile on my face every time I turn the key. Because I can't drive it across town without getting a thumbs-up from someone I've never seen before. Because everytime I run to the store I have to answer a million questions and pop the hood for a new friend. Because with a little suspension work to go with the LS, the car is head and shoulders better than it was when new, and better, faster, and more fun than most new cars. Because I absolutely would not hesitate to drive it across the country and back. Because stepping on the loud pedal results in instant woodies. That's why! Mike
  12. I'm having way too much fun driving mine to want to sell it. Thats probably why its rare to see one for sale. Good luck Mike
  13. Miles, Very nice job on the swap, and the hood. I like it a lot. Mike
  14. Are you sure you have power to the coils? injectors?
  15. Its a crankcase breather tube. No coolant here!. Plugging it may cause problems. Mike
  16. All this cyber-porn, schwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.....
  17. I love open headers. Won't be long now til the smell of burning rubber is in the air. MIke
  18. Before you start ripping the dash out, check the plug connections in the passenger side footwell. They are very prone to corrosion due to being located right where a leaking heater core or heater valve leaks. PM to follow. Mike
  19. My 78-built 08/77 is #422435. You really need the title, car, and registration to match. Something is wrong here. Mike
  20. I'm getting around 17 around town which is really pretty good considering I only get to drive it usually 2-5 miles at a time, and like the way it sounds when I get on it. My tires are almost shot. I drove it on a short day trip, 240 miles, mostly on the freeway, 85-95 mph with several quick blasts well up over 100. Got 24.78 for the trip. I was happy with that. I never got that good with the L28 even on long trips. Mike
  21. Just my 2 cents about Tokico. I put illuminas and springs on my car in 1985. Two years ago I noticed that my rear springs had sagged-the car was sitting lower and causing a vibration under acceleration in the rear end. I called Tokico. I told the guy of my problem, and that it had been 21 years since I installed the springs and couldn't find the receipts. He asked if I could prove that I had owned the car that long and I faxed him a copy of the dated title. He sent me new springs. I could not ask for more than that. Mike
  22. Jason, I was thinking that you might wan't to put in a clutch kit before the install. Might save some headaches later. Mike
  23. If that return hose is cool, you probably have air pockets Dump coolant down that hose, then try idling with the cap off.
  24. Make sure all the air is out of the system. Did you put a valve in the return hose? You might even take the return off the radiator and pour coolant directly down it to the engine (when it is cool of course). Good luck, Mike
  25. Old rear wheel drive toyota celicas and supras, oh, and chev. vegas.
