  1. Austin, You have accomplished an awful lot with this swap so far. I have to tell you that I really wanted to do that swap before I decided on the LS. Can't wait to see it on the road. Can you say smooooth? Mike
  2. The GTO stock shifter uses a short linkage with a plastic cover that will not let it fit the Z correctly. The B+M lets you get rid of the linkage and cover and lets you pick from two different shifter positions. Also makes shifting shorter and tighter. Mike
  3. I have searched and found a lot of diff info, but I can't find any info on replacement ring and pinion sets (R200). Are there any out there? Thanks, Mike
  4. JTR has nice sanderson headers you can get coated or not. That seems to be what most of us have used. Mike
  5. J, Always look on the positive side, even when it looks like the $% is ready to hit the fan. I have a friend that had a similar situation (pain for many years). They took his left kidney out nearly ten years ago now at the age of 41. He is in better shape now than at anytime since high school, and he feels like doing stuff he never felt like doing before. He rides a bike, runs, plays golf-walks, rarely rides a cart, skis, etc... I hope and pray this is the way things for for you, and really feel like they will. I think that is why we have two of some things- lungs, kidneys, and even balls, that we can do without one of. Think Lance Armstrong. Mike
  6. Decisions, what decisions? That's like saying you'd rather open the door and drag your foot to slow the car down than using hydraulic brakes. I currently own 3 different vehicles with TBW. I couldn't tell if they did or didn't have TBW by driving them, only from looking under the hood. mike
  7. Really nice, looking forward to seeing it. Mike
  8. Mounting the gas pedal and hooking it up is much easier/less expensive than fabbing up a cable linkage and buying a new TB. There are 4 wires out of the PCM to the pedal assembly. mike
  9. I got mine in a few different shank lengths from Henderson Wheel.
  10. Shoot, I don't know, I've had this Z for nearly 26 years and still don't even know her name.
  11. I'd ask a reputable shop about the repair if it was working ok before the leak.. If repair is not going to work out, I've been very happy with the JTR radiator. Mike
  12. Luckily, I haven't had a car stolen. Someone tried to get my '66 Chevelle quite a few years ago. They broke in, hot wired it and tried, but failed to get it started. Did I mention it had a perforated block and oil pan where the two pistons came out? They made enough noise trying to start the thing that they woke the neighbors. Didn't catch them but chased them off.
  13. You bet I'd rather be on a road track, but the nearest one is 8 hours away. Mike
  14. Thanks guys. I really know the car is capable of sub 12.5's as it sits, but I would really need to practice the launch. Having never drag raced before, it LOOKED easy. A little more to it than I thought. Mike
  15. I finally took the Z to the track Saturday afternoon. Street tires, d/a over 6400'. Couldn't get out of the box Best 60' was 2.092 on my first run in which I completely forgot to look at the tach. Hit the rev limiter in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. My times got a little faster each run but my 60' times got worse and worse. Best run was my 4th and last. 60'-2.286 330-5.758 1/8-8.567 MPH-89.06 1000'-10.958 1/4-12.961 MPH-113.09 I was pretty happy with the car, pretty dissapointed with the driver. Mike
  16. any updates since january? I'm hoping to finally give it a go saturday night.
  17. Sounds like it could be vapor lock. A new fuel pump may fix the problem. Good luck, Mike
  18. after John's re-re-worked mine (didn't work at all the first time) it now works fine. and there is no resistor installed. I guess the LS2 signal is different than the LS1 though. I would direct a question directly to John and his tach guy. I talked to them and they seemed to know what they were doing. mike
  19. Ok, mine is an LS2 so it may be slightly different? Hose from T-stat housing goes to lower radiator. Hose from top of pump goes to top of radiator. Try pulling top radiator hose and filling with coolant (only with cold engine). This seems to help get the air out of the system. Several people I know of have had to do this. Mike
  20. I have the system that goes through the radiator support to a filter near the radiator, nearly where the old 280 box was. The intake temps are very near ambient air temps. I used the stock GTO first elbo, then stuff from JTR. Mike
  21. Phil, Two years ago I talked my wife into letting me buy another street bike. A harley this time. I sold me suzuki before I got married because honestly I couldn't control myself on it. One of my dealer accounts had taken in a 05 road king that was really nice and he gave me a great deal on it. But when I went out to get it, check book in hand, I really started to think about my responsibilities and how much time I would really get to spend on the bike. I have 2 boys in college, and now a year old grand son. Except for the Z's, all of our toys are family toys. Things that we use to get away together. So, I used the money to finish my Z. And I don't miss the bike hardly at all. Since then, I have lost two friends on bikes because people in cars didn't see them. I know you are much more talented on a bike than I am, but things happen. When I was 19, my parents were doing pretty well and decided to buy a plane. My step-dad, mom, and I were all learning to fly. That year while I was at school the plane with my mom and an instructor pilot went down in a freak storm. I am living the life with my kids and grand son that my mom would have loved, but things do happen. Just think about your wife and daughter before you make your decisions. Take care, Mike
  22. There are a lot of good serious responses here. Not so seriously, Phil, just because you like to dress up like Elvis and ride a mini bike around in parades-why would you even think that you might be crazy? Mike
