  1. Thanks, BRAAP, I missed a few key points in there(when you @$$ume...)
  2. You're supposed to check most automatic transmissions while at operating temperature and in neutral. Engines will not have all of their oil in the pan and it will be in the process of being flung around by the crank and other reciprocating mass while running. You want the engine off for at least 30 seconds to allow for most of the oil to drain back to the pan and give you a correct reading on the dipstick.
  3. Holy cow! You'd never know it from their appearance or the way they're portrayed! (okay, after a little Googling, that's a fake photo...feral koalas can be dangerous, but they don't have huge fangs like that.) Shame about Roger, you have my sympathy. Pretty neat to have a 'roo you can ride around!
  4. I'm thinking this is PERFECT for FG bumpers. Shame MSA charges so much for theirs and they need considerable prep to mount.
  5. How the hell are they getting some of these stats? Someone would have to observe the site pretty closely for an extended period. For example, the ethnic breakdown...what the heck?
  6. One of many different forms thereof. Drum, box, tube, external, internal, fixed, detachable... Mag vs. clip
  7. Hrrrrm, I should got find a pair of frontal impact air bags like that for my Z. Temporary install, of course. Nice afterburner, looks strangely like an air filter.
  8. WOW...dirt cheap! Looks as if it's in great shape, too.
  9. Bleagh. Looks like a hack job. Would make an easy convertible conversion, though.
  10. Really bizarre sound. Almost sounds like a 4-banger off idle. Hard to believe that's a 350.
  11. Magical Hover BRAAP? Ze mind, it boggles!
  12. Son of DAT = DATson, later Datsun(since 'son' also means 'loss' in Japanese), so it follows that it should be 'DAT' as in 'that' ...but I've heard it as 'Dat' as in 'dot' all my life, so that's what I go with so I don't get oddball looks and pointless corrections. I'm willing to bet our Commonwealth friends(with possible exception to our northern neighbors) pronounce it the other way.
  13. We skipped People's Curse last year at Altamont after Court Summerfield was killed.
  14. If you actually want 'Hand Solo', I'm going to assume you have donated... ...to your local sperm bank. ...repeatedly.
  15. I've been lusting over the BRM six-spokes for years. One hell of a wheel, I wish someone would make an economical version for us commoners.
  16. Have you had the alternator actually tested and not just confirmed it's charging? If it's barely charging, you're going to keep pulling charge from the battery instead of running off of alternator current, and eventually wear down the battery - which would fit into your dead battery issue.
  17. It's always better to learn from observing the mistakes of others than by firsthand experience. ...and I'm betting I'm gonna get a title change.
  18. I'm an idiot. Bad cap and rotor. I pulled the rotor up on its shaft into an unworn area of the cap and she lit right off and ran 'round the neighborhood with no issues whatsoever. Can you believe the Air Force trusts me to service and repair $88,000,000 weapons systems? If only they knew...
  19. Just checked TDC and I can get the piston on #1 at what looks like the top and have the rotor point at #1. Definitely not vapor lock, I'm dumping starter fluid down the bores and it's not catching.
  20. Just swapped the ignition module. The old one makes rattling noises when you shake it. I get a nice hot blue spark with the new one. However, the car still doesn't run. I'm dreading a skipped timing chain. Don't have the resources, time or money to fix it. Next step is to try to find TDC without tools and see where the distributor is sitting. Thinking back on the past month, the ignition has been rough / cut out on a number of occasions. I had the car fade out at a stoplight once and thought I'd run it out of fuel. I waited for AAA to show up, put some fuel in the tank, and she fired back up. I thought I was out of fuel, now I'm thinking otherwise. It happened again a few days later, and the same 'fix' seemed to work. Back at the start of last month, it began to run rough as if the plugs were fouled, and changing them out magically fixed it. Will a Z start / run with a dead alternator? Mine's been making ugly noises for a while but it's charged and held charge all right. I've got another I could swap it with. I really have absolutely no idea what's going on with my car.
  21. Wow, NICE! Looks as if he's done most of the hard stuff for you. Clean, paint, trim out, wire, drive it!
