well not quite rust free but how about one that's not worth restoring, and replacing the rust with sheetmetal to form the bed XP
-
actually, vw engines are very reliable. my dad drove his 2332 (a VERY big street engine for a bug) cross country and back (az to nc, nc to az) without any problems what so ever (and he drove it every day) you do have heat, but it sucks, and you can have AC, not sure how to set one up in a bus, but they have kits for bugs. vw's are hard to kill, very hard (unless you run it out of oil)
-
i vote for the old VW Bus.

according to those numbers, you're outflowing even a ported RB26 head (and matching it's exhaust flow) that's very impressive

holy crap, there's enough parts to build 2 cars O_O it even COMES with another body and for 6900 bucks. geezus

i'm sure with a tiny bit of engine modding you could get better milage XP Thanks for the compliments Darin. I've never liked many car forums for the same reason, too much bashing on looks, and not enough looking at the actual gains and reasons. I think i'll bookmark that page to keep tabs on it haha.

Show your rat-rod Z pics and story...

you also have the most "mad max" style Z haha. -
my god that thing looks sick. and it looks like you got a nice big bump on the intake side.

Ever notice that old Z's are pretty much loved by everyone?
m4xwellmurd3r replied to Regulatori's topic in Non Tech Board
haha yeah, chicks do dig the old Z. i saw a comment on youtube about a car with 30in rims, and some kid was saying how old cars could never pick up chicks, and his hummer h2 with some rediculous sized rims/tires could pick up all the ladies blah blah (typical idiotpersontype) i almost wanted to say my beater Z could probably pick up more girls than the hummer XP it's true. the ONE girl i thought would hate my car at work, liked my car. so kudo's on the z for making a 17 y/o girl say she likes my car haha. -
For those who didn't beleive... The GT-R is FAST.

agreed, the R32 GT-R will always be my favorite of all the skylines. -

and 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. THAT's pretty sweet. -
Where'd this come from??? (craigslist find)
m4xwellmurd3r replied to mario_82_ZXT's topic in Non Tech Board
i would end up using something like a computer dust remover. it contains difluoroethane (the stuff i use) which is a refrigerant. it freezes crap instantly if you flip the can upside down. Or you could use a paintball co2 bottle with the asa on it (i've used that as a fire extinguisher before) -
I actually don't use that snorkel that attaches to the air box. it has a clamp shaped like the 2 parts, and holds it together. the rubber part on the airbox works as a seal of sorts. from the looks of it you're just missing that clamp, but the picture is kinda blury.

yeah, i wanna do the same haha. i just thought it was interesting to see how many people were standing around my z, looking all over it. the thing looks like hell. the interior is totally burnt, and there's nothing shiny or nice about it. but then again, it IS a Z. there's somethin about Z's that attract people. whenever i see a nice Z with an airdam, watanabe's, and zg flares, i kinda stare at it for like, 5-10 minutes, thinking "is this REALLY a 30 year old car?" i'm not sure what it is, but an old Z has something about it that makes it look younger than it is. probably that sexy rear fender XP i LOVE those curves. tl;dr i ramble a lot. -

actually, i remember when i went to the scottsdale pavilions with another forum member, we ended up parking our Z near the Fbody's (only spot we could find) and we left our cars to go walk around, i saw our cars a bit later, and they had quite a few people around them, taking pictures and such (my 78 looks like crap too) when i got there i had a few people stop to take pictures of my beater Z. it felt kinda nice haha. -

everyone i know that has seen it has liked my car, as junkie as it looks. except for kids who only know that datsun=bad i dont know where the idea that datsun's are cheap came from but when they SEE the car they're like "ZOMG NO WAI" a lot of customers have stories about people they know/themselves that have owned Z's, and they all love them still (i work at starbucks) no one so far has said "ew, you drive a datsun Z" like i got with my old 62 bug haha. -
thanks for all the tips. I'll keep them in mind/write them in my work book i use for my Z (i have the hot/cold valve adjustment settings in it, and various checklists for things that need work) if i can find space to rebuild the engine i'm going to do it thoroughly, and correctly (i don't care if it takes me a month) this WILL be the first engine i've built 100% on my own (i have put VW engines together, but not 100%) what do you mean about the torque wrench spring? mines a simple bar style. Anyways, the reason i want to put in studs instead of bolts is well...i trust studs more than bolts. I'm probably going to overbuild this engine when i overhaul it (all new hardware, especially con-rod bolts, etc) anyways, on topic. I wouldn't trust hardware store bolts. even if they are rated correctly, i doubt that they were produced with holding engines together in mind. Even if they are rated for it, i'd rather go with a set of bolts that are specifically for engines.

i was lucky enough to meet coyotegary in scottsdale once. He was a wicked nice guy. I had a nice small chat with him (his car is gorgeous in person) anyways, Z guys are really nice. I come from VW's, so i feel right at home. VW people are wicked nice to the point that when it comes down to the finals, and one guy's car's busted, his opponent will come over, lend him an axle and some other spare parts, HELP him put it back together, then when they both race in top shape, the guy who got helped wins, and the loser is happy that he lost XP

that flap has a potentiometer of sorts built into it, so depending on what angle the flap is at, it tells teh ecu how much fuel to give the car. if the spring is too loose, the car runs rich, to tight, the car runs lean. but if it's not broken, don't touch it.
-
hmm, after reading all this, i think i'll stud my engine when i overhaul it XP it's not a performance engine, but i see why you'd stud it.
-
well, i doubt it would have much trouble at all considering the S30 was sold in the US as well. you could probably register it just like you would a left hander Z. I know if i had a 240z, i'd throw on a set of triple side draft dellorto carbs on it. I dont see many of them, and i've had some experience with them since my dad's 2 vw's had dual dellorto's. on a VW dellorto's are more streetable than Webber's for some reason

it might not be desierable, but i like the color of my Z 517 beige metalic (not mine, taken from the site listed previously)
-
haha, anytime. i'm on a ton of different message boards so i've learned all the workings of the different bbs programs. If only i knew that much about my Z XP. I'm planning an engine rebuild when i get my tax returns. If i get it registered by then. i think i need an afm v.v

he started with the car he had. i'm sure if he had something like a hybrid he'd use the hybrid. Use what you have on hand and make it work. that's what he did. it may look ugly as hell, but he's still playing with it and working out all the fine details. it CAN look nice (if you look at his photobucket, he was using what looked like plastic wrap for a while) honetly, i think he's doing a good job. there's also the Automobile X-prize, which is a contest to build a 100mpg car. if his car really is getting 90+mpg, i'll bet he can make it get even better mileage by tweaking the body more and maybe doing a bit of engine work. some people asked why he started with a Civic CX, and he said that the car was what he had when he started the project. I liked the poster on there that posted someone's OLD project of working with aero dynamics, with a Model T. it looked pretty badass imo. and 70mph top speed stock is pretty wicked too (my 1200cc 40hp bug topped at 70mph haha)
