  1. I remember a car magazine article listing the 10 best ways to make your car slower. Number 1 was "port your own heads".
  2. Drew,I had another '77 that got wrecked - that one had the other flares from MSA- the bubble looking ones that showed some tire. That car looked pretty good with the MSA airdam, side, and rear skirts. I just wanted to do something different with this one. Unbelieveable is the amount of variety in the cars on this forum - all kinds of tastes. Len, aren't we all nuts here?
  3. Don't you just love how it shows pulling that pin out by hand?
  4. YW(Yel-wht) is trigger signal from the ECU. BW(blk-wht)is switched 12V from ignition switch. L(blue) goes to coil -. the ground wire should be black. Looks as if all 3 years had the same wire colors and hookup for the transistor. Good Luck!
  5. I have the FSMs for 81,82, 83 ZXT. Let me know which system you have and I'll scan /post a schematic. Years ago I installed FI from an 81ZXT into my '77, and can help.
  6. I did locate Dan "Zthang" Bethea and ordered his last Spindle Pin Removal Tool. I also gave my opinion that he should make another run. Judging by the interest in this he could sell a Sheat-load of them. Danno74Z had a good suggestion - that we start a "Hybrid-Z Tool Loan Program". I would participate in such a thing.
  7. TZ, Mirrors are cheap Vitaloni "Californians". Always liked the looks but just a bit small. Ever since I first saw a one-piece on a Z I wanted one. Very nice for wrenching on the front -which I do a lot of. Ive made it so that the whole thing removes with no tools, just flip the 4 hood pins, unplug the headlights pull 4 hairpins, and lift off. I used small gas struts to act as stops for the hinge action. Attracts a lot of attention at Z gatherings, probably the reason my dinged-up and dirty car won best of show in the first one it entered. The AZCar front end caught my attention because of the louvered panels. You're right, it looks like they belong. When I received the part, I almost sent it back on the spot because of very poor quality and fit. I had never worked fiberglass before, but went to work trying to make this thing fit and be sturdy enough. After 4 months of spare time lost, I had strengthened the basic piece, fabricated hinges, bonded in fiberglass flares and headlight buckets, and made the whole thing fit after a fashion (An astute observer will notice that the left and right wheel arches have different shapes). I was working in a friend's body shop and the professionals there were ridiculing my early efforts - but were more respectful when the car was finished. Since then I have sworn that I'll NEVER do another project like that again, but... maybe now that I've done it once.... Nahhhhhhh.
  8. I've sent Dan Zthang an e-mail about a purchase. How did I miss this info when it first came up?
  9. My '77 has the IMSA flairs from MSA- check out my site (if the server's up today).
  10. I'm droolin. Can't wait to see that plenum.
  11. I would be interested in seing what that spindle pin tool looks like...Got a rear control arm to disassemble soon.
  12. I used a die grinder to carefully grind off the staked part of the nut. You should use new nuts when reinstalling the stub shafts, and grease the bearings while you're in there. Probably a good time to replace those 20-year old 200k-mile bearings IMO. Ross Corrigan of Modern Motorsports has stubshaft nuts that self lock without staking, and also the correct new bolts for the CV-to-stubshaft connection. Modern Motorsports
  13. Picture is back! Ben, sweet looking setup - Keep us posted on progress.
  14. 20mm bolts - looks like a case where the red-handled "fit-all" would be useful. Do y'all know about these?
  15. Sorry about my server being down - Changing providers. Picture will be back in a couple days.
  16. I just posted VQ35 for sale in the "Buy and Sell" Forum. Don't have any details other than Don's phone #.
  17. I use the Painless setup with their sensor and relay in my '77 - works great. A little pricey, but way better than some cheaper things I've tried. You have to retap one of the holes in your thermostat housing to fit the sensor.
  18. The capacity is 1.9liters/ 4pints. Some wobble of the input shaft is normal ( or at least the wobble in mine didn't seem to hurt anything) - The best lube for this transmission I've used is Redline MTL (Stands for Manual Transmission Lube)-If I recall, the label says it will do for anything requiring ATF OR Gear lube. Most Speed Shops have it. It really improves the shifting action of the T5.
  19. Considering the high levels of technical dicussions on this site, Many of you must be engineers. What discipline, what do you do, and where do you work? I'll start: EE,Space Shuttle Telemetry and Control,Kennedy Space Center.
  20. I have an '83 fsm that specifies SAE 80-90 OR ATF in the T5 (just looked it up). So probably flushing out the old thick stuff won't be necessary - Most synthetics I've seen are compatible with petroleum-based lubes. You might check on the label of the stuff you're going to use. In my own experience, going from a "gear lube " type ( I thought the previous owner had put in the wrong type) stuff to a thinner ATF-like stuff improved the shifting characteristics of the T5. IMO synthetics are the thing to use in transmissions especially since the lube isn't changed very often.
  21. Thanks Brad, Probably the blowoff could be closer to the TB but I didn't think it matters? I've been trying to get the car ready for the local track's opening tomorrow night - but just had my LSD unit start malfuctioning - Had to send the diff off to be reworked, and didn't want to go through all that hassle switching to the 3:54 peg -leg, then back again to the 3:36 LS. My first few practice burnouts with the big turbo, improved tuning, and Drag Radials burned up the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, then when that was replaced with a 6-puck, a halfshaft u-joint exploded on the next burnout and caused the CV conversion. All that was looking good and strong when the diff started taking a dump. With luck I'll make it to the track in the next two weeks and for sure will post results.
  22. Tim, The ZXT T5 needs ATF for lube, not 90-weight. If you use Redline MTL in that trans it will shift better.
  23. Look at those blow-thru Mikunis.Must have had a big old intercooler by the looks of the tube spacing. Turbos look nicely large. Alan, Can you provide any horsepower or performance specs for this monster?
  24. Len, would you like crispy or regular with your Shuttle?
