Zedd Findings pans/rails for ZX
sticky280zx replied to Ernest Harmon's topic in Fabrication / Welding
i wouldnt mess with the zx set....i really dont like premade anything as the quality/thickness of most isnt enough for my likeing. I have replaced a few zx's and i normally find a good donor floor at a junk yard or someone parting a car out. If you have fab skills though, get a sheet of metal and some tubing and make it work...ive used 16-14ga sheet and 2x3 .086 (14ga) rectangle tubing for more than a few "z car" floors/rails -
Agreed Value. What's it worth?
sticky280zx replied to usafdarkhorse's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
what he said /\ /\ my dad totalled out his zx and insurance said "it could be fixed", the car was covered for 12k, and they said it would be less than 9k to fix it (total would be more than 3/4 value). Heres the issue they said there was $7,600 worth of damage (with a window of up to 2k more in possible add on damage)....well damn skippy thats $9,600 and then it would be totalled out....My dad took the check and the shaft from the insurance. Needless to say he didnt lose a ton because he kept the car, BUT he had to buy another car as a donor for all of the parts and swap them over, bought the new car for 3k, bought a kit for 750 or w/e MSA seels them for, Had to have that kit painted, bought another set of 17x9 $9.5 rotas for 750, then tires for another 700, and the pain of moving literally everything off of one shell/interior over to the new car AFTER stripping it down. I told him way back to insure it for 20k and pay the little extra, that way he would be covered and they wouldnt "total" his car so quickly BUT if something ever did happen to it he could take it to the BEST OF THE BEST body shop and get it fixed perfectly....he didnt listen and now is doing it by himself the hardway. Insurance companies make money screwing their customers and not paying as much/as often as possible....just keep that in mind and always get MORE than you need especially on a stated value situation...its too cheap not to. Also forgot to add...there were parts that were/are on that car that were discontinued like the rear shocks that were adjustables, so you have to figure out a value to replace those with a new setup be it coilovers etc...which would be more. Then there are also other things like PERFECT crack free dashes, that car had one of the last ones from nissan....if they arent availible a year later its really irreplacable or going to be expensive as hell if someone is selling it N.O.S. but there again its one of those things that you really might just want to have an extra of if you can because theyre not very common, just some more things to keep in mind. -
Guess you cant stand seeing these then... ZOMG and Clive (red car) doesnt even have as much bare as i do at the moment....(hood, hatch, bumpers-although i might not use them, taillight surround, cowl panel, flares, front air dam, spoiler) Geeesh...but as stated there are alot better/cheaper ways of shedding weight than carbon, and glass isnt much heavier and ALOT cheaper...most buy it for the "look"
-
that car has a ton of good parts, if he;s selling it for 100, ill take it off his hands and part the parts i dont want out and keep the rest lol (that center console pad/cupholder alone is 100 new from victoria british)

got a clean one from a daily driven car (up untill a few months back when stripped and put in covered storage) ill take 175+shipping it was cleaned out and sealed about 2 years back
-
THIS...dont worry about the rest....that zx doesnt deserve that motor.
-
id tell your insurance to fly a damn kite....that car is worth a hell of alot more than $500. Take them print outs of cars on ebay and craigslist in similar condition as yours and if its running/driving it should be more around 2-4k
-
ive got an extra one if you want one...there are different brands but a run of the mill header is just that, 90% are close enough there isnt much difference. But some like Stahl and others are custom made, piping size, runner length, etc....but you dont need that cause youre not trying to strangle every last piece of hp/tq...especially out of a stock unmodified motor.
-
looks like a stock replacement, someone probably took some bondo....smoothed out the stock metal (all connected together) and then pulled a fiberglass mold off of it. @least looks like that to me, might check out yahoo Japan or look for a japanese company, because his plate is a jap plate.

Need a few Opinions on Clutch and Flywheel
sticky280zx replied to GAwes's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
shoot me a pm or email....i have bought a few (3-4 fidanza's) and i have a source to get them alot cheaper than listed. But if you check the ratings the 1$2 arent enough and the dual friction is around the 300 mark (which is what youre wanting). aka....save up a little longer and do it ONCE, the right way -
Need a few Opinions on Clutch and Flywheel
sticky280zx replied to GAwes's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
ive always used the fidanza flywheel and centerforce dual friction when i upgraded the stock stuff. It handles power well and revs up nicely by far the flywheel is worth it and i havent had to replace a clutch yet...3years on the oldest one thats been behind a stroker since install -
how do you sink 8k (especially if pops is paying half) and the car doesnt run, how bout your post some pics of the car...
-
well the 15's would be fine, if you go down to a 50 series sidewall itll pick up the lower gears quicker, and handle better, but also add rpms on the highway so its definately a trade off. I would go ahead and get the header, and exhaust at the same time, if anything you should shave some weight with aftermarket vs. the HEAVYYY stock. If i were you id get my shocks/springs next and swaybars as well. and id ditch those stock bumpers if i were you, itll make it quicker by saving you alot of weight. and look better, best part is....its free =)

nothing wrong with bare carbon at all...some of us do want to have it bare...and whats the problem? Parts guy makes it bare/clear coated, and then you that want to paint it scuff and paint...i dont get why people get their panties in a wad...The only reason i can think of to not make it bare is that it takes more work to have it look good, and not have a "wavy weave" but if its a "quality part" you shouldne have any issues with that. Then again if one out of 5 comes out wavy, save it for the "im gonna paint it anyway" guy and leave the good looking stuff for those of us that car about it looking good bare. It really isnt that hard i dont get why people get all in a twist over it.

did you not notice the BUMP into the first wall....great driver...best ever lol
-
guy, i will trade you a very clean 280z shell for that car...that way you dont have to hack it up...im sure alot of other people wanting to stick a v8 in these would be willing to trade as well. Why cut up a car if its already done instead of just getting another shell and swapping whatever you want/need from that car over?
-
shhhh leave him alone, he's 18 and has a 280zx 2+2....Its rather obvious he doesnt race his car, or care about going fast, looking good, maybe he has 3 kids and needs that back seat. But im glad that we're getting so popular flatty...we need to get stickers and t-shirts for our group... "hellaflush haters" aparently we are the coolest thing out since we're hated so much for our own hating...
-
Id stay away from z's but a 240sx like flat said or a 280zx might be the ticket. 280zx's are normally had for pretty cheap even in good driving shape and could get a nice one for 2-3k
-
I have to disagree...poly bushings arent a must, and while at extremes will help, but also can be too rigid for daily driving. Ball joints and tie rods are more of a must but thats more because of front end shaking as well as tire wear.

sticky280zx replied to aziza z's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z

Ive got a 78 that came out of my daily driver (2006-may this year), was the previous owners daily, ran great but i tookthe bumpers off and since i had to drop the tank i went ahead and had a shop clean it out. I'd take $250 Total, Including shipping and the paypal fee. -Jeff

Phil, youre right hander needs some work....but thats usual most people dont do as well opposite their riding side. But nice job stealing my original sticky280zx trademark phone on pole in parking lot lol

well...dropping 30k or so in a car over the last "year-year 1/2" might be why youre having to sell it to refi your mortgage....probably couldve built a nice ls1/2 and even sprayed it and had only 15k in the car and another 15k to pay your bills with, then again a sprayed ls1/2 car could prolly sell for 15k....just something to think about, then again i will stand by my original statement of RESEARCH the car you are planning on dumping 15-30k into and if you had an early mustang, camaro, etc you probably wouldnt be taking much of a loss at all,if not make money off of it. Dont blame the car for your mistakes....that Z doesnt deserve it, another 3-5k cleaning that car up,and creature comforts and it would make someone verryyyy happy and probably get ALOT more attention than it does now.
