What Mike said and you can take it one step further. If you are using the nitrous just to spool the turbo like me, then invest in an MSD RPM Window switch. Lots of them on ebay for ~$50. Very simple device that requires power, ground and tach signal. You dial in your nitrous ON & OFF RPMs and it provides a ground source at the ON RPM and cuts it off at the OFF. Eliminate the nitrous button and use that ground source for the nitrous relay and get the 12V relay trigger off the t-brake. I have an auxiliary rev limiter for spoolup set to 4800, so I set my ON to 3200 and OFF to 4600 just before the rev limiter. YUP, I only use the nitrous for 1400 RPMs on the t-brake. I footbrake the car to 3000, turn on the 2nd yellow, hit the t-brake which turns on the nitrous and I am on the auxiliary rev limiter before the last yellow with 22psi. No concerns or distractions with watching RPMs or boost or squeezing/releasing a button. In your case, set the ON to 2800-3000 and OFF to 6000 or just before the spoolup rev limiter if you have one. If you dont have one, the nitrous will shut off when you release the t-brake. Awesome debut and you are well on your way to some stunning performance. GAWD, I wish my car weighed 2300#

Congrats. You are off to a good start. Still sounds like it is taking a long time to spool up. What RPM do you start squeezing the nitrous? Please tell me you plan on losing that hood scoop

Awesome. You are in a position to use those manifolds. I assume the engine is not already in the car, so maybe someone can look at the manifold on top in the pic and tell if it will hit the steering shaft. The lowest point of the manifold is directly under the front port. I think it will fit.
-
Before you even figure out if they will fit the Z chassis, they can only be used if you have no a/c compressor and a high-mounted alternator or both compressor and alternator high-mounted. If that is all OK, then the issue is clearing the steering shaft. I have a pair from a 5.3L you have cheap to help me clean out the garage. In the pics, the one on top would be on the drivers-side.

you get to drive a gt2 for a week...what's first?

The keys words in your post. Drive it, enjoy it, appreciate it, but dont abuse YOUR FRIEND's property. -
Justin, IMHO, overrated. Just port the stocker. Darin is doing just fine @ 1300+hp with a Titan ported stocker. HP will be the least of your issues . Put those $$$ in the chassis.

anybody used the x02 racing turbo manifold?
Scottie-GNZ replied to 240zwannabe's topic in Toyota L6 Forum
The best made manifold is eventually going to crack. Like Mike said, the Greedy/HK$ owners just dont talk about it. Highly recommend you look into a Drewgo manifold. I have been using one for a while now with over 700rwhp and Timbo1JZ is using one with his 1JZ. This is chineese made to Drewgo (Andre in Miami) specs and is far superior to any of the generic ebay manifolds. I dont mind giving a pitch for a good, cost-effective product. As per Andre, 100s sold and no cracks yet but I know mine will crack someday, just like high-$$ ones. http://forums.hybridz.org/showpost.php?p=872610&postcount=45 -
Doc, it's a little different in the small displacement/large turbo/BIG HP world. The small displacement/low compression just does not have the exhaust energy at "lower" RPMs/boost and would need a ridiculous stall, then end up with double-digit, maybe even close to 20% slip on the big-end. While Z-Gad's car is a good example, here is an even better one that matches what Stony's car should do. 2JZ, Glide, big cam and turbo, 2800 stall!!!! and he tickles it with a 75-shot and up to the shift.
-
....or, hit it with a 100-shot while on the the t-brake and keep the tight converter for less slippage. Pick up a used NOS setup and MSD Window Switch and wire it up with the t-brake so the NOS only works when on the t-brake and within the window switch range.

CONGRST Mike! Looks like I need to step up my game.

Starting My 5.3 Swap....Computer Questions?

Definitely doing DBW. I grabbed the pedal from the donor, 04 Trailblazer EXT, but it is HUGE so I will have to rig something up. -

Minor missing details That combo should do well for mpg. As my sig states, I am building a 98 Sonoma Stepside with an LM4/4L60E. There is a company in the Tampa area that builds custom harness and makes the ECM mods for that swap. Just got that stuff in the mail today so I am itching to get going. -

Good choice on the 5.3L. Best bang for the buck right now. Seems like a TH350 is contrary to your concern about mpg. If you look hard enough I am sure you can find a 4L60E for a decent price and cover some of the cost with selling the TH350. With a 3.54:1 and the TH350 and an optimistic 6% converter slip, that 3.54 is more like 3.75:1. With the 4L60E in OD and lockup, the 3.54:1 is more like 2.48:1. If you do any kind of highway driving, you will easily make up the extra cost of going to the 4L60E. -

No knock on Guy's car and what he accomplished, but a Z06 has no character but a 280ZX does? To quote a line from "Pulp Fiction": "Just because you are a character does not mean you have character"

Comments made in the year 1955! That's only 53 years ago! "I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00." Could not agree with you more.

F'ing AWESOME and about damn time!!!!!!!!! At 10psi, you dont even have the turbo's attention yet. 15psi, a better tune and get that 60' down to 1.80 and I predict you move up to about #40. Definitely get some data off the LMI and tune to your target AFR. How did the tranny perform? Did those butterflies feel like eagles in your gut? How loud did you scream when you crossed the finish line and the engine was still running and nothing was going "clunk, clunk"? :D CONGRATS!

PMs responded to.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Exactly what I was looking for and I must say I am surprised by the number of responses in such a short time and all positive. Matt, as for your cons: - Heavy, IMO, means heavier gauge - Doing my own custom charge piping and mounting brackets.

Hopefully the admins will not think I am violating policy. I have my TH400 out as it looks like I might have broken a reverse band pin. I am seriously considering trying a different converter but would need to sell mine to help cover the cost. Wondering if anyone doing a 2JZ/TH400 project would be interested. It is a Precision Industries Vigilante 9.5", 4000 stall. I had it restalled so it is a little less now. Of course, since it is a standard GM converter, it will fit Chevys too. I really do not want to put it in the classifieds yet. If interested, drop me a PM.

Anyone using one of these or have any real feedback? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CXRacing-Intercooler-27x12x3-Civic-S13-3000GT-Mustang_W0QQitemZ350073702534QQihZ022QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Guess I have been out of touch, but I cannot believe the pricing on these. I have an XSpower I am trying (not my car) and my skepticism went away when I actually gave it a close inspection. Configuration and dimension demands limit my options for this project and this one fits the bill perfectly. TIA and would appreciate real feedback not opinions.

Jeff, check the name on the title and that is the only person you should be asking if you should go with that color. Live YOUR dream.

Pg 165 of the latest Jegs catalog. No secret. I bought it many years ago through Summit, I believe, for the GN engine and believe I paid right about $1K shipped. When I switched to the 2JZ I had to switch to a Chevy case to fit the 2JZ tranny adaptor. Shop made the switch in about 1hr . I later added a deep aluminum pan and then the Hipster t-brake. Not necessarily endorsing TCI, it was just a cost-effective solution for me. Personally, I would buy a stocker and have a good tranny shop or TH400 expert build it up, especially if you plan to put a t-brake in it. Dont necessarily think the TCI brake is the best. If you do the standard build with sprag, good clutches and other pieces, you will be shocked how inexpensive the TH400 can be. Of course, for a street car you sacrifice OD and LU converter, so make sure you understand that. Remember that the Buick SII was built specifically to compete in NASCAR. It was later used in Indy cars, Indy lights and lots of road racing cars including the infamous Corvette GTP. 8K RPMs is the norm for this enine. My buddy had his destroked. The engine Speeder is building was originally built and run by McLaren in Indy cars and should turn some revs since I think it is slightly destroked.
-
Note my reference to the Buick SII engine. These engines run up to 8000+. My buddy who is probably the most knowledgable TH400 person I know, shifted his destroked SII (3.5L) at 9200. Certainly if it makes you feel more comfortable, spend the extra $$$.
