  1. Mine is an "off-the-shelf" TCI full competition tranny with reverse pattern manual VB. The VB was recently replaced with a Hipster brake. Converter is a P.I. Vigilante 4000 stall. No cover or blanket, yet. I just installed 272s. Prior to that I only ran the engine to 70-7200. With the 272s I will explore 800hp but limit the revs to 74-7500 since I have a stock longblock and want it to last. You can spend ton$ building up any tranny but personally I dont know that a TH400 in a lightweight car with 800hp needs an expensive build. Many a 1000+hp SII GNs running "inexpensive" builds and typically 700+# heavier than your car will be. With a t-brake you have to look at upgraded sprag, band anchors, etc. Certainly talk to a good shop like jap tin recommends and I think the assembly is as important as the components you put in it.
  2. First off, glad you are OK. Sorry about the car but your dedication will prevail. Good luck.
  3. Dont know if this is going to help you much, but I am facing the same issue with another project. I am swapping an '04 LM4 (all-aluminum 5.3L) into a '98 Sonoma Stepside. The donor vehicle was BDW and been advised by everyone to use it. I got the pedal from the donor vehicle (Trailblazer SUV) and will have to find a way to mount it. Problem is, the pedal is HUGE and will have to cut and weld on it and need to do that w/o damaging the electonics on it. Bottom line is, you just need to find a way to mount the DBW pedal in the Z. For sure that means removing the seat and steering wheel and made even easier if the dash can be removed.
  4. Boy, there sure seems to be a fascination with 1000hp on the Internet lately. Nice, big round number, I suppose. I am old-school (and old ) and have a hard time understanding why anyone would spend so much money to make 1000hp if they are never (and in some cases, be unable) to use it. You certainly do not need 1000hp for a show car and you certainly do not need 1000hp in a Z-car to beat a Lamborghini or beat any car for that matter. Now, the dyno, that's a different story and like I said, I am old school and think most Supra owners use that as bragging rights. One of these days i will tell you about the Orlando-based Supra that had "1000HP" for his tag and could barely get into the low-10s and he was a drag racer. Any Z-car owner who has aspirations of a 1000hp street car needs to come to the track and stand a couple of feet from Z-Gad's car and watch it launch and run down the track. I cringe every time! And, he is only making about 1000hp at the crank, for now! I am probably 100hp behind in a car weighing about 300# more. We both street drive our cars but I can tell you, with a healthy dose of respect and awareness of the power and that we are only a foolish crack of the throttle away from........... I see what young kids do today with their 200hp ricers and do'nt even want to think of a 1000hp Z-car, or 800hp or 600hp doing those antics. So, if the car will never see the strip, why 1000hp? Only reason I see is to play the "mine is bigger than yours" dyno game with the Supra crowd. Ironically, with a Z-car having about 800# less weight than a Supra, no need to play that game A 600+rwhp Z-car with street tires is downright dangerous (contrary to the infamous Darius vids) and with the right tires will annihilate just about anything on the street and not need a $6000 6-spd/clutch to do it . OK, I will stop before hybridZers start bashing me. Good luck with your project and PLEASE be careful AND DOUBLE PLEASE, add to your list: a cage (6-pt at a minimum), all the necessary safety equipment, suspension upgrades and last but not least, the BEST brakes you buy. Remember, the S30 was designed for 164hp!!!!!
  5. So what happens when it is tme to change the filter? You throw out the regulator also?
  6. Check out the custom SS tank Roostmonkey built for my alky system. Pics could never do it justice. Look at the weld connecting the filler neck to the tank. Looks like it was precision cut and glued, not welded. That is how fine and neat the welds are. Big shout out to Brad. This is the 2nd tank he has built for me and I am more impressed.
  7. Oh crap. Had to go to NYC to visit my dad who is not doing so well.
  8. Guess I should be concerned, Congrats!!
  9. Did you mod the alternator bracket to make it fit under the hood?
  10. Mat, please PM me. If Mat does not see this post, does anyone know how to get in touch with him?
  11. With the potential of your car, I STRONGLY ADVISE that you run bias-ply front tires to go with the bias-ply slicks.
  12. Nothing wrong with a MP T70. Depends on how fast you want to go. I am installing one with a .96 exh housing on a 5.3L in a 90 RX7 vert. You will need a USDM water pump to replace the JDM. If you are looking for a nice inexpensive bump in power, I can sell you my USDM cams.
  13. Congrats!!!!! I see the laptop, so how soon before we see you at OSW terrorizing the local racers? What turbo is that? Now you can finally change that pic in your sig
  14. Next time you use LM-Xpress, think of me. That's my pride & joy. I was the lead engineer for system.
  15. You with LM also? AFAIAC, stock is doing fine holding @ 106 since I remember couple of years ago when it was down to 16 and I thought I would have to work until I was..........unable to.
  16. Thanks all. For those who say they are jealous or wish it was them, remember, that would mean you are my age and have all that comes with being this age I retired early so I am not that old but "39" is a long ways behind me. "When should I drop my car off for you to finish up, now that you have all of this free time..." I have given enough subtle hints. "And when your done with Mikes can I drop mine off too? :D" I will let you know when I figure out my shop rate "If you have a wife, a house and a Z..." I will expand on that. A wife who is also a car enthusiast and tolerates my habit. A house with a seperate garage with a lift. Dont have a Z but what I have will suffice. After 28yrs with Lockheed, I think I deserve it.
  17. Well, first I am going to let out a whoop and celebrate  RETIRED
  18. Very Nice! Maybe I will see it in person tonight.
  19. Nice clean install, but I have 2 comments. - You already heard about the lines inside the cabin, and while not a tech inspector, I do not think that will pass tech in any form of racing. - You have the pump too high. I recommend you drop it to about 1/3 the height of the cell.
  20. Very nice. Thanks for the link.
  21. Hey Rick, good to see you back on the forum and still pursuing the dream.
  22. To some degree, a well designed header system is supposed to contribute to this.
  23. I am new to the LSx world and in doing some research, I ran across this. If it has not already been posted, I think it might be useful for potential LSx swappers. http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f213/ls-engine-oil-pans-all-of-them-324366/#post4652678
  24. Good to see you discovered the Drewgo header. Great bang for the buck. I had some minor fitness issues, solved by 5 mins with a small round file. Well constructed, lots of bracing and most important, no welding slag inside. Very nice build. Good luck with it.
