  1. Well I didn't get around any bodywork this weekend, but I did get to drive it on the blacktop. I got all the valves adjusted like they're supposed to be (I think?). One of the cam lobes is pretty worn pretty for some reason... not sure what that's all about. I'm about 60% sure I got my coolant leak around the thermocouple stopped. And then there's the drive. Probably was a mistake after all this rain, I got mud EVERYWHERE. It sucked with no fenders, mud just everywhere. Oh well, it was fun and I got a video. A couple of problems though: I need to check my tranny and diff fluid. I felt alot of vibration though the shifter, and when decelerating there was this friction noise, didn't sound normal. Further investigation is necessary... Also I'm getting some misfiring when the engine is under a load. Heavy accelleration, especially around 3500rpm (never was able to get much higher), caused the car to buck and misfire. I think these carbs are going to need a rebuild if I expect to use them on the road.
  2. It moves! I finally got to drive my Z, and I was ecstatic. After having to track down the mail carrier (didn't bother coming to the door, just honked and left, $*#$), I got my throttle linkage and ballast resistor. I got the front calipers and soft lines, inline fuel pressure gauge, and fuses for the fuel pump and elec radiator fan installed, and drove it around the driveway. I got a couple of quick 1st to 2nd shifts, and it was awesome. I wasn't even winding it up much and it still felt pretty quick (plenty of adrenaline coming into play though so...). I took a vid, so I'll edit and post that when I get back to broadband. I'm thinking about taking it on the blacktop tomorrow for some 45mph test runs, so I'll take some video of that too. I'll also make a stab at adjusting the valves (now that I have a gasket just in case), and see if I can neutralize and primer over some of the major rust areas.
  3. It seems like it's sped up, and then sound matched. There's not enough wind noise at the speeds he's supposedly going. Police were totally fake too IMO.
  4. Alright well i went and picked up my valve cover gasket, front calipers, and front brake hoses today at autozone. I also grabbed a cheap fuel pressure gauge to make sure I'm getting enough flow at high rpms, some e and c clips for various things, and the inline fuses I need for the elec fan and custom run fuel pump switch. I also swung by Bumper to Bumper and grabbed some Rust-Mort and a quart of black epoxy primer and hardener. Hopefully this weekend I can at least get the bare metal coated and primed. The rest of the body comes later. First I have work on a few dents and get rid of the heat baked paint flaking off in the back.
  5. Ouch, he just started getting reckless there at the end. Must've felt pressed by the MX5 keeping up with him in his mirrors and got cocky. Tisk tisk.
  6. Sweet! Sounds awesome. Definitely makes me anxious to get my L28et in
  7. N/P I'm hoping to, but the whole Mother's Day weekend thing is a curve ball. She puts up with all the car stuff year round, so she wouldn't be thrilled about it on her day. We'll see though, I'd sure like to.
  8. Mix up calcium carbonate (washing soda) in a bunch of water (saturate it). Put a metal bar (steel or iron IIRC) in the bath with your part (not touching). Get a car battery charger, hook the neg to the part, and pos to the bar. Set to 4amp (there-abouts), and let it sit as close to 48 hours as you can. It'll be black all over when done. Be sure to wash it off and paint the part (or coat with oil) VERY soon (couple hours) so it doesn't re-rust (it will, quickly).
  9. Will do. Bad, terrible, frustrating news. Apparently the $*(@#$%* still hasn't mailed my throttle linkage. Just called him to find out when he shipped it, and he said he forgot and still hasn't yet. Looks like I likely won't be driving it this weekend either.
  10. Alriiiight got tags and insurance lined up, so I'm good to go on public roads! Can't wait to take it out this weekend. I wonder if I should put the fenders back on, or leave them off... heh. This means I need to hurry up and get the car on the streets, else I'm wasting insurance money. I'll consider it a kick in the pants to get the body work and paint taken care of.
  11. Ah well good then. If that pic was shot with the car running, and assuming it's after the FPR then you have a problem somewhere. FI cars are supposed to have like 40+ psi of fuel pressure IIRC. Don't quote me on that, but I know that less than 10psi is definitely too low. You might have either a bad pump, the pump isn't getting enough voltage, or the FPR is bad. I'd check all of that if I were you.
  12. Well I thought it would be a bright idea to go ahead and get tags and registration for the car if I was going to have a brief stint of driving on public roads this weekend. Shows what I know... Gotta have insurance to get tags, gotta have it assessed to get tags. So I went to the county courthouse and got it assessed, and apparently it's only worth $235 to them and didn't have any taxes due, lol. I'm still trying to get ahold of my insurance agent to get the car added on our policy.
  13. I suppose it could... but I'd bet it's something else. I'd suggest getting one of the little $15 autozone fuel pressure gauges and seeing for yourself. Then you'll know 100% for sure if that's your problem, or a problem at all.
  14. Well I can't speak for that. I'm running carbs on my L28, so the floats regulate my fuel for me. Dead-heading probably isn't too good on my pump, but w/e. I just leave mine on as long as the car is running, but yes a fuel pressure regulator would regulate the fuel flow, so no it shouldn't run rich.
  15. I've got a 260z, and at the moment I'm too lazy to figure out why the pump won't run by itself, but I have the same problem I think. I just ran speaker wire from the battery up through the shifter with a switch, then back to the pump to run it whenever I want to. I'll get around to troubleshooting the stock wiring... eventually.
  16. Lol thanks, definitely will post more vids soon hopefully. I may make a quick not-so-legal (no insurance or registration) run on the county road to test her out next weekend, since there's rarely anyone on it anyway. Yeah that thing is a china knockoff POS, can't remember the brand right now. We have two, both do that. After about 10 minutes they stop working completely. Good equipment FTW!
  17. Thats awesome Ron! I love extreme close up shots like those. I really like the one of your headlight switch where the detail of the dash really pops.
  18. There was a thread going around here recently (or maybe a sticky) that quite extensively talks about the guidelines of how to calculate a redline. Search and you should find it pretty quick. My first search didn't show much, but IIRC it was one of grumpyvette's writeups, so keep looking you'll find it.
  19. Wow that's awesome. I'm hoping to make a rough stab at custom making something like that. It's going to be uuuugly!
  20. This post is mainly for my benefit, to find this info again quick: My dash lights, side markers, and parking lamps don't work. Hopefully with this info i'll be able to track down the problem this weekend.
  21. Um, does not compute. Please restate the inquiry... EDIT: Mmm double post. Never heard of an interference engine. Handing this one off...
