  1. They are thinner than traditional head gaskets so they bump compression in themselves It's an easy way to pick up a little more compression and power if you have to replace one anyways.
  2. Close up on the rust? My vote goes to just swapping the whole l28et into the 280z as it is. It seems like it would just be more, unnecessary work to swap it n/a and then bolt all of the turbo stuff back onto it. First things first, I would get the zx running and make sure everything checks out on it like the seller said. You never know what the real condition of things is until you've seen it for yourself. If it truly is just a bad fuel pump it shouldn't take much to get it running again. The swap will be a lot smoother if you can get all of the bugs worked out of the donor engine while it's still in the donor car Keep us updated with lots of pics! Let me know if you need any Z parts
  3. wow That whole post in two sentences What made you pick the Scarab position?
  4. That's excellent compression! Looks like the rebuild was a success
  5. The downfall to header wrap is that it holds moisture right up against the bare metal. This makes ceramic coating a very attractive option because there isn't anything helping your headers rust away. I wonder what the actual difference is in the amount of thermal retention between the two methods. What about wrapped and ceramic coated headers? I'm sure it's just overkill though.
  6. Go see it in person and decide from there. Bring the cash when you make your offer. Some people will just jump on it if they see the money in front of their face. 2500 in 20's looks like a hell of a lot more cash than 2500 in 100's
  7. Tube frame and removable front clip?
  8. Personally, I love the way it looks right now. Pics of the entire car so we can get a better idea of how it really looks? Have you considered making a "mini-cowl" just to cover up what you need? I don't like the looks of big cowl hoods on our Z's You might be able to enlarge the hole so you could fit an air cleaner on it as is.
  9. What did you end up selling it for?
  10. Hey, I'm going to be making a run of flanges for fabricating your own custom headers. I'm wondering what you guys would like to see in them and if there would be anyone interested in them. I found zguy36's rendering of the P90 head ones, and I turned it into a one-piece style flange for the ease of keeping everything lined up when welding. My main questions here for you are these: 1) What thickness of mild steel would you like to see these in? (My machine is currently set up for .250", but I might be able to move to .375" if that would be better) + 2) Which do you prefer, a 5 piece flange, a 3 piece, or a one piece? + 3) Which post style would you like to see, round, square, or hex? Here are a few pics of what I'm using to cut
  11. Love it! Have you updated your thread in ST:A as well?
  12. A full rebuild? No. If there are metal shavings in there, you've got some serious problems. Pictures of the damage?
  13. In order of both strength and preference: Borg Warner T5 from an '83 turbo 5 speed from a n/a ZX 5 speed from a 280z The T5's only came in the '83 turbos, correct?
  14. Looks amazing man! That interior is killer! Super clean and very crisp looking Job well done *thumbs up* How does everything run? The only thing I'm not loving is the exhaust tips, but that's completely superficial
  15. Lets see some pictures as soon as you get it mounted! Looking great
  16. Love it, love it, love it! I can only imagine how much easier access to that garage made everything. When are you going to be able to get some runs in at the track?
  17. Have you thought about the 75 to spool while also having something larger for down the track?
  18. WOW! Now I know why I just pulled and sold my dash to Alex I'm going to try this on one of the other Z dashes that I have that is cracked pretty severely. I'll be sure to take pictures when I do it although it probably won't be any time soon.
  19. Just because it has a salvage title doesn't mean that things can't be good still/ I would say that the car is worth your time to look at at the very least. Having it inspected is a great idea and it will catch anything major that would be wrong (ie. subframe damage). An inspection usually only runs about $50-75 and is worth every penny. Maybe try to get the seller to pay for it up front and if everything checks out you agree to buy the car for a set price.
  20. Wow! That was fast How much for the roof? Or at least a chunk out of the top of it to patch my ugly sunroof?
  21. Well, if that dash is the original and not a cap placed over the factory one, it's worth more than that 1k asking price just from that one piece It does sound like it does have some issues that need to be addressed though. How does it currently run?
  22. Wow He said that they were $60 new from where he was looking! What is pnp? Pick and pull?
