Do you get a strong pump shot when you wack the throttle? Have you set your wet fuel level correctly...while ideling? Do you have the correct power valves installed. Is the correct vacuum secondary spring installed? From the pics, it looks like you have 2 primary meetering blocks installed!!!!both have idle mixture screws!!!! I've never seen that. I DO NOT beleive that is correct.

A stock piston for my Mercedes 190E 2.6 was $300.00 . I bought a used engine for $1000.00

Just some info on Knock sensors. The sledge hammer test is erroneous. What the knock sensor is "looking " for is a Noise of a certain frequency. It's not the impact. More like a tuning fork. Try that same test by tapping a wrench on the block and you'll see the timing retard. As far as detonation, EXTEMELY common in the marine industry. I used to review numerous complaints of defective pistons. DETONATION will deform/ crack ring lands. Also blow holes in pistons. The 2 frame fronts colliding is very destructive. Less ign. timing, high engine temps,low octane fuel, high boost pressure, highintake air temp, excessive engine load are just some of the culprits.

I would have to say VENT. Does not appear stock. Normally you vent through the charcoal canister......EMISSIONS.

Back in '86, some clown ran a red light and totaled my '68 GTO convertible. I made sure I signed a complaint with the police. He was found guilty. His INS. co only offered $1000.00 for the car. I lawyered up, had plenty of pics, and they came up with $4,500.00 If it's not a fair offer, get comps, pics, classic values , etc. and have a lawyer write a good letter. Ins. companies don't like litigation. Also name the driver as a defendant. This will get their attention.

High idle is usaually caused by a vacuum leak, or carb(s) throttle not closed. "dieseling" can result from both. AKA run on. Both can also cause hard cold start . Solve one problem and you'll probably solve the others.

While we're putting together my son's car, and swapping parts between cars, now is the time to put the poly kit in. Does anyone prefer one brand over another? Correct fit is most important, price is secondary. Thanks

I bought a 77 280Z coupe with 48k on the clock. 5 spd car. It was sitting in a garage in pieces since 1982. I have the original exhaust system, with all the shields and metal hangers. Complete from manifold back, one piece, intact, unmolested. No cat. converter (stock). It has both NICHIRA mufflers. Very solid, minor surface rust spots. Any one venture a guesstimate on the value to one of the purists out there. Might consider interesting trades. Will probably end up putting it on Ebay.

Intake gaskets installed correctly? Some gaskets have block off plates in one end. I beleive they can be installed wrong.

I didn't scrutenize every post. What engine is in the car? Some small block v8's had reverse flow water pumps. If so, you could have the wrong pump, or be spininng it in the wrong direction. Just a thought. Aslo, some thermostats have a lower disc that functions to close off a bypass port when the thermostat opens. Make sure you have the correct thermostat!

I would have guessed your wallet exploded.

Sorry, didn't read the entire thread. Looked like a great deal. Thought the owner " couldn't see" what he had. I didn't realize you bought the car, found the bad rust, and decided to resell.

73 240 ....74 260..........not the same. I have both cars. 260 is a much longer piece and rides on top of bumper. 240 shorter and rides underneath bumper.

Hey Clive, It was first lisred on Craig's at $2,600, then ebay..didn't meet reserve . Then here on Hybrid. Almost rust free, but well worn, bumpers dented. Rough. Needed a lot of work.

No rudeness detected . Not sure on the manifold runner design, haven't seen one lately. Let us know how you fix it.
