I do have the factory O2 sensor connected. Driving the past 2 days if I have a passenger it does it sooner, like when torque starts to climb the ignition/fuel breaks up. Now I can drive and keep it off boost and its faster than traffic. If you punch it goes right into fart, crackle misfire.

how old is the radiator. Thats what was wrong with mine when I got it the radiator was totally plugged.

Looks good, and you can fit with a helmet? So you did not cut out the stock seat mounts? More pics would be great!

1972 240Z Fuel Cap Alternatives???

Is there a locking gas cap available for our car? -
Great job. Wiring is something that starts out like a rats nest and with proper planning and thought can be nice and neat. Hate the oversight of one more thing that messes up all the planning though. Fire and smoke soon!! Do you have a base tune to start with? or are you just putting in something to get started?

OK, i havent checked the plugs since I first started the motor. I agree that the motor combination should handle the boost. Should be able to go to 12lbs! So, this is more of intermittent issue. I am going to clean all the contacts again and do some more wire chasing to see if I have some faulty connections. Fuel pressure is at 38 lbs. The vacuum line to the FPR is working, as in if I pinch the vacuum line and rev the pressure does not change. When open the pressure changes when rev'd Does this system really use the O2 sensor? I do have it hooked up.

Took the car out with mom. Her 3 rd ride in the car 2 when it was n/a. She is a teacher and had a baby snapping turtle that a student had brought into the class. She wanted to get rid of it. So, we rode over to the other neighborhood to dump it in the pond. She called it "Squirt" something about its habits in class, it was as big has a half dollar. She is not suppose to have this in the class room. http://vid158.photobucket.com/albums/t85/melbellwood1/Tooquick260z/20130610_131521_zps1a49a481.mp4 here is a shot of the car. -
Yeah thats what I am thinking.. weird that it doesnt do it on lower boost. Question is why.... what is making this happen.

Ok I have my turbo swap completed and working out small details (checking interior under dash wiring question in other posts) I have a AEM tru-boost controller in my car. I have played with boost a little bit. When initially installed with the controller off just using as a gauge the boost was reading 5.6 as a max. Is that normal for these cars? Car runs goooood on this as in drive ability! Smooth power is good with some slight hesitation sometimes in first. Ok, so when I reset the parameters in the controller to up the boost and max it out at about 7 lbs of boost. The car will about 3/4's of the time run good but cut out back fire when getting up on the boost the other 1/4 of the time, boy when it doesn't cut out its a blast. So, being a goofball or what ever you want to call me. Upping the boost to 10 lbs and the car comes alive it is really fast compared to what it was n/a. But the backfire farting issue is more prevalent. What I have.... L26 block, compression at 8.7 to 1, stock 83 ecu, stock 83 used injectors, stock 83 wiring harness yes crackly wires, intercooler, 240sx throttle body, P90 head with an upgraded cam, 2 1/2" exhaust to a 2 1/4" inlet round muffler to a 4" outlet. Questions or deductions. Am i driving past the ability's of the ecu/afm? Do i have a fuel delivery problem? I do also have an AEM air/fuel gauge in the car. When the farting happens the gauge is not spiking total lean, its highest reading is about 14.2 ratio. Under boost when it does not fart or cut out it reads about 10.7 as lowest and usually stays around the 11.4's.

Wiper, tail lights and dash lights don't work
tooquick260 replied to tooquick260's topic in Ignition and Electrical
Ok further onto my wiring saga.... I have been driving the car everyday. Had no tale lights, wiper and lost the gauges. Now the tale lights are working and the gauges came back on. Still no wipers. checking voltage looking for the short. It is from the stalk switch under the dash. The plug for the rheostat for the dash lights is getting really hot as well as the rheostat. White plug that gets the white wires coming off of will not come apart as it is melted together. Found a ground wire that is melted and redid that. I have to take the dash out and find out what is going on. Anyone had these issues before. Its like a snake that keeps poking its head up. Have a question? I moved the battery to the rear. on the negative battery terminal what wires are suppose to be attached to it for ground? is it a wire, wires from the dash wiring harness? I can remember where the ground wire attached? Was it on the Motor? where on the motor? Good news is that I have the tranny and the rear diff solid mounted. -

Here is a pic of the fuse holder where the fuse blew. Is this still useable still with the plastic melted around this? -
Ok just finished a turbo install.. Only wiring done was ignition on and fusible link (made seperately from all other wiring) for the ECU, and ground all the grounds for the harness. Turbo install is good and running well. I also wired in the boost controller and air fuel gauges. I drew power from the re-defogger switch in the center console. These all work no problem. I didn't touch anything else wiring wise and everything worked on this car before the swap. So the wiper, parking/tail lights and dash lights. Put the fuse in for the tail lights and the fuse glows and will blow. When the fuse is in and working before blowing all the parking/tail and dash lights work. Looked at all connections for these lights. Seem good. I don't see any chafing, bare wires. Have not pulled the dash to look at that, seems a little extreme, but may have to to find something. Now what do I check next? How do I check them? Could it be something to do with the headlight switch? Looking at the fsm does not seem like the tail light switch is connected in any way with the wiper switch. Looking under the dash seems the headlight/turn stalks wiring goes up and in the dash behind the gauges. I know that the green wire coming out of the fuse box with the 20A fuse feeds power to the gauge lights and parking lights.

Got the exhaust done today and a final alignment. I put on new tie rod ends on as well. One issue on the front alignment. They could not get the camber in spec. Ended up with -1, they said it should be 1 to 1.2. I am learning what all those numbers mean so will see. The front suspension is all stock. I will save up my money for adj lower front control arms. Had an ongoing issue with the fuel pump I have going from the fuel tank to the surge tank, it would quite suppling the surge tank. Old pump so I replaced and seems to work great. When I was driving around with old pump the air/fuel gauge would read lean on cruise modes and this seems to help this problem. Well I blew another fuse for the tail lights. I lost my dash lights, windshield wiper as well! Thats my challenge the rest of this week. Fix these little gremlins.
