  1. you seen something you want?
  2. You'll just have to order LHD Holden Maloo utes direct from Holden in Aussie then, instead of waiting for a G8 ute... Holden is set up to make LHD commodores (G8's) and they have the same firewall, dash and pedal boxes as the utes, so no new engineering needed. HSV make custom requests, and with the current exchange rate to the AUD, theres no better time than the present
  3. The Iranian Army has Steyr sniper rifles... the US State department was so incensed at that they made life hell for the Steyr USA branch of Steyr-Mannlicher.
  4. If you're going to go to that extent of the sublimey riduculus... pull out the glass, and slap a L-29 Albatros canopy in extending half way down the glass and place the seat in about the cowl area...
  5. A problem is this is starting to get off topic from "DIY 180* crank construction" as per the title... maybe the Northstar and 180 headers stuff should be shuffled over and tacked onto the "Exotic SOUNDING V8" thread where they would be IN topic? nice looking northstar tho can you imagine a 2x2 with the back floor pan and rear seats removed and a custom rear tube chassis and engine box built there to hold that thing? Fit a pantera style hatch with the rear deck past the glass replaced with see through mesh, and the pipes exiting the tailplate between the lights one of the 4-1 ends exiting each side of the rear registration plate.
  6. Here the LD28 came in a number of different cars, the Laurel diesels, Cefiro, some light trucks, Patrols. theres a good number around. checking out Trademe.co.nz, theres an LD28 plus GBox for $600 now, about 300 USD. thats about standard for a workign engine, the price normally ranges about $300 to $800 depending on condition for a running motor.
  7. drop in an LD28 stock mounts, stock tranny...
  8. IIRC the shaft length is different, search will bring it up for definate. if there's not just in a sticky in the drivetrain forum giving shaft lengths for manual and auto converters. The only silly question concerning trannys is the ones asked by the poor chumps going "Whys my girlfriend got a dick?" And the only stupid question is the one thats not asked I hope you're safe on that front
  9. youtube is too much for dialup here, but is that a rover V8? AKA Buick 215ci? I know of several of them in MX5's
  10. is that why they brought out the Targa Tops? help save the cost of roof repairs each time you use it?
  11. thats why theres joints in the drive shaft, close enough is good enough, the joints take out the variation. it just can't be TOO great.
  12. Yep, NZ and Aust use RON, and the US uses SON or something I think. the ON stand for Octane Number, but the bit at the front means different things. NZ 91 equates to a US 88 I think (from what I have read in an AA article about taking your car travelling on a carnet du passage) so their 87 octane is still slightly under NZ base fuel octane. We have 91, 95 and 98 here in NZ.
  13. If you have the book, you have a head start on me, and I'm puttering through a V8 rebuild read the book cover to cover, then read it again, then open the engine up and dig in take lots of photos so you can see how what bits fit where. Don't forget you can post them on here when you stuff up so we can laugh and then tell you how to correct it a good swap, entertainment for education, and then if someone else stuffs up, the solution is in the search.
  14. the deal with the plugs is japan is metric, 1/2" is 12.7mm. the plugs are probably 14mm, Most jobs on a jap car can be done with a metric set of 8, 10, 12, 14, and 17mm spanners or sockets.
  15. can I have some of what you're smoking? it must be strong stuff
  16. Yah, it looks like the site he hotlinked from supplies a generic "hotlinked pic, naughty leech" pic of a corvette I would like a Maserati Quattroporte for a daily driver, 4 doors, nice looks, sporty response and plenty of power. 199,990 NZD, or just shy of 100,000 USD for a 2007 model. for a fun car, a 4200 Spyder cambiocorsa. this 2003 model convertible is listed at 99,990
  17. So I'm a sexist male chauvinist pig? What's new about that?
  18. Hmm... cameras on poles that fine speeders? got them already! too many of them too. As to remote anti theft. there was some cop show that profiled an auto theft sting. some car of a popular to theives make is fitted with a GPS, radio remote lock override and ECU cutout, then parked in a high risk theft area. Once the office gets a radio message from the cars computer they simply notified the nearest prowl car and sent a message back to the sting car. Locks clicked down and interior door handles disabled, and the ECU cut the engine and applied the ABS system to brake the car. Prowl car pulls up and radios the office to let the door lock release. If I recall right, It got shot down by the American Criminals Liberties Union, or ACLU or whatever they call themselves as infringing Americans rights as a police sting parking a tempting car was providing temptation that otherwise wouldn't have been there.
  19. So. CONGRATS! what are your plans for the future? you going to get a 2009 Corvette and wrap it in mothballs so when he hits 21 he can have a mint 0-mile classic car?
  20. what about simple landrover series style lucas domes on a rat rod Z?
  21. sounds like you would do better with a steering damper like on a 4x4 truck than a power steering rack, they're made to do the same thing when a truck hits a rock, so the wheel doesn't jerk suddenly, but allow you to turn normally.
  22. Theres already some spark plug/injector combo out there I think ,I've seen mention of it, so that port injection engines can be converted to direct injection. It's just experimental as yet, but if the technology becomes affordable, I could see older engines being converted. But it's far more likely the idea will die out due to lack of interest. the big engine makers just make their new engines direct injection from scratch, and the numbers interested in converting from port to direct on an older engine probably aren't enough to justify producing it.
  23. I was working on my old Isuzu Bighorn with the 4JB1-T 2.8 Direct injection Turbo Diesel and wanted to pull the injectors to have them re-calibrated. Not having a service manual, I just dug in with some tools and ended up with the bodies of the injectors coming off but leaving the nozzles and bases still in the head. instead of a quick recalibration, that meant I had to have them rebuilt... mega dollars.
  24. Rover V8 cross bolt blocks, bored and stroked to 5.2 Litres, twin squential systems, one per bank. Used for a Hydroplane racing boat engine. 900Hp+ Ford Sierra 2.0L engine, squential turbo system, my old bosses Targa NZ motor for his Ford Escort panel van. 600Hp+ theres plenty of examples around, but they take serious engineering to make work properly.
