  1. I have a set of fanolic intake manifold spacers used to turn the intake around and clear the timing belt. The are not perfect but will work for mocking up the intake. Free, you pay shipping.
  2. It all depends on what modern suspension you want to graft onto your z. There is a tread on using 240zx rear four link for starters. Some of the BMWs might work along with seats and stuff. All it takes is research, $$$$$ and elbow grease. A few years ago I almost bought a wrecked 944 Porsche and was looking at using the transaxle and fron suspension, waited too long and it was gone. The suspension that the Cobra kit cars looks neat for the front end but fabing the connecting points could be a challange. Strut suspension has come a long way in the last 40 years so look around.
  3. Do a search, there have been several members building Supercharged / Turbo cars, using the supercharger for the low end and turbo on top. One was in Europe and was being done because of their laws on swapping engines. I really have never seen anyone complete their project on Hybird. It sound like it could fit your design parameters. Good Luck on the project.
  4. As for the sputtering with 2 gallons in the tank, your gas lines are switched at the tank. Had this on my z after I dropped the tank years ago and connected them wrong. Your z should get in the mid 20s if it is tuned properly.
  5. It is funny how this subject is rehashed over and over. Tony D always tries to set the record straight on the drawbacks of blow through carbs and to use EFI. There is no one that I know of who has as much experience with blow through set ups on Zs. For myself I will probably get my blow through supercharged running one of these years and learn the hard way that I should have just used the triples normally aspirated. But what the heck, some of us are just too hard headed to listen to the experts on the subject and can only learn by our own mistakes.
  6. Here is what I built for a box One of the members did a model of the air flow and the first 2 cylinders is not that great. The Cartec would be about the same as mine. The tube on the top of the carbs is to increase the pressure in the float bowls. My cost was about $40 for it.
  7. The camaro spoiler will work but is a pain to install. The center section can be shortended and the end filled. I used the firebird ends and were a pain to mold in. They are made of some plastic that is hard to bond to. I had to use fiberglass and metal to make it work.
  8. Very OLD SCHOOL, 60 years ago my dad raced a midget with a V8 60. He balanced the crank rods and pistons together as a unit. He set up a jig having the crank mains sitting on razor blades and basically balanced it so no matter where it was rotated to it would not roll. From his stories this was how all of the race guys use to do it. And they did turn some R’s on those old flat heads!
  9. IF it's cheap enough cut the top off and make a convertible out of it. As said before you would be better off getting a cleaner Z without the roof rust. Also if it has rust in the roof like that I bet the lower part of the chassis has more rust.
  10. The yellow one is about the cleanest convert I have seen pics of. I will be tracking to see what the red one goes for if it sells. I just bought a house today that has a seperate shop to work on my convert again, get the engine, brakes and exhaust finished.
  11. I pulled a Hobie behind my 280. If I remember I used the tie down locations for the hitch. It has been over 20 years so I could be wrong. Only problem was on time it vapor locked going over the rockies on my wife. It would have been ok if I hand told her to crack the hood to get the heat out.
  12. Here are the changes that would make it more interesting to me. Run the new Mustang, Camaro and Challenger with stock bodies, Toyota can buy the Firebird body style and produce a production car. Use STOCK BLOCK ENGINES, transmission housings and rear ends and Brakes off of a production US made Car or Truck. At least 50% of each car has to have production based parts. Cut the spoilers down to 2†max. The good drivers will go fast and the others will have to learn. Have the top 30 cars get in the race by qualifying and have the rest race their way in with a 30 lap race! No more points getting you in the race. Where NASCAR is going now I have really quit watching or caring after being a fan for over 30 years.
  13. From the picture they are solex carbs not mikunis. I have not followed Solex in the last years but they were a step down from webers in the 60s. The TIA BMWs had webers and the TI had solex. As for jets you need to do some research.
  14. As a general rule a salvage title will reduce the value of the car by about 30 to 40%. It sounds like the owner has already went to the state and had the inspection and title done. The only time it is going to effect you is when you sell it. Ask the owner for the paper work from the insurance company showing it was flooded. Remember if he didn't have full coverage insurance on it it would never have a salvage title even if it was flooded. Doors are chaeap at the wrecking yard! Do a carfax on it if there is a question.
  15. First try is to change out the thermostat. They do quit working. Is the coolant staying at a constant level? It the thermostat doesn't work and you are not loosing coolant install a new water pump.
  16. You have to reinforce the chassis like convertible is done. There are two schools of thought here. One is to add 1x2†TS along the frame rails and the other is to add TS in the area next to the doors. I preferred that TS along the frame rails. It really need to be X braced in that there is significant flexing during cornering on my car. As I said do a search.
  17. Do a search this has been discussed before. Save your Z and buy my convert and you can have both!
  18. I would like to see my Z crashed out in a movie and have it go out with a ball of flame!
  19. You might want to work on the problem. Flush the engine with a cleaner and use 20-50 oil and add some STP or other additive. Valve seals can be done without tearing down the engine. Years ago I went from using a quart of oil every 1000 miles to one every 3000 miles by going from 10-40 to 20-50 in a chevy 350.
  20. Tony D is 100% correct. If your employer gave you any papers on your change of status KEEP THEM, if not ask for your changes in writing. In todays economy some employers are trying anything to cut corners.
  21. Congrats on getting out of debt on the student loans. Just think how many liberal arts grads wish they had an engineering degree so they had a decent paying job. Now start studying for your PE and get the next pay jump. And as above start saving for a house.
  22. The aerodynamics of the Z is not set up for 130 mph. I drove a Lamborghini Mirria 202 back in the 60s and at about that same speed it was a real hand full. Very few car have the aerodynamics be stable at that speed. Remember these cars were sold on looks not aerodynamics and gas was cheap. Go to the race track and check out all of the Zs and look at their modifications. There are some manufactures of body kits made for racing that should improve stability but you still need to do your homework and find out what they do with the under carriage.
  23. I can agree with sticky280zx. A few years ago I went to buy a 5spd and was offered a set of 45mm SK racing carbs. We started going trough the how much do you want how much do you want to pay BS. When I was paying for the 5spd he offered the carbs for an additional $100. I jumped on them. So deals are out there, heck I didn't know they were not webers until I got home. You get what the market will bear and the carb generation is getting older and smaller.
