New Truck wanted:Toyota Diesel - Other options?
BillZ260 replied to BillZ260's topic in Non Tech Board
You guys recomend a good deisel forum? I'd like to understand the differnces between the BIG 3 trucks. Things like model years are better, Engines and Transmissions, etc... -
Yeah, most folks in the Middle East do not wear their seatbelts.
-
As far as getting the trans CENTERED, bolt it to the engine, (I used a mock up for this). Lower them both into the car, bolt the engine to it's mounts, then bolt the x-member loosely to the trans, jack the trans to height and mark your mounting holes. You can easily adjust the height later then if needed.

Make sure you have a dryer on your compressor or you'll just be blowing more water in there. ( I know, it's on my to do list in the garage.)

This though has run through my mind a couple of times. Of course, I would have to have the V8 car to. I think the Z is a great platform for all the same reasons other guys are sticking whatever motor in them they like. Parts are a plenty, used and aftermarket.

I pretty much tried to keep everything. Like jason i used the painless kit, ended up w/ a push button starter but everything else is using the stock switches. Currenlty I am re-wiring all the under dash power and ground for my autometers. I just coulnd't live with the crimps and electrical tape anymore (I did that about 2 years ago) and am making disconnectable harness for them.

New Truck wanted:Toyota Diesel - Other options?

I guess i need to read up on the Dodge. I am assuming the manual tranny is the only option for these. I have heard about too many autos going bad in them. I'll see what i come up with. Thanks and I'm still open to your input. -
New Truck wanted:Toyota Diesel - Other options?

Thanks for the input fella's. A full size truck is too big for my needs and 20 mpg isn't enough incentive. I guess i'll just wait till my truck just completly falls apart and see what's available -
Thansk for the offer but I actually just got a promotion and enjoy what I'm doing. I got started in the shop but worked my way through school and now work in a semi-it position. I'd like to have my own personal shop and do some side stuff like this at some point. BTW, do you do any work for any of the Baker Hughes Divisions down there?

Any other suggestions on a light duty work vehicle that gets great milage? -
I just searched through my PDF repair manual and could not find the part that I remember removing and replacing in the end of the tail shaft. There is a coated copper sleeve in the end of the tailshaft that controls the movment of the end of the shaft. When I rebuilt my T-5 the one that was in there was pretty worn but i didn't check the play amount before and after replacing that part. If you pop the tail housing off you should be able to check this 'bearing'. That's all i can think of it being as far as shaft movment, and as long as the sound your talking about is a "CLUNK" then that should clear up as well if it's the culprit. Holler at Kevin at TheGearBox.org he can help w/ technical questions and any parts you'll need. Hope that helps.

My DD 94 explorer is falling appart, literally. I've had this truck for almost 12 years now. The 141k Motor and trans are running good, but everything else is just plain wearing out. SO i'm starting to look into a good replacment that will last, perform similar tasks and get decent milage. (Somwhere above 25) I'd also like to be able to tow at least 2 tons which is right above my current limit, and I'm not really keen on the Hybrids for this type of vehicle. In the past 8 months I've spent 6 in Dubai and 2 in Scottland, both have lots of Toyota diesels available. They are available in Trucks, SUV's and Cars. I know the actual diesel here in the US isn't the same they use (sulfer content?) but I really want a diesel truck and don't need a huge domestic. Found this on Ebay: 3.2 L 4Cyl!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-Land-Cruiser-1980-TOYOTA-LAND-CRUISER-BJ40-DIESEL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6443QQihZ020QQitemZ300151007846QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Anyone here imported a car from the middle east? They are Right Hand drive there which is nice and prices seem to be a bit better depending on make and model and I have a good friend that could help procure and ship on that end if I find one I like. Diesel Toyota Praddo or Hilux are probably my favorite choices in that market. I'm thinking there HAS to be other options but I didn't run across any. What do you guy's think??? Oh, and I'm starting a new job soon so less travel more Z time and a bit more $$.

Double check your Distributor timing and make sure it's not 180 out.

So you want to swap a ROTARY into your Z! (how-to)

I'm really glad to see this project is still moving forward, and at a faster pace than mine! -
Having an orange car doesn't help, but yeah I think profiliing is a fair call on your part. Don't sweat it, don't do anything wrong and live with it untill you paint your car, get a beater, or get older. Number 2 and 3 worked for me PS Don't paint your car, i love it.

Painless harness to Z column harness (headlight combo switch
BillZ260 replied to georgiaz's topic in Ignition & Electrical
Just to keep the info in this thread, I updated my ignition switch wiring this week. HERE http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=118969 -
OK, I guess I had my HUA in Feb Took some time yesterday to re-analyze the situation with fresh eyes. (It's amazing what 8 months away from home will do for you! At points, I barely remembered I had a Z ) I think that basically, I had my wires connected to the wrong pins on the switch, I can't find my original notes, but I may have just simply just connected them up incorreclty 2 years ago... For the painless kit this is how I ended up hooking everything up, based on the diagram above. Pin 1 = No wires (This one is active against pins 2,3 and 5 when in the "START" position) Pin 2 = Ignition and Coil wires (Orange and Pink) Pin 3 = Starter solinoid (Purple) Pin 4 = Accessory Power (Brown) Pin 5 = 12V Supply (Red) Hope this helps someone else. OH! And I ran across a key, which I thought was an extra Z key so i stuck it in the ignition and it worked. I decided to check it against the Z Key i have been using and they are NOT the same. I think it's from my old 84 Trooper. I'll definitly need to wire in some security measures based on any 'ol key woking in the ignition.

I am really wanting to start building a shop and start doing work like this on the side. I just don't know what type of market there is to support it. I've got the skills, just no equipment. Is the work complex requiring CNC equipment, or is it fairly straight forward stuff?
-
I don't have a ton of room available so I made mine movable. I found a sturdy 2/4 frame design somewhere online and started with that. I used a solid core door for the top which is easy to mound things too and takes lots of abuse and is soft and not too hard on anything you plop down on it. I added some drawers for all my bulky tools and hardware. All this sits on some 4" lockable casters. So it's sturdy, easy to move and can hold lots of junk. I love it.

So is it a legal or an availability issue for the US? I didn't see any websites offering it in the US, all were AU NZ only. Looks like a nice alternitive to the manual butterflys that have been around.

Your in our thoughts. Think positive.

Well, that's no hybridz... but it's an arachnid!

One on the door of the kitchen/garage passthrough and a 2nd at the fireplace. My wife doesn't like the way they look and keeps moving the one in the house to the closet, but I keep putting it back when she's not looking -
Nice work, i really like how simple that console looks.
