  1. a good downpipe. the gain from the 3" will not be as potent if you dont get a nice downpipe, but it will make more than 2.5" in any case with a turbo.
  2. msa makes one that bolts right in, its expensive though they make alum driveshaft too, expensive too
  3. I vote for something different. I would go with the 13btt. It would be something new and it has potential to be extremely fast, just dont pull up to the Black 280zt, hes a killa I had a fc with a tt engine in it, and it kicked butt, 21psi apparently stock everything, and no plates!! I took down a Ls1 camaro in that car, think of what it would be like with 2400lb car!!!! YOU ALREADY HAVE THE ENGINE
  4. thats what Ive been saying!!!!
  5. I just finished sending out a few sets of brackets for it, and probably wont do it again since they are extremely simple to make, and they werent as strong as I can make them now I have a template to work off from. I do have one question---do 77-78 bumpers have the same mounting points for the two hooks as the 75-76??? The next set that I would be making are going to use the tow hook mounting bracket to hold the bumper on the rear, the front will be same-possibly using modified and shortened 73 bumper brackets.
  6. its too bad it doesnt work with our cars, thats for sure. my buddy runs a 91awd talon with big injectors and a bunch of mods and tunes with the afc, he can get the sucker to pass smog with it!!!! IN CALIFORNIA!!!! SDS AIC is another option as well.
  7. hey rated, what does the stage 4 pedal feel like? I just broke in stage 2 spec clutch, and its softer than the valeo clutch in my 2+2!!! it grabs, but im not completely happy..
  8. im about to just pull the one off my 2+2 off and start to die grinding and drilling!
  9. afc needs a LOT of ecu input that the zxt ecu cannot give it, and in order to run it, a lot of these signals must be made available, which can be done, but its a ton of work and still might not work right. I would save the money and frustration and get frustrated over some standalone efi- at least when you get that down, tunability will be awesome.
  10. I love the Turbo scoop on drivers side, its so 80s Somebody grabs all the scoops out of the hoods around here, as soon as i can find me one, Im would like to run that scoop, right over the turbo. I dont want to run passenger side scoop, gets the electronics wet, all the heat is on the driver side anyhow. anyways, lookin good, and yes, an air dam would be nice with your scoops.
  11. odds are that it wont work. stock efi on a zxt doesnt have enough outputs that the afc needs to function correctly. wait for sds.
  12. I would try to talk them into giving you the car and you would pay for the tow. The hatch is easy to find at any jy, I would check extensively for rust. Shoot, the mags are worth at least 100!
  13. it doesnt have a true learning capacity built into it, but when you work on the system, it should be with the ecu unplugged and plug it in when ready to run car again. ecu has ways of dealing with missing sensor outputs, bad or faulty inputs, etc etc, basically it runs rich and slow. It will continue to do so if you dont reset the ecu-you have to clear it before you run it again when problems are fixed. Its the first round of diagnosis for me, and it does work. The learning i talked about means that I do have to drive mine a little slower when I first set it up, afm is taking in its measurements and what not, and if i pound on the gas, it will throw a 4500 rev limiter in the mix for me, which goes away after a short romp on the freeway, usually.
  14. timing is too retarded is what it sounds like to me, leave the afm alone...
  15. yokohama makes a 215/60 that looks great on a 6", its a little wider than the tire, but has a great contact patch.
  16. I think with your setup you would be more prone to burning rubber on the low end. With a jpipe and 10psi, with your press bent exhaust, you are making a whole lot of low end hp and torque, and with no intercooler to pressurize, it should hit pretty hard, and when I ran my car with no intercooler and 10psi, breaking tires loose was an everyday occurance Now I save it for the offramps..
  17. cheapest way to get l28et with efi ecu and what not, r200, t5 and all acc is to buy the car or shop around. I got my donor that ran for 200, and sold the tranny for 400!!!
  18. the only quick way to break it in is to drive it very often, with a light foot of course, with varying speeds. I did smoke a little after the first rebuild, but it went away after the first oil change, didnt use very much oil, I was VERY generous with the assembly lube.
  19. Factory turbo motor is good, thats for sure, its cr is ridiculously low for me. Once I get the new turbo on, we'll see about off boost response, its close to hat Jtaylor is selling here, but I got BALL BEARING OPTION!!!! Does the flat top combo work? YES. My engine still runs close to factory compression, and I like it with the t3, will I like it with the big dog turbo, we will see. I like higher compression, and Ive seen too many examples of 8 and above cr on turbo L motors to be discouraged.
  20. So far, im not impressed. I just installed 240mm STAGE 2 turbo clutch-guaranteeed to be good for 450lbs, well see if its good for 320 or so first. Install was regular I guess, just remember the big flywheel uses 9 bolts on the pp vs. na 6 bolt. I used a new mounting hub from Nissan, only to find out it was the same as the one I was running!!! I swapped them out anyways to be safe. Did clutch install by the book and used a torque wrench on flywheel and pp bolts. I found out what caused my clutch slippage issues as well- The time I went to the track on my old clutch when the throttle locked up on me, I warped and hotspotted the flywheel something AWFUL, the clutch still has a lot of material on it and is getting saved for a rainy day. Tranny was on the floor in an hour flat, its been a long time working from the floor on a clutch install, so it took me a while to get it back in, but for once, THE SUCKER SLID STRAIGHT IN ON THE FIRST TRY!!!!!!!!!! After all the checking and double checks were done, I took her for a drive, I think I have to adjust the pedal a little bit, it shifts kinda clunky. I was looking for a light clutch, this clutch feels dang right OEM!!! Not slipping or anything, but the clutch just doesnt have the right feel for a performance clutch, in two weeks Ill know for sure, that should be good enough time for break in, 60 miles a day commute 4 days a week for two weeks plus running errands, But I dont have a good feeling about this one...... I will be extremely upset if this thing lets me down and will be goign ACT if it does..., My back is killing me!!!!!
  21. 2004r all the way. nicer gear spread, better od, almost as small as a th350
  22. thats comparing a fully loaded 78 280z with the whole nine of factory options ( z was more and more becoming more of a gt car than a sports car and this trend evolves from the 77-83 models) vs. the bare bones version of the zx, now add up the options, it wont even be close. Im a 280z fan and I remember strange facts like this. ITS NOT A FAIR COMPARISON 77-8 280 would be the heaviest, they have thick door bars and a slightly thicker frame than earlier 280z 75- I have a 11/74 280z, and it has no door bars, but the thicker frame and suspension of the later years, some came with the car, the rest i bolted in. I havent weighed it yet but I suspect that my car is actually a late 260z body with efi and r200 (stock baby!) 76-gets a little heavier, but not as heavy as the 78 Carbed or injected, I like the 280z over a 240z for a v8 swap, just make sure it has an r200 and youre pretty much set. If you go for the EFI swap, its easier in a 280z, if you go carbs, its just as easy, you just need to tear a whole lot more stuff out of the car than a 240z. How much wiring do you need to setup a carb v8, really not much. HONESTLY with 400 true rwhp, I really doubt youll notice the difference. With an automatic, either body should be ok, with a manual trans, the 240 will need extensive frame reinforcement, the earlier ones like a 70-1 will need even more. A 280z can be made into a full frame car with two well fabbed triangular steel plates and one afternoon with the mig, die grinder, and sawzall. Either way, you would have nearly 1000lb curb weight advantage on any v8 oem equipped vehicle with either model!!! My 75 handles ok and drives well at high speeds, with a stock suspension with some urethane in it. I have a factory rear sway bar with urethane mounts and endlinks, and a 1" bar up front, it squats a bunch, but doesnt clunk or roll very much in corners=its very solid. Once I get some shocks and springs in there, I hope to light overpasses on fire with the drifting tire smoke!!!! I also run a 240 bumper in front and ditched the crash bumpers, the rear one is in the works and will complete my Wangan midnite look And yes, If i wanted to hook it back up again, my z would have AC too, as it is stock on most 280z models=thats right.
  23. I used to Valet graveyard at a Casino. It sucked, because 90 percent of the people there come out upset and broke, and wont even let me drive their cars up to them because they wont tip. I have got some great tips, but not as often as getting stiffed and hit with the sob stories.
  24. I like eighties synthpop and new age and cruise to it alot, I think the car likes it too. Depeche Mode, New world order, Cure, Joy division, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Morrissey, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, and more I cant think of right now, too tired. I also dig Nine Inch Nails to no end, as well as trance, and hard house music. To spice it up a bit, I listen to Bay Area/Northern California/ Reality Rap Music/Hip Hop, indigenous music and otherwise music that I can relate to. e40-top billing, no one talk when he does. Getlowplayas, RBL, Cellski, Too Short, Lil Jon, Ludicris, Scarface,Rappin FoeTAY, Dre Dog (I dont listen to Nicatinas reformed music, I listen to the real stuff, Dre DOG) IMP, JayZ, Tupac-RIPower, Notorious BIG (great lyricist, I respect that but Tupac led the West Coast movement on levels most can understand, something Biggie couldnt ever do, but it is sad to see him leave this world as well and I would have loved to see what his muse could produce if he was with us today) RIPower, Hotboys, Birdman aka Juvenile, Nas, Mobb Deep---sing along if you know the lyrics The mobb comes equipped with warfare beware Of a crime family that got nuff shots to share for all those who like to profile and pose ill stab you in your face slice your throat with your nosebone your all alone in these streets cousin we keep them shook fools running like they suppose too they come around but they never come close to I can see it inside your face Your in the wrong place Cowards like you just get your whole body laced up with bullet holes and such speak the wrong words man and you can get touched who knows the rest.....? I listen to Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, and traditional Taiwanese pop intermittantly, and News Radio in stop and go traffic.
  25. man, thats terrible Jerz did you crank it up with coil unplugged and oil line unhooked to see if it wasnt clogged? It may have starved out for oil, but I doubt it. Hope the next one goes better.
