  1. hes wrong bolts in. easy. same clutch. grab the driveshaft, may come in handy.
  2. thick is good, 3/8 should be fine on the flange. turbo should be fine too, what kind of fuel setup are you running or planning on?
  3. could be battery, loose connection to fusible links box off positive battery terminal. then i would go down the food chain of voltage. alternator, starter leads, anything in the charging system. i would check the power transistor, one of its favorite signs is that stalling, to tell you it wants out. i would see what kind of voltage that is getting. but I would do a few things first. I would check grounding through the ecu pins, and clean them underhood first. Actually put this first, I actually had the same thing happen to me, and it turns out when I unplugged and plugged back in the ecu, it stopped???
  4. I would plug the pov with a 1" plug first off, and see if taht does anything. To trouble shoot the vacum egr and stuff, I would remove vacum and plug all the lines and sources on manifold and the equipment it self, then try it. Vacum is good right, you dont have an air leak from the j pipe or intercooler pipe, blowoff valve flange, afm boot???? Teething problems, thats all. Good Luck
  5. I would drop the 283 like a bad habit. a 350 weighs and sits the same and displaces 67 more cubes!!! I can understand wanting a high reving engine, that may not be practical on a pump gas street engine though. If you are going to go with a sbc, you should at least use the general standard entry level displacement small block---a 350.
  6. 440cc and a stock turbo with a standalone-you can get dang near 300hp without spending any more than you did, thats all im saying. efficient-of course not.
  7. its not the gas, leave that gas in. what else have you checked?
  8. I wouldnt do anything with the turbo yet. My reasoning for this is that you have the ability to custom tailor your fuel curve to suit making power at high boost and maintain it. Yes, while the turbo may be inefficient at making power, you can make up for it in some part by being able to fuel it at high boost/rpm levels, which is something most of us with the factory fuel curves cant really compensate for as good as a standalone situation. 300hp or close to it can be done with that turbo, since you do have the fuel to support it and the ability to tune it a lot better than alot of us can.
  9. you can do anything you want I would fix all the shorts in the system you have now, find the sources, you really dont want to swap fuse boxes and keep blowing new fuses right? I replaced almost every white/red wire with a larger guage high quality monster cable wire, and fixed almost every other connection on the car, cleaned every connector from the switches, guages, hazard lights, brakes, and what not. ALso changed out a lot of sockets on the car with zx and later sockets, cleanest ones I could find in the Jy. My car had a real gremlin problem at one point, and I decided enough was enough and just went apesh1t with the wiring. I got another stock fuse box, cleaned it and improved the soldering on the back of it, had no issues with it, and didnt have to change any of the connections to any of it. I do still run the ugly fusible links, I am going to run monster cable inline fuses for it sooner or later. Nobody knows until now, but Im a Monster Cable vendor, and I use only Monster Cable on most of the stuff on my car electrical, except for my ghetto stereo system....
  10. the 240z one is 399 or so, not cheap the 300zx is cheap, and its a good quality unit, blade fuse type, may take some time to wire correctly. the z fuse box isnt problematic in itself, its the aged wiring......
  11. And if you are new to EFI, don't jump right into this swap. Install the factory system and get that going. Troubleshoot it and otherwise get to know EFI. what he said 8)
  12. msa makes a nice drop in fuse box for 240z if you catch a short and fuse keeps blowing, fix the problem before putting in another fuse. fuse boxes dont know where they are, you can wire any fuse box into your car, but the datsun wiring can be tricky sometimes with using ground instead of power sometimes. 280zxt fusebox is nice, 300zx fusebox also very nice one, and fusible links as well.
  13. yeah, isnt the best idea on stock fuel system. intercooler mandatory.
  14. The early 75 280z is a later 260z with efi and r200 (some models) My 75 has a thicker frame, and no door bars, dont know if thats good or not yet and I hope I never do. Only difference visually is the bumpers and center console-bumpers are gone and i dont mind the center console.
  15. I would intercool it before doing anything else. double digits of boost on stock system w/0 intercooler isnt good. I have run 15-18psi of boost with j pipe, on full tanks of 110/91 , really high fuel pressure, retarded timing, and visions of money racing on my mind. didnt ping, but wasnt the safest setup either. "oh no intercooler, 40 dollar race, sure" ah yes.
  16. I took my rear bar off probably 10 times before a friend showed me I didn't have to. Saves a lot of time to pry the driveshaft past it. I always seem to have to wrench the nuts all the way off to. It's a real PITA in my Z. Jon duh! I never thought about that one, good one!! that would work!! Im the guy that pulled his rear sway bar off if i broke driveshaft bolts (common thing in my old v8z) i could replace em faster. The rear sway bar goes back in now, thanx for the tip. the head of the bolts always stay put pretty good when i do mine, requiring only one wrench. the stock Z bolts are pretty dang strong, you need to wrench em all the way off... The turbo zxt driveshaft bolts are the stuff if you can get them, allen headed and TOUGH...

    fjo????

ill tell you for sure tommorow, i have to go down there, hes making pulls right now and broke his tps somehow, who does he call?
  18. im in union city. every z near me is either hybrid or wants to be
  19. white with red stripe thick guage, thats the lead you want to make a 10ga wire for power at the alt.
  20. when I looked in my manual last, when it shows z31 harness pinout, na and turbo are shown together, while 70-83 turbo and NA are completely different. I believe they are the same for the most part, just from looking at the book, but cant be sure.
