  1. The BOV is way up front on top, it's quiet. I thought of listening to that also. I have had the TO4B compressor on there for over two years and the squealing just started yesterday. Could be, but it sounds a little more related to engine pulsations.
  2. OK Here is a video of the squeaking. The engine sounds a lot noisier in the video. It's actually a very quiet motor with the hydraulic head. The squeaking sounds like it's from under the intake manifold. http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/Mouse_in_the_Z.avi Any Idea?

    Squeaker

    What is this sound?
  4. That's pretty much what mine looks like except I dont have a welder so I used a couple of bolts in place of the weld. I mad a U-Shaped shackle, wrapped it under the crossmember and bolted it to the mount like that. I used a rubber sheet to insulate it on the bottom of the crossmember.
  5. So maybe my manifold, heated up so much from all this playing around that I warped it or burned the gasket and that's why my motor is chirping like a bird under load....Oh well. Time to track down the chirp and probably buy some new gaskets. I am trying to find that Grafoil gasket for the exh. manifold but am having no luck.
  6. That's correct. It has to be in a tech section to count as a post. Don't worry, I didn't notice until my 1000th post...LOL.
  7. I hope this starts a new trend and we can finally say good bye to Lambo Doors.
  8. Good guess. That crossed my mind too but it's definitely not coming from the front of the motor. It's more under the intake manifold towards the firewall. Tonight I will scope it out with a piece of hose and my ear. I wonder if a stuck wasegate puck could whistle like that? I will try to manualy move the wastegate tonight. The problem is that I can only make it chirp three or four quick chirps by reving the motor in neutral.
  9. Yeah the car has AC. But it's definielty an engine load related sound...or maybe something metal that is loose which vibrates and squeaks with engine vibration. It's weird. I have heard exhaust manifold leaks before but I never heard one that chirps. The noise is not the belts but it's a similar squeak. Have you ever heard the WRC cars squeak when they go by...that's sort of what it sounds like. Here: have fun watching this...lisen for the squeak. Thats what mine sounds like only mine squeeks under load all the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMSBNm4mmQs
  10. Buzz has it on his 280Z. It's loud and sweet.
  11. Tony D thanks for that tid bit as I may be shopping for a new ex. manifold gasket very soon... Graphoil turned up no results in google though? Any sources you might suggest? Aha!!! I found it. http://www.grafoil-gaskets.com/
  12. Last night I was driving around with a slightly modified tune in the MS. Nothing major just a little richer in the cruise range. The car was running very well. I started hearing a faint psstt psst pssst pssst under light and medium engine load. It was so faint it was probably half as loud as ping. Then it started to get louder and sound more like a peep peep peep peep, now it's an all out squeal squeal squeal at the frequency of the engine under load. It only does it under light to moderate loads. I didnt try it at full throttle because I didn't want to damage whatever it is any further. It sounds like a loose belt or a rubber ducky squeek when I load the engine or rev it in neutral. It almost sounds like a dry bearing squeal or a bird caller. Any ideas? It sounds like it's coming from the left side of the motor down low around the turbo area. Wastegate? Intake gasket? Exhaust Gasket? I checked all the hoses already because that was my first guess. I will try to get a recording of it tonight. http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/Mouse_in_the_Z.avi
  13. My wife will probably stay home with the baby. If the weather is good, she might come in a separate car with the baby. There is the beach which the girls could hang out at while we BS about Z's...and girls. It's a really nice park for hiking, biking, swimming so there is stuff to do. There are built in barbecues and picnic tables although if the weather is really nice, it may be somewhat crowded. There are about three different day use areas in the park, none of which I have ever seen too full.
  14. Two hours on the thruway is a pretty smooth ride. Got a radar detector?
  15. Yeah the tri-state area is too big! It will be worth the trip though. It's a nice area.

  17. Definitelty doesn't SOUND like a sleeper! Nice!!!
  18. Lets use the Lake Tiorati Beach area. There is shady parking, barbecues, tables, and the beach. http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.asp?parkID=49
  19. Hmm, I was there with my Z about 5 years ago and took no flak. I don't ever go there so I don't know the "rules". Anyhow, we want to avoid any possible aggravations so we should avoid that place for now. TeamNissan, It was years ago! The bikes were carried on my parents 82 Ford Escort. Sad to hear that it's no longer a positive place for kids to enjoy.
  20. If you want something done right... None of my cars ever leave my hands for any work unless it's extremely difficult or impossible for me to do it myself. The only times any of my cars have been worked on by someone else, were for dealer recalls and a couple of fluid changes. Even then, I double check all their work. There are not many people you can trust anymore. If you find one, keep them near and dear.
  21. Good luck to all those over in Z Motherland. I hope you all made it through the 6.8 http://www.yahoo.com/s/628313
  22. Cool you pretty much corroborate my experience of 15:1, I know it's all about combustion chamber design and atomization/distribution so I guess the "poor" lean-burn characteristics of the L28ET are a limiting factor.
  23. Silly me.... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=111088&highlight=lean+cruise+AFR Where is the "I slap myself" icon? I guess the short answer is...how lean, depends on how un-driveable can you tolerate. It's all for experimentation anyhow. Not really trying to make a hero out of the MS. Just playing
  24. We all know that NONE of us can leave well enough, alone. My Z is running spectaculary after a few weeks of street tuning. But of course I can't leave it alone. I have the "tweak gene" in my blood. So I decided to see if I could improve my fuel mileage by leaning out the AFR's in the cruise areas of the map. So far I have 15:1 in the 1500-2000RPM bands at 40-70Kpa. I can definitely feel a "hole" in that part of the map when I drive. How lean has anyone gotten the L28ET in the highway cruise range? I don't feel I can go much leaner unless I try a different load range or something. I want to see if I can beat the factory EFI in MPG's. What's the best way to handle ignition timing for good lean burn?
  25. Looks better than the work from Unique Whips! BoOm-BoOm-ThuMp. I used to have a loose head unit with AM-FM-Cassete, in my glovebox and one big livingroom wooden speaker sloshing around in my trunk. Yours is pro compared to what I had.
