  1. Sounds to me like your TPS has gone bad.replace that and then PM me if you have any more questions.
  2. Anyone put draglites on there s130?
  3. Im thinking of going with Rebellos 3L kit..its an off-set ground P30 crankshaft with eagle H-beam rods and forged JE pistons. Anyone have this kit in there Z? I plan to use a welded (36cc) and fully ported N42 head abd run 12.5:1 CR on race gas.If you have experience with this build, please outline your experience and pros and cons with this kit vs the vo7 crankshaft.thank you happy Z-ing
  4. If it were me,id get the rebello 3L kit...strong,fully balanced...all forged...ARP bolt kit,racing bearings, H beam rods, JE pistons... $2250 usa
  5. Im wanting to do the same thing.AZC has rear panels cheap...im just going to buy them and have my buddies shop weld them in.I have rust only around my Windows.fllor and everything else was replaced by previous owner
  6. "IF BUILT RIGHT AND NEW" SU carbs Pros and cons (from experience) PROs : - Easy tunability - Great MPG - retro/ Stock look - Great preformance In MOST setups - sidedraft carb for Inline engines CONs : - Hard to find parts - Not enough fuel and air for Larger camshafts (500+ lift) - Restrictive choke design carbs HOLLEY SetUp (Also from experience) PROs : - Easy to find parts - Great for bigger cams and port work - Accel Pump shot - More CFM - Cooler Look - Different - Great preformance - many options, Even EFI! CONs : - American parts on Jap car - Harder to tune and keep in tune - Bad MPG - Cable linkage instead of solid ------------------------------------------ This list is based on a Perfectly tuned set up. the SUs run great if tuned right, and so does the Holley. The 4 barrel just takes a little more tuning to get right but once its there, it works great over the SUs if you are running big ports, cam, exhaust etc.. hope this shed some light on everyone. I have used both. I still have my SUs but I'm still RUNNING the 4 barrel You Decide !
  7. For a Daily, Id say go with the SU carbs. If you have any Decent size cam 560lift + then id get the holley and or triple Weber/Mikunie set up.the SU carbs (No matter what anyone tells you) Will NOT support a BIG cam and give you the best results. If you have a stock engine or a MILD build with a cam less than 500 lift, SU carbs are far better as far as tunability and MPG and will work fine for that set up.I dont know why no one has disscussed the use of a 4 barrel with a BIG cam,Ports etc...the SUs dont even come close when it comes to more air and fuel.there just EASIER to deal with. IMO and EXPERIENCE, there both great setups if you know how to tune them both right. It all comes down to what you want the car to do and what your SETUP is. Since you are looking at the Z being a DD, Get the SUs until you dont care about MPG
  8. Send me a PM on your results. I am thinking about doing the same thing and fitting a 77 into my 82. If it works for you, let me know how you did it. thanks
  9. Awesome reply.Exactly what i needed to know. I still think its crazy how many cars i beat with a 1000-1200 rpm drop between gears lol.im excited to see how the 4.11s act. Getting a slightly lighter flywheel as well.
  10. Can someone please PM me as to how 4.11 Gears will be in my 280Z (Acceleration,Gear run on,More snap?etc...). I currently have 3.54s and it is not my daily driver.I dont Care about MPG because it is a light to light car and rarely driven.I have the later N/A 5 speed (1983).It was Auto but i swapped it over which is why i have 3.54 gears in the rear end. 3.2L- with 560 lift cam/318 durration.
  11. the BW tranz has awesome gears for a 3:90.It came out of the Turbo cars and had 3:54 gears to help the turbo build boost. So getting the BW tranz and putting some 4;11s in that puppy, It would make an awesome light to light car. Also, Are you keeping the engine stock? Or do you plan to run a bigger cam? the 4;11s will be great to keep you in the powerband if going with a larger cam.If you do decide to get the 4:11 gears, get your self a lighter flywheel and a rev limiter.also get your tack accurate.last thing you want to do is pull 1st gear to high with cast pistons and a dizzy thats only "good" until 6500rpms...cheers
  12. I have also been wondering the same thing.I am using the holley manifold with a 390cfm carb and I was also thinking of trying out the TB efi.If you try it before me,please post your results
  13. with just the over bore, not much gain will be seen...Now if you up the Compretion Ratio to around 10.0:1 and add a mild to hot cam, (im running 560 lift but you need stiffer springs to run this) and a 2.5in exhaust (free flowing) it will pull pretty nice. Also, since it is a 240z,a great upgrade for wicked Light to Light power is the 82-83 5 speed with the 3.90 Diff or even the 4.11 Diff from the 240sx (85-86).if you really want some L6 power in your 240z,either get a junked L28et or just the l28 and go stroker with it.the turbo stuff is way cool though and much cheeper for your HP in the end.cheers
  14. Just from my own personal experience. My first set up on my L2(9) stroker was two Side draft roundtop SU carbs vary clean and in new condition running modded SM needles with a mild cam 274dur-480lift. The proformance was great.decent mialage aswell.remind you this is a fully restored engine with no miles on it in the begining. The cam came on decent but still not enought.Seeing how the SU carbs bring in around 152cfm each (304cfm) toatal, I decided to go ahead and buy the holley setup.I removed the choke plate to start with because i live in florida and theres really no need for one here.My buddy who was a machanic for 50 years tuned and jetted the holley for me to sute my power band. The car never pulled so hard.BIG improvment over my SU set up.I have since Installed a much larger Isky cam 308dur-560 lift and the carb handles every bit of it.had to retune it for my new cam but as far as profomance engines goes, the holley is by far a much better set up.it really wakes the car up.a friend of mine is running the arazona manifold with a holley 540cfm carb and a HUGE cam at least 2 steps up from mine.it pulls like a bat out of hell all the way to 8000rpm (his is race only). But as stated,Crisp response, decent economy (who cares, its a Z) and works way better than SU carbs when it comes to a Cam that is much larger than a mild street cam.My cam is rated to be used off road but with the holley it is vary streetable.Dynos will be posted soon. 15. how do you use a n/a dizzy for a turbo set up? can it be done if you go aftermarket ECU like MegaSquirt?
  16. can someone PM me as to what the differences are between the s130 n/a distributer and the turbo dizzy. i modded my n/a dizzy to be able to run 25 int advanced and 46 total.i dont run this much by no means.but i am going to be turbo charging my stroker and would like to know if getting the turbo dizzy and shaft is really nessasary., thanks Randall. *Donating this week !!! *
  17. i know that the Z cars are unibodys.when doing the V8 swap,do you have to change out the rear end and drive shaft or just the tranny/Engine mounts? just interested in what the actual cons would be.i thought about dropping in a 400 small block i have in the shed (67,000 Oringinal miles).but i wasnt sure if I would have to change out the rear end.i love the independent susspention in the Z cars.they handel well so i wouldnt want to go changing the rear end.my question is, am i able to just make the custom mounts, move the engine back a bit and still heep the same driveshaft, differential etc......?
  18. wow,im actually building me a L28et Stroker...the RB20det would be sweet though.i love what you are planing to do.much resepect! good luck and keep us posted on the cool project!
  19. I have to go with the gt35...spools beautifully.getting a turbo car to breath better is far more efficient than adding boost.
  20. im supprised that 12lb of boost only gets a Zx into the low 14s high 13s.does your Zx still have all the accesories? A/C, Power steering etc...
  21. You all gave great responses.i really like tony Ds idea.using carbs but gutting them and going efi.MS from the information iv gathered is the way to go all around.i will keep everyone posted on my build.cheers
  22. hey guys! I was just wondering, is it possible to use a non-EGR intake manifold with the stock 280zx turbo ECU? also,if i upgrade the injectors to 320cc,can the stock computer run with this? im turning my n/a into a turbo and dont have the cash to go aftermarket engine managment yet,so i would like to use the following.. (looking for 250-300 hp). stock turbo ECU Turbo dizzy N42 intake manifold (Non-EGR) Stock turbo and turbo manifold FMIC Pipping for turbo/IC Manual boost controler. 320cc injectors. custom fuel rail. imsight? Randall
  23. Hey Zers! Well its come time to turn my stroker 280zx into a stroker turbo..right now i have 10:1 CR. I plan to install forged J.E Dished pistons and a 2.5mm HG. this should bring my comp down to a low enough leval to turbo charge.my biggest concern is going with an aftermarket EFI..im running tripple 44 mikunis right now.im thinking of using the N42 non-EGR intake manifold and a 70mm TB.greedy boost controller.Megasquirt 2,MSD 6-2.t3/t4 turbo,720cc injectors.blow off valve/waste gate etc..im wondering what sensors are needed to use megasquirt for my fuel control only.am i able to use MS for fuel only and use MSD 6 for my spark control? if this works, can someone please give me a short write up as to how to go about setting this up.im pretty new to EFI as i grew up with carbs (and im 21). Please, any insight on this would be great. P.S- I plan to run 17-20lb boost MAX! thanks~ Randall
