An Alternative Steel wheel?
19762802+2 replied to 19762802+2's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I didn't say they stopped making custom wheels, just that I heard that they stopped making 17in. I will call them sometime for sure. -
I have been looking for rims to buy for my car lately, and I liked the Design that Diamond Racing wheels has to offer but I heard they no longer make 17in rims and Its not easy finding wide tires for 15 or 16in rims. So I did some searching and found a site that does Custom wheels, Widening, etc. I also found out they make some Rims in 17x9 that have the same design as the Diamond racing wheels (D-window design). I'm sure the wheels will be heavy, but if they are too heavy I might consider something else, My car will be more of a cruiser then anything else since it is a 2+2. The ones I will be looking into from them are the Explorer 72 series, and in their catalog they go for $167 a piece. I have been emailing the guy's there to see if it would be possible to do it in a 4x114.3 pattern with the Explorer series rim and I'm waiting to hear back from them. I did ask them if they made them in 17x10 and they don't, so that was a bummer but I think It will end up nicer just running the same width tires all the way around for when I purchase tires so I don't have a staggered set up. They also do different styles of Steel wheels and I think aluminum and Alloy for any of you that would be interested in a different style but I thought I would post this site as a possible alternative to Diamond racing Wheels and The few other companies that make wheels as well. They also can build your rim to the Offset and backspacing that you want. I'm hoping they will be able to do it in a 4 lug pattern, I will be sure to update this when I hear back from them. If the can't it may be enough to convince me to do a 5 lug swap depending on the weight of the wheels if they are too excessive I would probably just go with the Rota's. I would love to here some input from some other Tire and rim Guru's on some thoughts and concerns about doing steel wheels and some disadvantages or advantages of steel wheels and the effects of heavier rims. Here is a picture of the Explorer Series. Here is the link to the Site. http://www.stocktonwheel.com/index.php

The driver is a big part of the safety of the vehicle too. If your an aggressive driver and put yourself in situations where you could get in an accident (running red lights, speeding, etc., etc.) then any vehicle can be dangerous even if it is more modern and has a lot more safety features. If your a defensive driver and try to do everything you can to avoid an accident you are more likely to be safe and survive a crash. Sure their are certain scenarios where its out of your control and there isn't much you can do about that except always be alert and cautious. People have died in modern vehicles also just because they have airbags and all the extra stuff doesn't always mean they are safer, People have been killed because of airbags as well.

The 240z and 280z bushings are different so I'm guessing the caps are different also, A lot of things could be different on your car that could have been changed like the caps, the rack, the crossmember(possibly). I'm not sure if some of these parts are even swappable. Just do some research and that should help you eliminate what parts you have and that are different. Sorry to have to add more to your problem.

Just delete System 32, It fixes everything. (but really don't it will mess it up)

I'm 17 and I live in Colorado springs, In the Old Colorado City district or the Westside whichever you prefer to call it. I have lived here a few months I work at the Discount Tire on 8th Street and I'm studying to get my GED and start college a little early, I plan on taking some Economics and probably some business for now (I want to start my own business eventually) I plan on taking some welding and other fun courses later. I have always been around cars since I was a kid and The first car I remember my family having was a 1967 Ford LTD 4 Door with a 390. We took it to car shows a lot and that mainly sparked my interest in cars, My dad was a home mechanic and had a lot of mechanic friends so I was always exposed to that. I decided to buy my first project car when I was 14 I didn't know what I was going to get but I saw a 75' 2+2 one day on the way to church and picked it up for $350, I'm on my second Z now (first was rusty, bought new better shell, swapped motors) I know have owned a Z for 3+ years and almost done with my current one, and thats how I got into the Datsun scene.

I have seen it before, and Its most likely fake, If it was photoshopped or it was just a story made up at the time. Most people on there are either smart enough not to trust it or should know better. If its true then its their own fault they took anything on that site seriously.

I wish I had read that before I watched it being half asleep and not expecting a loud noise coming through your headphones, Well you get the Idea haha. I need to make a video of my car sometime, I just have 3-2 header, straight exhaust and an exhaust I cut off some 240sx I found at the junkyard Its pretty loud but sounds awesome.

I can't say much as I have never done it but my Dad was a Machinist when I was younger and he quit after a few years, He loved the money it made but he always told me He hated being mentally tired everyday coming home from work and that he would much rather be physically tired then mentally tired. I don't know if that applies or not, and everyone is different about that but that is just one point of view. Anyways I think you should be able to search google about it, yeah its nice to get some advice from some guys who have done it but I'm sure some will say search. You may also want to talk to some people at your college in the program and maybe the teacher(s) as well.

You also have to think about the market for cars in your area, Do most people in your area like to buy classic cars that have been modified? I know I can tell what most people like to drive in the area I live in. You can also tell by how much they are selling for, If you try to sell it in your area what will people be willing to pay? If your planning on shipping if you have to then its not too much of a concern, but I know I live in an area with a lot of people that like nice cars or classic cars and I wouldn't have too much trouble selling my Z if I had too. Just some things to think about, Also how much money do you have into the car and how much of that do you want to see back? You may not be able to get all you put into it back but you may get part of it.

Not to be cruel that makes it look like the car has buckteeth. I would do some reading about aerodynamics I think there are a few threads about it on here concerning the front grill area. I think the more open you have it but channel everything into the radiator area will look the best and work the best. Just my 2 cents.

Motorsportauto sells those and since your in Cali it shouldn't be too hard to get depending on where you live in relation to their store.

I think in different cars you feel speed in different ways, I notice in My Bug it feels like I'm going fast when I shift at high rpms because the thing kicks around like a horse haha. There have been threads discussing the whole "Butt dyno" etc. Also I think the size of the car and Height of the car plays a part too, If your in a big tall truck going 50 it feels different when your in a low compact car going 50. -
I drew this picture a few years ago when I was more into art and sketching Now I just don't really have the time anymore, or a scanner, I do have some newer sketches I need to scan though.

They are most likely just pictures that were lost in the site change. I can't see the pictures you mention either so its possible they were uploaded using another site like Photobucket and were either deleted from there or moved.

It was a joke, But anyways the wheels are still around they need new tires really bad and I have all the lugs for them to go on a Z, I need to buy some lugnuts so I can put the stock tires back on the car they are on at the moment.

Last night I installed a new battery, a Fuse for the ECU connections to the battery, Bought some bolts for the LCA to the Strut assembly, Also worked on installing the Gmachine Tension rod upgrade but have some tweaking to do with that still. the "Lips" that are supposed to be spot welded on the chassis rusted off and came off when I took the stock TC rod off. I also finished up modifying the stock throttle body to look a bit cleaner and installed a Air Filter. Last night was a good night.
