  1. Try removing the linkage between the carbs so that both carbs are mounted but there is nothing connecting them to each other or to the throttle linkage. Without seeing it, my guess would be that you have the linkage that's between the carbs in the wrong place, meaning that one of them is being held open. Actually, if you have a mirror, you can remove the aircleaner and pull up the piston in the carbs and look at the throttle plates with the mirror. You should be able ot see which one is being held open. Joe
  2. Like tannji said, it looks like condensation from a temperature change to me. Joe
  3. Hahaa, sorry man! Sure, kuddo's to Dr Hunt! Still trying to figure this out. Guess I'm not doing such a great job. Joe
  4. Hi Pyro, Yep, I agree with everything you say. Unfortunately, I have what I have when it comes to the pistons. Do you think there is anything that can be done to the shape of the chamber to increase the swirl characteristics to decrease the chances of detonation? So far the only thing that I'm sure of is the use of a P90 seems like the way to go. Joe
  5. Posts in Non Tech don't register towards your total.
  6. I'm willing to use my garage as a meeting place. We could make it like a MiKelly shindig of the northeast. Let me know, I should be free with the exception of Labor Day weekend. Joe
  7. Thanks Chris, The car is now down in Kentucky getting sprayed by MusPuppis. Here are a few pictures. http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h16/jragno/Arts/
  8. AK-Z, See that's my dilema. I have a few E31's, a few P90's, a P79 and an E88. I want to start out with the right one that, with the right work, will give me the best results. I guess I'll also be changing the cam so if anyone has had good luck with a specific grind, I'm all ears. Oh and AK, don't worry about the posting while you should be sleeping thing. We all do it Joe
  9. Thanks Jason. Have you done any port work on your head? And if so, how much did the boost drop after the porting? Right now I run between 15 and 16 pounds on a T04E/T3. I've never had the car on the dyno and I know it can be tuned for more power. I use a TEC II and the car runs pretty good but I am far from a tuner! I'd love to learn from somone how to tune the TEC but there really isn't anyone in my area that knows how. Or I just haven't found them So now it's trial an error.
  10. I realize I don't post that often, but after six years and I'm still an "Unknown Entity" I'm starting to feel really insignificant! j/k Joe
  11. Yes it's turbocharged. The reason for the piston choice was so I could use the bottom end for a 8.5-1 turbo motor with a P90 or a 10.2-1 NA motor with an E31. I'd like to concentrate my efforts on getting a head to flow and minimize detonation with flow characteristics. Joe
  12. Well the time has come to get serious about making some power. My short block consists of a 3 liter config using a diesel crank 240 rods and custom Ross flat top pistons that are 1mm down in the bore. Currently I am using a P90 that is bone stock. Power is pretty good but I know it can be a lot better. I am planning on sending a head to Paul (Braap) to have some work done. My question is which head? I'd like to get as many ideas as possible before getting started. For the head choice, I'm open for anything. The only thing I don't want to do is touch the bottom end. I know I'll get a lot of flack for having pistons with flat tops that are 1mm in the hole but there was a reason for doing it that way and so it stays. I guess I shoud say that this config gives a cr ratio of 8.5 to 1 when using a P90. Any Ideas guys?? Joe
  13. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good chrome shop? With all of the laws changing on plating in NJ it seems like all of the places I used to use are now gone. Also, the closer to NJ the better as those battering ram 78 bumpers are somewhat heavy and will probably cost an arm and a leg to ship. Thanks. Joe
  14. Well it took me three months but I finally got the Black Pearl down to John and Brian's place ...........after a 12 hour drive. I have to say I was very worried about dropping the car off so far from him without knowing anything about John. But after meeting John and his pal Brian, my worries have been squashed. They remind me of myself 20 years ago! They have some very cool projects going on in the garage. I wish they lived closer as I'd love to be involved! Stay tuned for progress pics as the project moves along. And John, feel free to post the pics here as you wish. Joe
  15. Anyone down for helping swap out a shortblock when I'm ready? I'm headed for the shore today and will be bouncing back and forth from there for the next two weeks. If I'm up when you guys want to hook up I'm in. Joe
  16. Forrest, I think I'm having thr same problem as you. A very low pedal. I'm attributing the problem to the rear disks. How did I come about this diagnosis? It's the only thing left and I still don't understand how the adjustment/spinning piston works. Have you checked to see if the slight pedal pressure that you say moves the calipers is having the same clamping force on a rear wheel? If you ever figure it out I'd sure like to know what you did! Joe
  17. I don't know if you have considered used, but a bunch of us are using the TEC II. Admittedly less powerful than the TEC3 or Haltec but in my opinion still a very good unit. Joe
  18. I'm sorry for getting to this post so late. Millsan1, your very close to me and I have done just about everything you are talking about to my 71. You can stop by anytime and see if my car meets your expectations for power. And I agree with everyone here. Stock exhaust manifold is fine. There are many other areas that will need your money. Joe
  19. I guess I should have continued to watch this thread. Tube, who did your car and how long ago? That looks almost exactly like how I did my car! The only difference I can see is I used 2x3 .120 and I took the rocker boxes off and welded the box tube directly to the inner rocker. Plated the back just like yours. Dropped the front down to 1x3 and fit it through the front just like you did and tied it to the TC cup with a 1.75 .120 tube. I also welded 1x3 from the rocker to the trans tunnel over the floor behind the seat and covered it with sheet metal. Sorta raised the floor by 3 inches. This gave me something to tie the roll bar to with another piece of 1.75 tube. Mine was done in 82 in NJ. Since no one answered the first time I'll ask again. Has anyone seen braces that tie the TC cup to the front crossmember? It was built to bolt on with 2 holes drilled into the insode of the TC cup. Joe
  20. Will, First thing I would do is see if the construction site is marked stating that the speed limit is reduced because of rough road surface. If not, then I would say his careless driving is not valid. I am of the impression that a "careless driving" ticket is an open ended ticket for the police to make up anything they want. I got a careless driving ticket once because I questioned why I was being stopped and when the officer realized I was not the one breaking the law, (three cars in front of me did) I got a careless driving ticket. I went to court and had it reduced. In NJ there is someting called an "unsafe driving" ticket. It was created for no other reason than for the municipality to collect the fine without having your driving record marked. If you don't want to take the chance of losing in court, I'd ask the prosecuting attorney to have it reduced to that ticket. Joe
  21. Mikeatrpi, The [H]?? What's the [H]? Doubt I'll be bringing anyone. The wife isn't really into the car thing. Maybe I can find someone else to bring Joe
  22. I would guess it's a 2 hour drive for you. Joe
  23. We should also get a track day together. This Sunday I'm going to Pocono for a little HPDE. Anyone hear from Jersey? Where exactly does everyone live? I know where Len and Will are but the NY guy's are kinda vague! Joe
  24. I'm in also. Bear Mtn sounds good to me. Joe
