  1. Man I live in the wrong part of the country. Last dyno session I had was for $450 and all I got out of it was one partial pull because the fuel pump wasn't able to keep up. So I got billed for strapping the car down, a base map that was useless, and one partial pull. Talk about pissed off! Now I'm hesitant on going for another tuning session because I don't want to be ripped off again. Are there any reputable tuning facilities around Northern NJ that will accept an old turbo Datsun with a TEC? Sheesh
  2. I'll be heading down to my summer house for the next two weeks. I'll see if I can break away from the family for a day to help you out since I'll only be about an hour away. One question haunts me. Why are you pulling the motor?? Joe
  3. Dave, Yeah they come apart really easily once the 4 allen screws are removed. There is really nothing inside it but the spring check ball and rubber diaphram. The only advice I can give is to watch ripping the diaphram. Obvious, I know. As for swarf, ya got me! Sounds like maybe the big guy invented it. Tony? Joe
  4. Doubt the wife will go. I'll ask the girlfriend.
  5. Clive, Where is the car now? Next time your working on the car I'd like to come help if I'm free. Joe
  6. Looks good, Dave. Any directions from, say, the PIP?
  7. Sounds good to me. Just means that I have to come back from vacation a day early. I'd assume we make it an "everyman for himself" and just bring what you'd like to consume. Hell if we find a shady spot to bulls**t I might rip out the wax! Joe
  8. I'm taking the yellow turbo car. I've been working on all the little crap so I don't have any issues driving it that far. I really want it to make it to this convention under it's own power. No more trailering. I'm still trying to get the TEC fine tuned, I have a leaking front seal on the diff, and a questionable connection inside the headlight stalk for the parking lights.Once those are addressed I think I'll be good to go. Hopefully
  9. I just got confirmation for my timeshare which just so happens to have a location next door to the convention hotel. My reservations are from Sunday to Sunday so I'm going to try to leave Friday night or Saturday very early. Joe
  10. Hi Scottie, I looked at the alkycontrol.com website and was wondering what kit you used? The L6 guy here is ready to see the majic in the alcohol bottle. Sorry to hijack the thread. PM me if you feel it necessary. Joe
  11. 07675 If we decide on a different location, I'll be taking the yellow Z unless weather is questionable, then I'll be taking the G35. Joe
  12. Do you have access to a compressor? If so you can use it to figure out where the compression is going. You have to rig something to connect the air supply hose to the spark plug hole on the bad cylinder. The, with that cylinder at TDC of the compression stroke, introduce compressed air into the cylinder. You will be able to hear the air entering the crankcase through the valve cover breather if you have a ring, piston ring land, or head gasket problem, entering the intake manifold from the throttlebody if you have a burned intake valve, or entering the exhaust manifold from the turbo downpipe if you have a burned exhaust valve.
  13. Well I can't compete with paintball or the "field" that Airjockey has for a back yard but I can support about 10 cars and I do have a decent sized garage and back yard/deck to hang out an shoot the s**t. Of course barbacue and fridge in the garage as well. I think I'm pretty centrally located between everyone on this thread but I'll go anywhere that is decided. Joe
  14. Okay I'll jump in. Lets start from scratch. Has the car ever run cool (normal operating temperature) on the highway with the V8? If it did, what changed? If not, what are you using for induction and ignition? What RPM is the engine turning at highway speed? Have you tried the airdam to rad support tray? Not the oem one that goes under the car, but a tray that goes from the top of the airdam to the top of the lower rad support? Just doing this helped my car on the track with it's cooling issues. Joe
  15. Thanks for the photo's. I did get an early sending unit and all is well. I did replace the way it is wired by soldering a connector like what is on the 75 sending unit, to the 2 studs that are on the early sending unit. Works great! Joe
  16. 120psi? And you don't have 30 year old hoses leaking everywhere? Adjust the fuel pressure regulator down to 40 lbs with the vacuum hose off and plugged. Reconnect the vacuum hose and let us know what the reading is.
  17. I'd start by verifying fuel pressure while the car is building boost. Your going to have to have a remote fuel pressure guage. I use one attached to a schrader valve I have on a custom fuel rail. The guage has a lengh of high pressure hose between the guage and fitting for the schradr valve. I duct tape the gauge to the windshield and take the car fr a ride, build boost and see where the pressure goes. Also, you didn't confirm if the fuel pressure regulator is adjustable. If it is, can you adjust the pressure up and down while the car is idling? You said you have seen 60lbs., can you dial back to 40 with the vacuum sensing hose disconnected from the AFR and plugged? Joe
  18. To make the car streetable I'd use a different clutch disk. Joe
  19. I'll be driving down too. Looks like we should start putting together a route. Or for me, when will you guy's up north of NJ be hitting 95? Joe
  20. One other thing you didn't mention was the TPS. Is it coming off the idle circuit when you crack the throttle?
  21. Clive, I'm on vacation for both of those weeks. Spending it with the family at the shore house but I can certainly come back up for a day to hang around with some Z buddies! I can also offer up my garage, driveway, back yard and deck to shoot the s**t and do a little BBQing. I'll PM you my contact info. Joe
  22. I see a few things here. Braap is addressing the clutch which will definitely need to be addressed. What I am getting from this is a poor electrical connection somewhere which could also be the cause of the car shutting down. Car shuts down, starter doesn't turn motor, jumping doesn't turn motor, different battery doesn't turn motor. Do you have decent battery cables? I don't have a Megasquirt but I do have an aftermarket engine management system and with mine proper grounds and voltage is a must. Also, where in NJ? There area few of us here that might be able to help you out if we knew what part of NJ you were from. Joe
  23. A Shiro in the JY??? Did you happen to see if the CV axles were still there? The Shiro had a VLSD R200 and the CV axles are very rare. Joe
