    Q45 Vlsd!

The Q45 R200 VLSD unit does fit in a long nose R200, I've done it. You will need to use the matched set of gears from the long nose because the 3.54's between the long and short diffs have different gear counts. Just swap the ring gear from the open diff to the VLSD and drop it in. You will still need to make custom axles because you still need to use the 6 bolt inner axles. Anyone have a lead on 88 300zx SS CV axles?? Joe

    Q45 Vlsd!

Terry, Why not just swap the VLSD unit into your long nose and save on the mounting of the short nose and driveshaft re-do? Joe
  3. Okay Will, I'm back from vacation. What do you still need? I'm sure I have whatever your looking for in the attic. Joe

    Car Sex

    Uh......is that an Enzo????
  5. Will, I have an old Palm that you can use if you need one. I'd use the stock injectors to start. You can always upgrade the injectors later. Use the money to build the MS! Joe
  6. Coronado! That's what is says in the sand on the beach!
  7. Anyone know if a NA Z32 halfshaft is the same diameter as a turbo Z31 halfshaft?! Joe
  8. I know the Q45 axles are bigger not allowing you to marry a turbo Z31 halfshaft with a Q45 inner CV. I've been searching for a year to find the correct CV race to slide onto the turbo z31 shaft that accepts the larger Q45 ball bearings with no luck. Joe
  9. Hi Joel, Can you snap a picture of the Z32 halfshaft? Do you think there is a cost effective way to marry that input shaft with a Z31 or 280zxt cv for installation in a first gen car? Joe
  10. I see a lot of guy's have made their own rotisserie and was wondering what you have done with it when you are finished with your project. The reason I ask is I have agreed to do a restore of a Black Pearl for someone that works with me and since starting I have noticed I am not as young as I thought. Specifically my back, ouch! So does anyone have a rotisserie that I could borrow for say 6 months? A long shot I know but doesn't hurt to ask Joe
  11. If you decide to go the piecemeal route it won't take you very long before you realize you should have just went to a Z specific vendor. Ross at Modern M has already gone through all of the trouble of matching parts that work on a Z. His stuff just plain works. I also started out thinking I was going to save a few pennies by "shopping around" but in the end I went to Ross and am very glad I did. He helped be sort out my needs and eveeything went together right the first time. I am using 280 strut tubes on my 240Zt for no other reason than I had them laying around. I shortened them, installed a set of Tokico's, and adjusted everything in no time at all. I know this sounds like a commercial for Modern Motorsports but I had to throw kudo's where it's deserved. Joe
  12. my guess is that the brakes are too tight on the pass side. Joe
  13. Rice Rocket?! That's mine with a twist on the spelling. RYS RKT Joe
  14. I wish I had an RB! I just meant I had a question Joe
  15. John, Do you have a preferred control arm angle? I do know they should drop down at the wheel end but at what amount I'm not sure. Thanks! Joe
  16. John, When you take a ride height measurement, where are you taking the measurement from? 7 3/4" sounds high but I can't argue with success! Joe
  17. I have one. Where ya been man? Joe
  18. Where'd ya get that?? Gonna need more info like what did it cost!! Joe
  19. Yours doesn't sound like it's cam timed wrong. Spin the crank one revolution and the crank key will be pointing up and the valves will now be pointing up. The cam rotates 180 degrees for every revolution of the crank. I think you only have the ignition 180 degrees out. Once you have the cam lobes "up" and the crank at TDC, take the distributor cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing just before the tower that you have the number 1 plug wire on. Right now I'm bettin you have it pointing to number 6. Joe
  20. I think he was speaking about the tilt of the motor from vertical, not the direction of rotation.
  21. Yes! I've been trying to find someone to come up with an adapter plate. I believe the 350Z 6 speed uses the same mounting points as the Z32 and I just happen to have one of those that is waiting to go behind a L6. Joe

  23. Thanks Terry, that's the thread I was looking for! After thinking about it some more, I finally see how spring rate does NOT figure into how much to section the tube. I was making it more difficult than it has to be. I guess all I did was make sure the spring collar was in the right spot. Joe
  24. I will just take a guess with one set of strut tubes I have but my thinking is if I cut the strut tube to fit the MR2 insert, when I adjust the spring perch to achieve proper ride height theoretically I could be at full compression or full extention of the insert. I agree that it is unlikely. I was just trying to mathmatically "guess" to take most of the error out of the equation. I also agree that most cars will have different corner weights on each corner. What I was looking for is an average. I seem to remember 540ish for front corner weights on a Series 1 240. Am I in the ballpark? By the way, this is how I did it on the 280 strut tubes that I put in the rear of the 240 and it worked out well. I did the rear a few months ago and for the life of me I can't find the paper that I wrote the corner weights on which included the front weights. Joe
