I measured my z at the same scale as Mike, and i got 2580 with me standing on the scale (i weigh about 120lbs). My car is also a 77, no bumpers or supports, no ac, aluminum swasticas, and very little gas. 280z's can be light too!

s30 and s130's use the same headlights...

the cars or the owners? I guess both, huh? Anyway, today was my car's time of the month. I guess I deserve this treatment, because I drove the car about 700miles this weekend half way across texas. I ended up with a pinhole leak in my radiator from some F'ing 18wheeler and a dead battery (3 successful push starts in one day, add about 4 failed attempts) from the 80watt foglights I ran, for the non-lit roads in central texas. -end rant- but all in all I still like my z and I drive it everyday. In fact i've been driving it everyday for about 2 years all year round. no complaints here! even when it does get into girl mode on me. -Oliver

You may want to check on some of the VW air cooled/ Porsche 914 forums, because alot of those guys are running spacers that convert a 4 lug to 5 lug, using one of the original stud location, just a longer bolt in place of it, with 4 studs attached to the spacer around the bolt circle...

yeah that is helpful but this website that i'm thinking about had pictures of the tailshafts of the early 75-80 and 81-83, to help you tell the differences at the junkyard.

A while ago i found a transmission website with a really good write up on the differences between the early and late datsun 5 speeds. it included pictures and specifically a picture of the difference between the tails of the transmissions. any one know what I'm talking about? I really should start putting these websites in my favorites...

I will answer this only because this has not been discussed as much as the topic of the diesel crank, but you should really do a search. The diesel block is found in datsun diesel Maxima 1982 and 1983 (maybe 1981?). It has a quarter inch higher deck height than the normal gasoline L-series blocks. this allows for a longer rod in conjunction with the wider stroke. The other guy on this board is DAW, who converted a diesel short block for use with gasoline. -Oliver

They sell the chassis "less engine and transaxle" hmmm... LS1/porsche transaxle anyone? EDIT: it appears to be transverse mounted.... so LS1 would be a tough fit...

from what i have read all (later) automatic z's came with the vertical tranny mount bolts, and all (later) manual z's came with the fore/aft ones. The fore/aft setup seems stronger, because the stress is not being put on the threads of two bolts, it is being spread over several points on two bolts. -Oliver
