If you want to get rid of ALL of the film..... Try a little bit of Bon-ami powder and a little water on a paper towel... This stuff will get rid of all of the junk on the windshield... I used it on my '91 SHO and you would swear that there is Rain X on it.... Think I'm crazy? this stuff works.... have a looky on a search Here

Sorry to hear about your son... Hopefully after all is said and done.... your son will return to normal and you will have another Z to work on... Just need a little time and money....usually most of us don't have enough of either... I hope your son has a speedy recovery..

Yes... Are they the inline tube style type? If so.... they are horrible... They robbed a buttload of power from my Z when I had it put in.... When the car is running again.... that will be the first trip I take...... to the muffler shop to have it taken OUT!

79 was the first year of the ZX.

I am running an older E6. It requires an optical or Hall effect signal.. I know the newer ones don't require it... I'm not sure when they changed the option.. My setup might be useful for people running other systems or older Haltech systems.

I am using a Haltech E6 system... There are some newer versions of it at http://www.haltech.com.au/ . There are other companies that produce aftermarket FI systems.... You just have to find one that suits your needs. Haltech used to have an office in Texas, but I believe they closed it....

jt240z... as far as the waste spark setup.... that's probably true... I don't have any experience with that type of setup. I was responding to Ivan280zt's post.... (I overlooked the waste spark comment.) I tried a part that MSD sold that converted the magnetic signal to a optical signal but it did not work during low rpms (makes it kinda hard to start the car ) The Haltech E6 can only use an optical or Hall effect signal...not the magnetic one...If you just need to change to an optical triggering setup the Crane Cam part is Here . Pretty simple to put in. Now I just have to get it phased correctly. It wasn't very expensive considering using a crank triggered unit or a direct fire system. I'll try to get some pics and more info on my particular distributor asap.

no no no... You can gut your existing distributor.... lock the mechanical advance and remove the vacuum advance... Crane Cams sells a retrofit now what will fit in the Z's dist. Thats what I am running.

Good to hear the haltech is running.... Actually you can retrofit the existing distributor.... thats what I did.. It now has an optical trigger. Hopefully will running soon..... as soon as I get time to get the small stuff back together

I'd check the timing first...Doesn't sound like a fuel problem. I altered the AFM only after doing quite a few mods to the car...

What is the abbreviation...??? STUFU ? How old was this guy?.... Were his parents stupid enough to buy a HP car like that for an inexperienced driver... or was he just an idiot? Hope he makes it through this with and it knocked some sense into him.

Was the throttle fully open? I had that happen a few times in the past.... Never damaged one though.

Not exactly a hybrid story but I laughed about it... I was driving my mothers '99 Infinity with the VQ30DE engine inside, tonight to go to my brother's house.. (My SHO is getting a transmission bearing put in it)... anyway.... I got behind a 1995ish black prelude with wide rims, a huge fart pipe, and an emblem stating "siR" <shivering> I pulled along side of him because I needed to get in front of him to make a left turn at the next light. I eased onto the gas after it turned green, and he notices that I am trying to get in front of him.....so he punches it.... so I slam on the gas.... Needless to say.... he got his ego hurt when a mild mannered Infinity passed him in a hurry. but I'm sure he told his passenger that his car is not running right or something Too bad the Z is not on the road.... he would have known a real spanking

I used to own a ZX... and I didn't like it as well as the old Z's that I have had...and still have.. but your car is very nicely put together.. Very nice. Makes me second guess my original thoughts

umm.. some of it.. but you will have to retain whatever is needed for the stock setup. You can still make it look better than stock... especially if you go with a custom fuel rail.
